There is no reason that every race from the original trilogy should not return. Fans have come to love (or hate) many of them. Replacing them with new races would be a bad move, imo. I'm all for new races, but don't want them over the old races. Especially when we haven't even seen all of the old races yet. We haven't seen but 2 drell and none of them female. We haven't seen any female batarians as of yet either and only 2 female turians. Before the series starts thowing any dozens of new races, the older ones should get more time to shine.

I mean it's not like many of them got much love, because the original series spent way too much time with humanity. Which looks like will happen again in this game. That honestly worries me, because humanity was probably my least favorite race in the trilogy. I'm okay with the protagonist in ME:A being human, but I do not want the game to be about how awesome humans are......again. Had 3 games already that did this. I want to see more of the other races. Drell, Batarians, Hanhar, Salarians, Turians etc.

What's the point of a new galaxy, new story and new characters if you are going to bring the old ones back?

What's the point of a new galaxy, new story and new characters if you are going to bring the old ones back?

Before I get to the answer I've given this question about three times or so, let me say that no one's talking about bringing any characters back(at least not anymore, those threads all died).

With that out of the way; contrast. Mass Effect especially offers a reason they'd want to do this; life in the Milky Way evolves under the control of the Catalyst and the cycles. They've subconsciously shaped the outlook of every species in the galaxy.

Life in Andromeda has, presumably, evolved without interference from the Reapers. We want to see the contrast between the old and the new, and we want to see the contrast between life evolving under artificial parameters vs life evolving uninhibited.

Aside from that, options. Bringing back all or most of the old races along side all the new ones they want to introduce gives options for more character backgrounds, more potential interactions and conflicts, and things like that.

Also, under the ARK theory, it just makes sense. This one isn't confirmed yet, but speculation wise it's a strong reason. If the purpose of the mission is escape and establishing a new home to preserve galactic civilization as we know it, then you bring all the pieces that make up that civilization, or at least as many as you can.

Also makes sense that you'd bring as diverse a group of species as possible as you won't be able to be sure what kind of terrain you're going to find and whether or not the planets will be habitable by everyone. If we found nothing but planets with dextro based life, for instance, and didn't bring any turians or quarians, we'd be out of luck. If we did bring them, then at least that part of civilization has a chance to survive. If we found a lot of death worlds, krogan and vorcha could thrive on them. If we found high gravity worlds, elcor and volus could colonize them. If we found dry, arid planets, we drop off the drell.

Point being, bring a lot of species adapted for different environments and you maximize your chances instead of putting all the eggs in one basket.

So yeah, plenty of reasons. Simplest one being, people like the established species. Oh, and the new galaxy is justified thusly; dodging having to deal with the endings to ME3.

Seems Krogans are pretty much a lock with all the Drack talk.  I hope this Krogan is your bff or Garrus this time around.

Would love to see the overlooked races from the trilogy play a bigger role this time: Drells and Batarians.

I could do without seeing additional Turians.  imo they were very similar to humans.

My top choices of old races to see again: Rachni, Hanar, and Elcor. I don't care if we have to handwave the Rachni back into the narrative (I mean the Krogan are apparently getting a free pass), I would like to see some non human 'alien' aliens get the spotlight, not treated as a glorified background prop.

I would say that the new Andromeda species could fill that niche, but in my experience BioWare, as a whole, isn't very good at adding new 'alien' elements to existing franchises. I say go with the existing species they have for that role than hoping that they can buck tradition and create new races from scratch.

I expect Asari, Turian, and Krogan to return, considering they're probably the most popular races. That being said, I would love a female Turian squadmate; Nyreen was a wasted opportunity and I would love to see that rectified.

Salarians were a major council race, so I could see them returning as well. Quarians too, if only for their popularity. Though, I have to wonder how they'll handle them if they do. If the Ark theory is what we're going off of (and it feels like a viable theory) then I imagine the Quarians will still need their suits. I don't think BioWare wants a repeat of the backlash when Tali was revealed to be a purple human with three fingers. Having the Geth and Drell return would make me immensley happy as well. I imagine if we're going to have the majority of old races return, the Ark project would have to be less of a single ship and more of a Migrant Fleet similar to that of the Quarian's Flotilla.

I just hope at least one of the new races we interact with is very alien. I love the races we have so far, but many of them are too humanoid. I understand for some races it's essential for combat purposes, but others I hope are really out there and imaginative in design.

I might be in the minority... But the Turians and Krogans are the races I care about the least. Not to say, that I didn't miss a Krogan squadmate in ME3...

I wouldn't miss either of them. I wouldn't even mind if we didn't have the others as squadmate either to be honest. (I did like the Quarians though) I'd like a whole new Squad of new f®aces. It's not going to happen though. Ah well.

My theory is that the ME3 multiplayer characters were test subjects for future ME squaddies.

They'll include popular ME3 multi characters into new games.

A cabal based squaddie would be pretty badAZZ.

In terms of the races we encountered in the trilogy, the salarians hands down were the most alien humanoids

Krogan and salarians are actually confirmed. Asari and turians will without a doubt be in the game,

I fully expect ALL of the original species to be in ME:A, apart from maybe the Geth - but I would really love to see them return (upgraded with Reaper code?).

It just wouldn't feel like ME if we didn't have a hub filled with volus, elcor, hanar etc

I'd be sad to see the Quarians not return but it is to be expected. Couldn't care less about the Rachni ot Geth as I am sure sentient machines exist in Andromeda. I am more happy that the Turians are returning and the Krogan as they bring back a sense of old comfort from the original trilogy so it wouldn't feel that far away from the series.

I want a kro-bro from the get-go XD  We've always had grumpy krogans that we had to win over, I'd like to see a more approachable krogan on the squad this time.

I hope they can keep relationships open to interpretation i.e. professional relationships and close-kin relationships.

I expect the main 4 back Turian,asari,salarian,human

The comic relif races volus, elcor might be since you need some joke races.

Batarians not sure if they will be in it since The Alliance and them have beef and i do not see them being able to share a colony or resources.

Yahg no way.

Yes, Kro-Bro is genius.

Batarians would be perf for this game given the outlaw wild west theme.  The batarians for the most part were pretty gangster.

This game is largely rooted in space exploration.  Batarian home world got raped.  They could be in competition with humans for new planets.  I can't see humans being the only race to have explorations.

I'd like to see more emphasis on the less institutionalized races like Drells.  Voyages are a dangerous game.  It'd make more sense for chracters with nothing to lose and everything to gain to largely be involved.  Maybe Geth can come back since they don't have an official home world.

Very surprised to see Salarians make a return.  They didn't strike me as being popular.

If we have a Sal squaddie, perhaps he can be our alien world surveyor to keep up with their scientists theme.  Make him a sniper this time around, so he'll always be measuring something.

I also thought about a race that's genetically modified into existence.  If they could make Grunt from a test tube and Miranda from unnatural means, technology could be developed well enough to reverse bioengineer Javik to produce Protheans

After Blasto's appearance in ME3 I found Hanar to be cool in the story, if not for comic relief they can have a roll as ambassadors. There should also be Volus in Andromeda, especially since we are building colonies in a new galaxy and the volus' financial expertise would be useful. Krogan, Salarian, Asari, Quarians and Turians of course should also be in Andromeda. I think it would be cool if Batarians, Vorcha, and Varren found their way to Andromeda. I think it would be good to see familiar enemies that terrorize the human colonies. I think it would be interesting to see Geth but only as servants/workers, as they were before the Geth uprising. It would also be amusing if Pyjacks made it to Andromeda.

The only races I wouldn't miss in Andromeda are the Elcor, Rachni, and Protheans.

They can't get rid of the salarians. They're one of the main groups and can't even be killed off save for picking refuse. It'd be like getting rid of the asari or the turians.

I only dislike them because of the way Bioware deals with them it is a little too much for me.
Hopefully they calm down with their Asari stuff in MEA. I liked Liara into they were shoving her down my throat.

It certainly would've been nice if they were more than just a fanservice race of magical space lesbians.

The only good that came out their race in the trilogy were Vasir and Morinth.
