I'd like someone like Chief Movran The Under from DA:I. We need a sarcastic-funny space Viking/Celtic warrior in Andromeda.

Another science nerd like Liara, but a young man this time instead of a young woman. Perhaps a quarian?

A hard, take charge older woman, sort of like Two in Dark Matter, or Cassandra.

An elcor pilot - for laughs xD

A regimental, seasoned women would be interesting to have as a sort of "high command", similar to Hackett or even Anderson. A quarian scientist seem interesting, but the elcor pilot is a must

I really liked Morinth, I want someone like her, but just a bit less emotional, less serious and more playful in a slight goofy way. A character without a moral compass, with no tears in the backstory that is completely satisfied with who they currently are, what they do and is not afraid to fail or die. A character that never regrets anything they've ever done.

I have never played with Morinth yet. I find it would be hard to betry Samara as she is one of my favorite characters. During my next play through I probably will.

i liked Jack's personality tbh. i'd love to see an extension of this personality with a few tweaks. it'd be interesting to see a personality like Jack's coupled with an addiction problem brought on by the death of a former lover or something. but i doubt this could happen since it'll play too close to the drugs line and people will think the game is encouraging drug us. =\

I also liked Cortez. he had one of the smaller parts to play in the game but i liked his humility, his kindness, his soft-spoken ways and how he managed his pain in the game. he seemed not too fragile but at the same time he masked his hurt well and channeled them down to easy going mourning/nostalgia almost. hmm...

writing that made me think of someone as a villian

fistfuldollarsvolante.jpg

this is indio from the western A Fistful of Dollars. now Indio was quite a villain; as despicable as they come. killing without mercy, torturing for pleasure/vengeance, stealing for profit. but he was a troubled villian at the same time. and the way it was portrayed in the movie, it made him seem like when he was alone, he'd be a fragile creature, pondering upon his own being. would like to see a villain like that as well.

Bioware has never disappointed me as far as characters go. I just really do not want to see another "Nigh-ultimate Lawful Good Human Man" like Kaiden/Jacob/Vega/Alistair/Nathaniel/Blackwall paired with another more morally ambigous/less sqeaky clean "tough" girl like Ashley/Miranda/Morrigan/Velaana/Cassandra. (I thought girls liked badboys?) It always seems like I can effortlessly gain the approval of my male companion but I need a damn guide to keep the female from hating my "lawful good" guts.

Basically, characters (or at least characters the narrative is trying to sell as heroes) should never beg, plead, whine, or even request virtue from others, friends or enemies. They should demand it. So when a character gleefully suggests an innocent person be murdered for whatever silly reason, the response should not be to whimper "Please look into your heart. Is this the right thing to do?" It should be getting in their face and telling them that's not going to happen and making sure they know that sort of attitude is unacceptable and will be punished.

I see what you're saying but I think maybe a different word than "effeminate" could be used here because plenty of women are tough and aggressive and plenty of men are the opposite.

Maybe "compassionate" or "bleeding heart."

I agree about Cortez! The grieving soldier ... it was handled well. Just don't think it made him a very good romance option. We had the grieving soldier in dragon age with Aveline, which I think was also handled well. (Though not Wesley's death... would've been better if we'd never met Wesley, like we never met Steve's hubby).

I'd like to have characters that are nice and usually fun to be around. Not jerks, and not feeling the need to be angsty all the time.

As far as personality traits go, I'd like to avoid sycophantic always-supportive types who are supposed to be canonical buddies. ME was a bit of a worse offender, between Liara and Tali and Garrus, and that's on top of the general hero worship from the sympathetic cast.

I'm also getting tired of deadpan snarker- they're good occasionally, but they seem to creep more and more into every Bioware character until they've infected half the cast for the sake of in-jokes and witty one-liners. Let's get more sass and tear-downs like Vivienne.

I'm also tired of 'dark and edgier' characters being either outright woobies (Jack), or the 'grizzled nigh-amoral veterans' like Zaeed, Wrex, and even (somehow) Grunt.

I suppose some things I'd like to see...

-A utilitarian moralist.

In most Bioware games, the 'good' characters, the ones who openly let morality guide them and chide the player on ethics, are almost invariably empathy-based immediate-consequentialists (with a touch of deontologist). I'd like to see a 'greater good' moralist- someone who judges and chides the player not on the immediate impacts, but on expected consequences and greater good issues: the sort who would certainly approve of saving someone, but lambast the player for things like letting Balak get away.

Paragon-ism was dealt with a remarkably soft hand and generally treated as the 'unquestionably moral' avenue. I'd like a companion who can soundly challenge the ethics of being too nice.

^ Well said. One character immediately comes to my mind with this "utilitarian moralist" outlook.... Kreia from Kotor 2:

Would you of supported a Shepard get in T'soni's face and tell her to shut the heck up about her saying that stupid line about the next time we go to war, maybe the Alliance could provide air support?

Mass Effect has thankfully done a very good job of this overall. The biggest failing was with Javik.

Why didn't you like him? Was it because he spoke his mind? Or was it because he talk crap about Liara?

Completely ridiculous alignment chart aside, the NPCs have to align with the player goals and gameplay aims, so any extremes are rather unlikely to occur, unless crafted to narrative, like Wrex and Jack.

BW is pretty much industry famous for getting companions right, so this thread isn't much for usage metrics.

It's the rest of the stuff they need to be shoring up, particularly the big picture themes and ramifications.

Heck I thought he was one of the best ones in the game, and you can even influence his demeanor for the better if you so choose. Plus, he has what is easily my favorite final dialogue in Priority: Earth.

Nah there's only one Aria; she is perfection and cannot be repeated ;_; Siiiiigh why won't she love me <3

Personally I found him very one note and hence quite boring. James, Cortez, Traynor -- guys who were also only introduced in ME3, I think they were more well-rounded and interesting. However, Javik had an amazing voice actor.

I want a male quarian squaddie with this guy's accent and attitude:

If he can't be a squaddie, make him the ship's pilot or shuttle/mako driver.

I want a sleazy, slimy character like Gamlen from DA2. Someone who isn't charming or aggressive, but knows exactly what to say or do to get what they want. They'd be friendly enough, but not overly so that they'd abandon reason for camaraderie, and they would approve of any actions that'd get them closer to what they want regardless of morality.

A Character that appears to be a Cynic on the Outside, but in Reality values Idealism far more.
