They already announced a year ago there would be no awakening style expansion. Though I do tend to agree, while they claim DAI was successful (and it was critically) I'm beginning to wonder if it actually was financially. Nearly a year out, and the follow up title still hasn't been greenlit? That's not very good news considering development is generally year round, with maybe 1-2 month breaks here and there.

I'd like to think Bioware and EA are focusing on the ME before developing and releasing the new DA.

The Witcher 3 has two planned expansions.  One is due in October, the second one (the longer one) is due early 2016.  The core game was released in May this year.

So if CDPR can accomplish two expansions within a calendar year of the release of the core game, I don't know why it's too much to expect BioWare to come up with *one* expansion during the lifetime of DA:I.

I don't think it's "too much to expect" it's just not what they want to do. Obviously, they get what they want with the large DLC's. I'm pretty happy with the current arrangement, I haven't really played any expansions (Throne of Bhaal, Awakening) that just totally blow my socks off - they're good but not "better" than the DLC approach.
