I'm so confused. Why is someone who claims to be a straight male so sad about not being able to romance Dorian?

My only guess is that it feels less weird for them if they can still romance them with an Inquisitor of the opposite gender at least so the relationship itself is straight? I do know someone kind of like this who can romance m/m and m/f couples but not f/f cause its just too weird for them and I assume its because there's no male character in the relationship they can connect with but that's just guess work on my part. As is this but eh, only thing I can come up with.

I can understand that.  My preferred choice is m/m.  I have no problems with f/f.  I can do f/m (female PC/male LI), but it's not my favorite.  I really, really can't get into m/f (male PC/female LI).  Like, at all.

We're already discussed this long ago so you know I'm the exact same way! I've sadly never completed a f/m playthrough, but at least I've tried them! I returned to my Cadash/Blackwall playthrough and enjoyed it for awhile but just got so bored. And... created yet another male Lavellan. Because I'm weak. And Creators bless the Equal Opportunity Solas modder.

I can and have done f/f and enjoyed it, but for some reason, with ME, I could never get into FemShep. Perhaps because Shep is such a defined character, and I felt like I had "my" Shep and knew his story. But then Hawke is also a defined character, and I thoroughly enjoyed female Hawke x Isabela, even though I played male Hawke before that.

And m/f? Eh, forget it.

Yet somehow I still don't get being a straight guy and feeling disappointed you can't romance Dorian with a straight woman. I guess my brain does not work that way.

While I have tried all that at least once I have noticed that m/m is one of the last ones I tend to do for me personally, f/m and f/f tend to first followed by m/f and eventually m/m though in my particular case I'm not really sure it has anything do with feeling weird about it and more of so far the people I could romance in m/m are either characters I don't really see that way (i.e. Dorian is always my PCs best friend so it feels odd attempting to romance him) or I can romance with a female character instead and when given the choice I'll almost always play female a majority of the time. So in a kind of way I do kind of get that line of thinking.

Ahhh that's it, that's it, I think!! I prefer to play male, so I'll always take that option first. Then sometimes I really like a female character (like Isabela), so I'll play a female to romance her. (I would've played female to romance Cassandra but alas). Then finally in DAI there were like so many guys I wanted to romance but couldn't with a guy, and I couldn't bring myself to play a female elf or human, so... I played a dwarf female to romance smexy bear boy Blackwall. It was okay but I couldn't bring myself to finish the playthrough... same with Alistair (I tried with a female Aeducan).

Then no matter how much I like a straight female like Cass or Morrigan, I just... I just cannot. It's too hard and not fun at all.

I guess this is getting away from ME though. The romance aspect in ME never seemed as important in DA, maybe because I just love the story of ME so much so I'm not so dependent on romance to make me like the game.

I don't get it either. It sounds as if he's against his character being gay, whether it's m/m or f/f, but doesn't have an issue being with a male as long as he's playing a female. I mean, I could understand if he simply didn't want to be a guy with a guy because he's straight irl and finds it unrelatable, but to just be vehemently against having a gay PC regardless of genders involved...

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Big deal, ME had plenty of non romance character and they work just fine if not better than the designated romance characters.

If you ask me Andromeda should either go back to ME1 style where romance was just a little side thingy or else rework the entire mechanic so that romances are now properly intergrated in the narrative. Regardless, I think less romances options would be good to.

Well Javik is in daveliam's list and Shepard doesn't look happy afterwards.. If he is in the list then Aria should be as well.

Shep actually has sex with Javik, though. With Aria, it's just a random kiss. Nothing romantic, or even really sexual about it. Just happens.

Wrex and Grunt are easily two of the greatest characters in the franchise.

And Mordin.  Love that guy.  Those three and Samara (who's not really a romance anyway since you can't get the romance achievement with her) are probably 4 out of my 5 favorite squad members.  So I don't think a lack of romance is a hindrance on a character.

Say a happily married couple, a grotesque, a celibate monk, or a eunuch? The character idea gets shredded?

You can't romance Wrex, Grunt, Mordin, EDI, Joker, and others.

There is nothing romantic with Javik. The whole thing just happens and Shepard looks quite remorseful. I would put both Aria and Javik to quasi-romanceable list because something can happen with them. But it depends how quasi-romanceable is defined. Personally I would say James is quasi-romanceable because you can flirt with him quite a lot and then you can end up in bed with him even though he isn't happy about it. I would also put Samara on that list because there is something going on with Shepard and Samara. I can't comment on Morinth because I haven't seen it. But I wouldn't put Javik on that list because there isn't anything romantic between him and Shepard. I'm not sure about the motives behind Aria's kiss. If she's interested in Shepard then she probably wouldn't show her feelings. So she could belong to quasi-romanceable list or not. I'm not sure. I think she also said something after the kiss that made me think that she might consider Shepard also something more.

Well, to be fair, I didn't include Aria or Nyreen because they are only temporary squad members in one DLC questline.  I was really only counting full-game squad members.  I also didn't include Jenkins, Amanda Kenson, or Maya Brooks, either.  I counted Kasumi, Zaeed, and Javik because, while DLC, they are full-game squad members.  And I included Javik as "quasi-romanceable" because there is 'romance' content related to him (i.e., he sleeps with Shep).

Well. That settles the whole thing then. I had forgotten Amanda Kenson totally. My memories of that DLC is my Shep running around alone. I remember Jenkins but I had forgotten that Brooks could be in your squad. Really? I have no memories of that.

How about a supremely gorgeous, sexually-active crew member who wants absolutely nothing to do with the PC?

That would infuriate a lot of players. I would love to see it.

It wouldn't be the first time. At all.

No seriously, they're everywhere.

What you mean is a companion, and even then its been done (Grunt, Wrex, Legion, Zaeed, Kasumi, Vega, Justice-not-Anders-Version Nathaniel, Shale, ETC ETC ETC). They were not romanceable.

Now, I know what you mean when say this, I'm just having a little fun here.

I like to think this scene exists because there were so many people who wanted to romance Wrex.
