I stand by my earlier statement when I said the class was worthless and it seems the game has proven me right. However it would be nice to see what other people think about it.
So how is everybody enjoying their Vanguard class?

It's a hell of a lot of fun. Charge + heavy shotgun = ownage. That's really all there is to say on the matter.

I played it, its not as cheap as the Sentinel class but I get a lot less cocky playing vanguard funny enough.

I loved it. Did Hardcore playthrough and it was challenging and fun. Assault Shotgun + Heavy Charge rocks

How was Hardcore btw? I'm playing it on Insanity.

Vanguard doesn't have as many IWIN buttons against shields as some other setups. It is pretty fun to play however.

OK, I had to reload quite a lot at some places, but I expected it to be a lot worse.
I am now playing a Soldier on Insanity and it is a lot easier than Vanguard on Hardcore so far.

Yea on the lower difficulties it's probably kinda fun to play. It's just I warned people about playing on Insanity and I can see alot of people getting stuck and screwed with this class.

It took me awhile to figure out how to do Charge. The first part where you are on the Cerberus station in the intro, i couldnt get it to work at all and thought that maybe i had to level it up or something.

The Vanguard is more than capable of handling Insanity. I did it on my first playthrough, just keep Barrier up or the Geth coop shield, or Fortification. Any of those is more than enough. You don't need offensive abilities from your squad mates, you are offense personified.

Well that's interesting. So you need one of the bonus talents then it allows you to rush in?

So you recommend f.e. Barrier over f.e. Warp Ammo? How do you deal with shielded/barriered enemies?

Did vanguard in ME1, I'll prolly do vanguard on my next run thru ME2. Currently an engineer.

No need for warp ammo, if you really want it you can get a squad member to supply it. The shotgun is most effective against shields/barriers anyway, it just isn't great against armor. Another option is the Collector AR, as it rips through all shields/barriers/armor with ease, but isn't great against health. So soften them up, hit x to switch to the shotty and charge in where needed. I haven't found much use for it though. You can get Jacob's loyalty mission extremely early, so barrier is right there. Not much need for anything else. No need to max barrier, 1-2 points is enough, you just need a little extra insurance that if the going gets tough you have to endurance to find cover.
Vanguard is high risk, high reward. Yes a Soldier can attack everything from afar and not have to worry about much, but that's gears of war all over again, with bullet time. Very boring to me. I prefer to be up close and personal. I prefer warriors/rogues to rangers/mages for instance. It's a playstyle choice.

I've been really enjoying my Vanguard, especially after I got the handle of when and when not to use Charge.

I like Charge, including when your health is low and you can charge over to someplace where you can take cover and recover before attacking again.
I miss the absence of Warp, Throw, and Lift, though.

I havent really gotten use to the new game mechanics but so far, Ive hardly used Charge. I probably just suck but its never been effective so far. It leaves me out in the open and doesn't do as much damage as I would hope. Shockwave, if you aim it right is sometimes really effective, but often time then not, enemies simply don't line up the way I need.
I dont think these are faults though, probably more the Vanguard not fiting my playstyle anymore. Ill stick with it since Im already 6 hours in, but definitely going to switch to something else on future playthroughs.

Playing on Veteran right now (I plan on doing a couple more playthroughs with this Shep on higher difficulties) and I'm having fun. Just gotta learn when and how to use Charge, and just gotta decide on what additional skill (possibly barrier, based on suggestions and the fact that I did Jacob's quest earlier). So far, not dissappointed.

I'm loving mine. I'm having problems getting pull to hit anything but covers but charge and shockwave are both tons of fun.

It's pretty fun, once you get Barrier it become a lot better since you got more option open.

At first, didn't like it until I figured out a few things. First, I was an idiot and didn't think about trying to curve pull over or around cover. Guess I was too used to ME1 to even think about it. Learned when the best times to use Charge are (I use it when there's only 1 or 2 enemies left, or when someone's too close to you, like a charging krogan). Finally, picked up the AR, so I had something for longer ranges (yes, heavy pistol or sniper rifle could've done that job, but I like having something that I didn't need to switch to if someone got up close).
What's weird is I started out using shockwave a lot, but then didn't as much. It's just not that useful once enemies start having shields more often

vanguard is great fun, challenging and awesome to watch. reave imo is the way to go. against a bunch of people, i tended to use smg and squad abilities to take down shields, then if thers no armour charge in on that guy, he goes ballooning off so forget about him, use the shotgun on someone else nearby, if they have shields doesnt matter, im so close that it takes 1 or 2 shots at the most to get through, and once its through the inferno ammo causes them to panic/cc(if they've got armour you definitely need to scedaddle at this point), at this stage its either finish him off, duck behind cover, or charge off after the guy you charged at in the first plae, who should be nicely seperated from the others.

Vanguard is fine on Insanity. I charge all the time. Just make sure you don't have low FPS
You deal with shields by throwing an elbow and then 1 shotting them with the krogan shotgun. Or SMG
I prefer Barrier over Reave
