Hi guys... I've come to think... I usually play male chars. Now... How comes I only got 3 romanceable npcs while women got 6?

As a male I can romance Cassie, Josie and Dorian. Nothing more. Women got Cullen, Josie, Sera, Blackwall, Solas, and Iron bull... This isn't right.... or am I missing something??

Men can romance Iron Bull as well. I suppose it's worth noting also that the LI's for male Inquisitors are all open to every race, whereas Solas and Cullen are both limited to 1 or 2 races.

Iron Bull is Male and Female.

Solas is race gated so only female Elves can romance him.

Cullen is Race gated as well so only Human and Elvan races can romance him.

though I'm sure some people can argue that male characters had more romance choices in Bioware's previous game (ME3) so this help balnce that out.

Mmm. I see your point... but only Cassie and Josie for a heterosexual relation is a bit...restrictive... sigh..

That's the same amount of romances that for heterosexual men in DA:O (Morrigan and Leliana) and DA2 (Isabela and Merrill).  It's no more 'restrictive' than any past game.

Uhm...you're right... maybe it's just the fact that DAI is more replayable imho, and I would like the choice to be more varied. And I sooooo want Scout Harding!!! :P

In BG 2 straight men had three options where straight women had one. NWN HotU had two LI for straight men where straight women had one. And of course none for gay and lesbian players.

This isn't about fair, it's about telling stories.

Think about it like, this first there were 6. Dorian, Sera, IB, Josie, Cass and BBlackwall. So then from what i gathered they had left overs on the romance budget so they added Cullen and Solas. Now think about who they could've added instead of either of these 2. Vivienne? Has the duke and is a complete ******. Varric? Taken. Cole? Spirit and sort of child. Leliana? Potentially taken. So really Cullen and Solas were the only possible ones they could add. Maybe Varric if his personal quest wasn't about Bianca.

I must say, OP is going on about this better than others have presented in the past.

I didn't liked that Cullen and Solas were only for females as well. Kinda meh. If they hadn't added races and we only human they would probably had time to make them bisexual (there is VO for them). Now we can only whine about it and hope BioWare will give players equal number of choices.

VAs often record all the dialogue and then it's sorted out later (there's dialouge in DA2's files in which m!Hawke is voicing all unqiue f!Hawke's lines).

Iron Bull =  He fucks everything in this world.

There isn't a character who is not insane to be romance-able IN THE TREE GAMES

Leliana: She  think she is some minor saint maybe.

Zevran: Another who "fucks everything in this world." which probaby isn't really enough to claim someone is insane. The liking to kill people tendecies might just be though.

Alistair: I don't know how take a man who can't wash his own socks, and he is very goofy.

Morrigan: That wanabe-tough bit**

Merrill: "Everyone who distrusted me all game long is dead if Hawke messes up that is :3"

Isabella: Another who "fucks everything in this world." which again is no reason to claim her as insane.

Fenris: Emobot9000 (No correction needed here)

Anders: I don't want a threesome with an abomination .-.since that's indeed not everyones taste I guess.

Cassandra: I'm not sure if my eyes still work properly.

Dorian: A bit arrogant, but that glorious ass...

Here, I  fixed that for you. :P

Granted most companions are indeed not perfectly sane by modern standards but then again who in Thedas is?

There's evidence that Cullen was written to be bisexual.  He has lines for a male PC and there's recorded dialogue where Dorian comments on the m/m relationship with Cullen.  So it's more than just the VA's recording both sets of dialogue.  There's m/m specific dialogue that was recorded and is still in the game files.  For some reason (either budget or because it 'didn't fit' for his character), they scrapped it before release.

I did hear that Cullen had actual dialouge written for a proposed m/m romance, but Solas - since his was recorded at the last moment and Weekes confirmed he wrote the romance for an f!Lavellan - is more likely to be a case of everyone recorded everything and it was sorted out later.

What's Hawke's line again, 'Did I ever give you the impression I was turned off by crazy?'

But those are the two most popular races. While your point stands, this is a bit different from Varric only being available to female dwarves.

I would've had the following: Cassie, Josie, Vivienne, Harding, Sera. I fully understand that each Npc should have his own sexual preferences but... some bisex nps wouldn't have hurt anyone...you're free to do it or not to.

While I agree with what everyone here has said about the ratio of love interests for the male and female being off balance, one thing I am glad of is that not everyone is straight and not everyone is gay or bi. See I know this is a game and in the game everyone would be the same if we had it our own way, Could romance anyone we wanted to no matter our sex, race, creed, etc. However, I am glad there are "differences". Just like IRL. Some are straight, some are gay, some are bi. I agree they need to give us a wider range of romance interests, I love the fact that Cullen is straight and that he will not romance a dwarf etc. I love that Sera only loves women, and Solas only elves. (makes me want to play different scenarios to enjoy the game fuller.) On the other hand, I played a male to experience the Dorian romance, I am female, in case you could not tell by my name, lol, and play only females. I also played a male to romance Cassandra and wanted to see the male perspective with josephine. I hope this does not bring out a bunch of meanness as I meant no harm in posting this. Just my view on the way things are.   That being said my Dwarf would have loved to romance Varric, and I miss not having Leliana as a romance option too.

Considering that in a vast majority of games the protagonist is, by default, a heterosexual male...No. This isn't unfair.
