So, no expansion?

It's kind of weird to end it just on 3 DLC, isn't it? For how well everyone screams Inquisition is doing, that seems... very short. Also, Inquisition had so much room for an expansion pack...

Origins had 7 DLC plus an Expansion, (3 set in the main game and the rest pre or post game or just non canon).

DA2 had only 3 DLC but had more and an expansion pack planned out.

Are they just trying to not be overzealous?

Expansions, I expect would take a lot more time to create then a DLC. These DLC look like they are made to sate the Dragon Age want while they are making the next part.

How fast do you expect an expansion to be made anyway? >.>

They already announced a year ago there would be no awakening style expansion. Though I do tend to agree, while they claim DAI was successful (and it was critically) I'm beginning to wonder if it actually was financially. Nearly a year out, and the follow up title still hasn't been greenlit? That's not very good news considering development is generally year round, with maybe 1-2 month breaks here and there.

It hasn't been given the go ahead yet? Damn...

The good news is that since they have a new setting and protagonist with each title, it won't be as big as a blow if say they canceled ME mid trilogy. But I'd still be disappointed if we don't see another DA game sometime in the future.

The game had a successful launch, at least. I don't think the game didn't find it's audience, but it's possible that EA's execs pulled a Squeenix' "We sold over 3 million copies: this game is an abject failure", or worst: a Konami "Mobile gaming and gambling are more profitable: let's sink these expensive games divisions"

Expansions and DLC can be the same thing these days as DLC is just Downloadable Content and and expansion can be downloaded thus making it Downloadable content.  So this is rather subjective.

But considering that EA mentioned it in not one but two earnings calls and told their shareholders that DAI was part of EA's sucess in the third quarter.

It would make sense for them to wind down for a couple of years, ME:A is going to be the next big thing so it likely needs all hands on deck.

I think the "If there is a future DA game" is just Laidlaw being coy. It hasn't been officially announced yet so he isn't going to confirm it in an interview about something completely different.

Agreed. If this was after DA 2, I might believe they'd cancel, but with everything EA has said about DAI... They aren't going to kill a decent revenue stream like this, especially since there's no way to know how this new IP will be received.

I am a little surprised as well that they are doing fewer DLCs. I guess the trade off is they add lots of little stuff in the first round of major patching?

Pretty sure he also said that the end of this last DLC hints to the future of Dragon Age... so, there's that.

There will be a Dragon Age 4 - and it will be "So terribad horrible the worst in the series that ruined my childhood enjoyment forever arggghhh!"

1)This DLC plus its supposed included new (combat?) gameplay mode + the upcoming patch features (Golden Nug 'NG+', Wardrobe, maybe more?) may practically add up to an 'expansion', even if it shows itself to be a relatively 'smaller' one (while still bigger than any other DLC; like Citadel DLC was).

2)Three DLC was predictable. I would have wanted 4-5 (because where the hell is Sandal?, and I'd have liked a deeper exploration of the Green Fade and Demon stuff but it seems that's a no if the trailer is totally representative?), but 3 was very likely to happen.

As far as we know, there will be a Dragon Age 4. We can hope it'll take longer than DA2 to make (1-2 years), but it'll possibly not take as long as DAI (3-4 years), so I predict around 2017 (since 2016 is Mass Effect), unless NewIP alters that. But yes, at worst case, DAI 'underperforms' (big emphasis on the ''s) and this is the end of Dragon Age as we have generally known it. Ew. For all we know, the eluvians could end up the fast travel ports for a MMORPG. Ew. But we shouldn't assume this at all yet.

For a game that "did so well" I would have expected about 5 story based DLCs, not 3.

Therein lies the problem with everything BioWare does.

Peoples expectations, however unrealistic they usually are.

There were five.  Just two of them were multiplayer.

Probably has to do with how far out post launch they think DLC are viable. Skyrim was blockbuster and they only had two proper DLC and glorified housing mod all with in a year give or take.

And how did you arrive at that arbitrary number?

For me DA2 and DAI plus their DLC make DAI feel more like one larger DA2 expansion that branches out into a story of its own over time. I still see DAO and its DLC as completely separate stories with only a few things carrying over to the other games (namely Anders/Justice).

I'd end up playing them in this order because of that.

DA2 (Act I/II)

Mark of the Assassin

Legacy

DA2 (Act III)

DAI

Descent

Jaws of Hakkon

Trespasser

When was the last time Bioware did 5 story DLCs

I believe they've said in the past that full-on expansions are just not as feasible as they once where, especially with DLC now being more of a thing than it ever was.

For them or for the industry?
