Before heading to Redcliff castle, is it possible to bring just Dorian? I ask because I want to know if there is a different cut scene if the inquisitor looks like they are by themselves or does the game need 2 party members to continue?

I tried just bringing Dorian as a test. I think Cassandra and Varric will just wordlessly show up on their own and the rest of the mission will play normally.

It's not wise to bring just 1 character such as Dorian...what if he faints in combat? ![]()

You can limit the number of companions before you go on a quest. The problem is that the game spawns additional characters in some cut scenes. I was able to go on a questwithout ant companions. It is almost suicide, if you encounter baddies. Caveat: I have not tried this with the Redcliff and Hushed Whispers.

In the early days I had a bug on Champions of the Just that caused my companions to disappear after the Fade sequence, so I was left to do the rest on my own. I had mostly stuck to the main quest up to that point, so low level, a mage and with only 8 healing potion slots. Needless to say, I had a few problems and ended up going back to an earlier save so I could get my experience up and swapped to Hushed Whispers until the bug got fixed.
I imagine Hushed Whispers would be difficult with just the two of you but not impossible. However, I suppose they have to include companions even if you didn't because of the end sequence; who holds off the advancing demons while Dorian is activating the amulet?
