Hi folks!

Just a simple plain question: I just finished my first run with a Qunari mage, and waiting to be able to buy the DLCs ( :)) I'm now playing a 2H Warrior. I want to travel with Cassandra and Vivienne, but I don't know which ranged rogue to use.... what do you suggest?

Oh, maybe it was No-spoiler... please move this thread, if this is the case... sorry.

Ya, Sera is badass. A tier3 Thousand Cuts with the right gear can one shot a dragon on hard.

You'll need her for this. Probably.

Tempest is powerful, especially the Electricity Flask. You can have her use it then switch to a different character. She will basic attack with a bow and fire about 50 shots within an 8 second timeframe. Multiply by three if you give her the Warden bow found in the Temple of Mythal. Fire Flask lets her spam attacks. Frost Flask will defend her against mobs.

Since Varric is about as exciting as paint drying, I suggest Sera.

Serious? I didn't take him along in my first run, but I remember him being quite... funny in DA2..

Varric boring? Not in the least, especially when paired with Cassandra.

I can't be bothered to keep crafting so that Bianca stays up to date, usually.

Sera since she's a power house when she uses thousand cuts...

  I cannot be impartial, I am afraid ( imgur username BerenAndCassie ) when it comes to their interaction.  He actually ticks me off with the way he  rebuffs her attempts at being friendly.  Sera, at least, acknowledges Cassie's glorious battle awesomeness.

Varric is apparently one of the few people who kind of gets along with Vivienne. Sera is not. Although, yes, he does rebuff or needle Cassandra at times, which I was not overly impressed with either.

My #1 rogue is Cole by several light years, but talk about people Vivienne does not get along with ... (Also, giving him a bow feels OOC.)

Varric and Cassandra are like siblings, which is why I love them. I mean all the conversations about his books after getting Swords and Shields are classic.

I think most people find him boring because he does get a bit more serious. It fits though. A big hole to a place he might have seen once. Even more demons than Kirkwall. Corypheus being back, and possibly losing his best friend. It's enough to sober anyone. But he's still the student of human nature, and his observations are still spot on. Even if he loves poking Cassandra with a stick. :)

Bianca in my game does 200 dps thanks to Descent.
On topic: Varric is more useful to me. I've tried Sera on a couple of playthroughs, and I really don't find her all that useful. But to each their own.

I didn't actually find Varric likeable or funny in DA2, but I do in DAI. Plus, I prefer his banter with Cassandra and Vivienne to Sera's, so my vote definitely goes to Varric.

Should take Sera with Blackwall. They have some really great banter.

Should take Sera with Blackwall. They have some really great banter.

Banter-wise, there are definitely "intended" combinations.

If Blackwall is your tank, Sera. They develop sort of a "stepfather/big brother - stepdaughter/younger sister" relationship, however one may perceive the age difference. Sera and Vivienne absolutely resent one another as you may imagine, but in a very hilarious way mostly.

If Cassandra is your tank, Varric. It's quite entertaining how he keeps pushing her buttons; and also relating to past events from time to time. As others have stated though, since Varric does not become your sidekick like DA2, he does indeed lose part of his charm in a way. However, Varric even manages to win over Vivienne because of his charms and way with words, which does have its very own appeal.

Sera is a beast with Tempest, both offensively and defensively (Lightning Flask makes her also my team's medic); but Varric with Opportunity Knocks has access to one of the most powerful Passive Skills in the game. Both of their Focus skills deal insane damage.

I actually like Varric in Inquisition. He still has humor but he is not pushed as Quizzy's BFF like he was Hawke's, they don't spend as much time together and they are in a organization where I feel like a bit of professional restraint seems fitting. It's nice with a different angle to his character, makes you appreciate him more when you replay 2.

I always enjoyed varric far more than Sera. varric is obviously the easier to like companion but mainly because Sera doesn't hardly ever say anything interesting or sensible for that matter, while Varric offers insight on his past, opinions & random facts that shape his image well. Sera is typically going to respond to situations with the same childish wit often times inappropriate for the matter at hand. So for me, Varric is the winner!

Aaaaaall right guys, what a lot of suggestions! ;) My choice for the tank is Cassandra, but this is romance-wise. I romanced Josie in the first run, so I'll try to bring Cassie along as to raise her approval. In the first run I never used Sera, and killed all dragons with no issue at all, except at lower levels. Cassie and Varric do seem to tag along in more "working as intended" way. Furthermore (please don't kill me) I want to try 2H Champion. I know it sounds counterintuitive, but I like this kind of challenges! ;) This is the other reason I don't bring Blackwall with me. Just one more question: Is there a way to give Blackwall leadership over the wardens?

To the Blackwall question: No, there isn't. I won't say why, since I don't know how much you know about him.

Oh I don't know him so much, I never adventured a lot with him, even though I completed his personal quest.
