I believe the hype after seeing it. I will def acquire that spell as quickly as I can. I probably made 7/10 battles so much more difficult on myself by not working this spell to my advantage. It looks to be the perfect offense at large numbers of enemies and doing massive damage. I honestly don't know how I just stayed so content with Winters Grasp or Cone of the Cold.  Thnx both of you!

J-Bo89, The best part is you can equip the single icon bomb spell while you are setting your mage up before starting the game. This is very handy to have when you head into the wilds.

I avoid friendly fire damage simply because  I usually play on easy unless I'm experimenting with new ideas then its casual.  Personally I see no need to make the game ridiculously harder for me since I don't have full use of my right hand. I get flack from my son and Grandson because I don't use hard or nightmare but,to each their own style of game play is fine by me.

Another good spell to have later in the game is "animate dead".. This allows you to raise enemy dead so they will fight on your side. This spell is next to the three icon walking bomb. Comes in handy during the Battle of Demerim. Other spells to have is group heal, fireball, blizzard and tempest.. Serious damage is done when I use these spells so, I place my group on hold ground. If I'm using my normal  three rogues then Morrigan is equipped with those spells.

Oh yes..I forgot the "knock back"  spell.. This protects your mage from attack by relatedly  knocking the enemy down before they can attack your mage. Very handy.

I was wondering, how you manage to use the bomb so often without killing your party in the process.  :D Like I said, I used it few times, mostly for giggles... my AW could take the damage from it pretty easily, but everyone else would get killed and on harder difficulties the damage isn't all that helpful to risk it. In the fight with Uldred, I'd say keep his aggro on your tank, use Wynne to keep the tank alive and simply smack Uldred with everything you have, until he flips over and dies. Give everyone the Litany in one of the quick slots, so they can use it, when he starts his attempt to mind-control the mages.

Vlada47,You could try placing your group in "hold ground" while your mage uses powerful spells like the bomb or tempest unless those spells are weak in the higher settings?

I had to do a lot of battle experimentation in casual to find the best group and battle techniques since I need to use my left hand on the right hand controls.   :o   I'm sure some of my techniques would work in the higher settings.

If my laptop wasn't a antique  I would have went with the PC versions of all three Dragon Age games. I am using a PS3 because the controller is small and fits my needs. I tried my son's Xbox 360 but, the controller was to awkward for my needs due to its sized. I really like the 360.

I was using a lot of AOE spells, but it was always situational. I could use it without much problem on my Arcane Warrior playthrough - he just shrug it of like nothing, while everything else dies around him (Storm of the Century FTW). Problem is - why bother, when you have Blood Wound that paralyze your enemies and has no friendly fire.

Blood Wound is spell of a Blood mage, not Arcane Warrior... don't tell me you've never tried this spec.  :D I've played Arcane Warrior in combination with Spirit Healer, later combined with Battlemage in Awakening. That way, you're the best tank all around (all those defensive buffs and aggro from Miasma), you work like mobile health dispenser and have very good crowd control abilities... you are also immortal 90% of the time.  You just need someone to do good damage per second...

Tidus & Vlada47-

You know I am ashamed to admit, although I haven't done a ton of pursuing or trying to figure it out, I still have not found how to become a Blood Mage. I had a tome that I thought was going to allow me to become one and I tried and it didn't work. Blood Mage shows up in classification screen but is not highlighted and therefore will no let me select it. Is it easily accessible cuz I always wanted Morrigan to have these abilities.

Either make a deal with Desire demon at Redcliffe or wait for Awakening, there you can buy it from some vendor.

Cool, thanks a lot. I guess since I come from such a Christian family and been a Baptist and still am, my faith has never allowed me to deal with demons in any way. I have always just attacked head on. But I will give it a try for sure. I'm sure God will understand It's ONLY Thedas!

To get back to the original topic of this thread, Irving can be saved IF you're quick enough at using the Litany of Adralla when fighting Uldred.  If you're not quick enough, the mages he has imprisoned (including Irving) will become abominations and you'll have no choice but to fight and kill them too.  See http://dragonage.wik...dred (strategy) for details.

springacres,That's why my rogue keeps tossing litany:

Wynne "He's doing something to the mages!"

Tidus: Uses litany and stops Uldred while Leliana and Alistair keeps whacking  away.

I lost this battle twice  and then I tried tossing the litany while the others kept  attacking and haven't lost the battle since.

My characters do the same thing.  Hit Uldred and his allies until Wynne signals, run to affected mage, use litany, lather, rinse, repeat.  And don't forget to zoom the camera way out for an aerial view - that's how you know where to run when he tries creating abominations.

Although I'm not religious in any way, I have problems, making the deal with the desire demon. After all, you have to give her a child, that's a very tough decision to make. I think, I did my first playthrough without the Bloodmage specialisation and buyed the book in Awakening. After that, you can get the spec in a new game. But it's not for the faint at heart. It's basically the Dark curses from Harry Potter  (one is a combination of Crucio and Sectumsempra and one is the Imperius curse - so very dark magic, but fun sometimes and some people just need a good Crucio from time to time  ).
