This topic was beaten to death months ago. Yes it's annoying that straight males only got two love interests (one of whom doesn't even a love scene) when females get four, but these are the stories that BioWare wanted to tell, and let's be honest it's usually the other way around. I sincerely doubt there was any secret agenda when the devs wrote the romances.
Man/woman romances...unfair?

Considering that in a vast majority of games the protagonist is, by default, a heterosexual male...No. This isn't unfair.
Bad+bad not equal good. And we don't speak about other games we speak about Dragon age Inquisition.

It's not a question of fairness, it's how the characters are written. So there are more female LI's than male, this isn't because the writing team decided to maliciously attack their male playerbase, but because it's how the characters turned out.
It's also not like you can't enjoy the Female LI's just because you're a male irl. You're free to make female pc's as well.
So if in the next game, there turns out to be more male LI's than female LI's there shouldn't be any drama.
Just kidding, the drama would be next level and it would be hilarious.

It's a side effect of having so many male companions. Including Vivienne as an LI would mean all female Inquisition members are romanceable. Leliana was a previous romance option, complicating the matter. Plus her story/personality in DAI really doesn't lend itself to a romance.
Cullen and Solas were last minute additions for female romances (also race-gated). Overall, male Inquisitors get 4 options, females get 6. It's kind of like a flipped mirror image of the ME series (though that had more restrictions on gay people's options).
I prefer everyone to get an equal amount, but tbh guys have no less choice than in previous DA games (and more than DAO, if you're including males options as well as females, since DAO just had Zev).

I personally think that they should have removed one of the male LI's, turned another one Bi and add a Bi Female LI so that way everyone gets 3.

I'm more bothered by the lack of romanceable elves for male elfquisitors, and the lack of romanceable dwarves in general. Especially Dagna and Harding. Dagna is a big geek and Harding is just earthy, both would make for fantastic companions and love interests.
This! The only dwarven companion who wouldn't work as a romance this far is Oghren. Sigrun and DA2-Varric would have been great! We need a dwarf romance in DA4!

Iron Bull can be romanced by every race, gender and sexuality. Solas is race gated so he can only be romanced by a female elf. Even though there are more romance options for female characters (not including dwarves and Qunari), that doesn't mean they don't have their restrictions. And IIRC, typically male characters are given more options or better options, if you will.
If it's a bother, change your gender while playing this one specific game. The playthroughs are not very different according to gender besides the romance options. I hope I don't sound like an arse.. ![]()
Personally I find it more annoying that a majority of the romance options are human. No interesting elf romance in DA:I except Solas and he.. *sobs*, plus he's race gated. And the only Qunari romance option is into kink, which isn't for everyone!

Much like real life. Just because you pine after person x, doesn't mean they are going to like you back in that way. ![]()
I think we all just want to escape into fantasy land and have everything go our way, at least in the love dept. Then you get kicked in the shin when BioWare jolts you back to reality with that little nugget.
I personally love Dorian and have come to grips with him not being able to love me back in that way and just roll a male to romance him.

I'm happily married and father of 3 girls, I don't try to escape reality!
I just opened this post (and I didn't know there were sooo many others, otherwise...) to see if someone else felt like something more could have been done in terms of "possibilities".... I started my main Qunari character with the idea in mind that he would have romanced Josie... I think everyone does it... you just figure it ahead...

more non-humans, non-andrastians and mages females companions to romance for male heroes...may they be race restricted as "elf will not romance human" that would be only better
non-humans, non-andrastians and mages heroes not have any Li for all 3 games(2 cos hawke is human)..we have li what is mostly created for human andrastian non-mage
females have everything, except dwarf male for a full collection
this is unfair

There's evidence that Cullen was written to be bisexual. He has lines for a male PC and there's recorded dialogue where Dorian comments on the m/m relationship with Cullen. So it's more than just the VA's recording both sets of dialogue. There's m/m specific dialogue that was recorded and is still in the game files. For some reason (either budget or because it 'didn't fit' for his character), they scrapped it before release.
it is in the game files, but Gaider later said in an interview they deliberately decided to keep cullen straight. the decision was made because they felt it fit his story from the previous games more accurately. also, they wanted to have the characters come with a set personality and sexuality (like dorian or solas being attracted only to particular people). there was some concern that with da2 all the LIs being bi, that this erased the sexuality of the character, rather than it really being 4 bi LIs.

they never, and even many npc or agents were much interesting than those who we have...it is since DAO-DAA
we never have a real choice of romance options and "many" -2 of them is suited mostly for a andrastian human non-mage...2 game with 3-4 playable races and again andrastian human non-mages females
this is worst than DAO have, and DA2

The only problem I see is that so many people complain about this situation ONLY when straight males perceive they have "less." I never hear quite such a ruckus when straight females, or gay/lesbian PCs have less.

I'm a straight female and I didn't like my options in DAI. But I also can see that if you wanted to play as a straight male non human your choices weren't exactly grand either. I do think it was unfair that you couldn't marry if you were in a straight male relationship with Cass. I don't think you could marry Josie either?
