Solas.

Playing a Dalish mage who doesn't actively despise everything elf-related (as Sera does)? Solas is your man.

Yeah, Sera doesn't make sense for a mage, because in what kind of bizarro universe would the Keeper of Clan Lavellan pick a First who actively hates elven history, lore and anything to do with their people in principle? Only if the Keeper was drunk when she made the decision (and the Dalish unfortunately operate under no-backsies) or they had no other mages to pick from, does it make even the slightly bit of sense!

Sera suits more of a rogue or warrior, because you can at least roleplay them as being far more neutral or disliking their upbringing.

Heterosexual male dalish mage :- Josephine.

Homosexual male dalish mage :- Dorian.

Heterosexual female dalish mage :- Solas or Cullen.

Homosexual female dalish mage :- Josephine.

As a Dalish Mage, your character will logically end up with either Josephine or Dorian or Solas or Cullen. The rest either harbor some form of hostility towards magic and elves.

Logically a dalish mage would romance Solas if [female] or go it alone, every other option would be frowned upon regardless of any demonstrable hostility to mages and/or elves. That aside, there's only one companion that demonstrates any real outright hostility towards magic and/or elves and that's Sera.

Even more so considering that I believe Clan Lavellan seems to have a Second as well as possibly a Third, meaning there would be no reason to make Lavellan the First unless the Second or Third were so utterly undesirable as a Keeper that they made Lavellan look the better choice.

...which is exactly why I'd romance them as a Dalish first.  What good is a romance without conflict?

Solas or Sera, I think they are both interesting for a Dalish elf, because they both obviously have personal issues with the Dalish for different reasons... So you have to work for it and it's sweeter once you earn their trust/respect. But it depends how you want to play your character. Sera is so leery of magic and will challenge Lavellan to change of some of her "elfy" beliefs. Romancing Solas with a mage feels like they have a really deep connection...you can get approval with him quickly, most of the conflict comes from him being torn and hiding his own identity/past, and how guarded he is. I haven't done a Blackwall romance yet.

Unless they sent a Dalish-hating mage Lavellan alone to the Conclave was in the hopes that they'd not survive either the journey or the Conclave if things went bad, so they'd finally rid themselves of an absolutely terrible future Keeper... which in which case, I kinda don't blame Lavellan if they screwed up the war table mission and got them all killed later on.

What about Blackwall, don't remember him ever seeming to have some kind of prejudice against magic or elves?

I mean, his best friend in the Inquisition is probably Sera who's an elf, and his clashes with the mages are more about other things than magic. He's not that close to Solas because he won't stop insulting Wardens, he doesn't get along with Dorian because he thinks he's nothing more than a pampered noble, while his attempts to be civil to Vivienne often are rebuffed because she really is an elitist snob.

(Although I'd say that Blackwall kinda suits an Adaar or Cadash more, as their own somewhat murky past makes it easier to sympathise with him, and because depending on how you roleplay them, they could easily have done similar actions in the past)

I don't think they would... I think it's more like, if you want your Lavellan to have a character arc where they reject the elven gods and embrace Andraste/the Maker, and being the Herlald. Over the course of the game, a Lavellan Quizzy learns a lot about her people that could cause her to become disillusioned. And actually that still happens in a Solasmance... But Solas is more serious and looks backwards to the past, and Sera is playful and looks to the present/future. That's why I think they are both interesting, though Solas is my favorite for my canon Quizzy.

For me, Solas romance is the best for an elf.

Spoiler
No other romance offers this. Sure Sera's romance ends with her giving you an ultimatum, give up your beliefs or we're done and I won't even be you're friend anymore. But to me that just, "Wow, you are a crappy person. You are going try to force me to change who I am, because I have a different deity that I pray to then you. Well, then I'm glad we're ending this relationship now. I want nothing to do with you anymore." Sera's relationship with an elf is more for the people who enjoy toxic, problematic romances, while Solas is more for those heart achingly tragic romances.

As for Blackwall, I think his relationship would be interesting regardless of what race or class you go with. I don't think class or race has much difference in his romance as it does for Sera's. Its problematic, but less in abusive/manipulating territory that Sera's is in. How would your Quizz deal with the truth of his real identity?

I went with Cullen.

But my dalish elf didn't like dalish culture. She felt they were far too stuck in the past. She was pretty much a city elf at heart.

And Solas grandpa racism did him no favors in her eyes.

I played a Dalish mage in my first playthrough and romanced Sera, and now I can't play or romance anybody else. Whisper wasn't sure whether the elven pantheon were really gods anyway - after all, what sort of gods allow themselves to be trapped and let their followers lose everything anyway - and hadn't ever seen anything that convinced her that the Maker was anything more than an explanation that had made enough sense to enough people to take hold. So even after confirming that they were beings of great power, that still didn't mean they were gods rather than just godlike.

Also, after having to remain aloof from the rest of her clan for so many years (her Keeper taught that the role of the Keeper is to be parent to the clan, rather than closely tied to any specific member of it), having an elf who treated her as a friend first and anything else second or even further back than that was exactly what a very lonely woman needed. The abuse and prejudice that Sera had experienced from all the elves over the years who'd told her she wasn't "elfy enough" did of course mean that not everything went smoothly, but they found a way to work past that and forge a deep and lasting connection to each other.

Cullen. He's sweet, easy on the eyes, and the romance is well paced. He also isn't going to rip your still beating heart from your chest.

Just keep him away from lyrium and you'll be fine.

My Dalish mage Tressa was a brilliant student. Her inquisitive mind, ability to learn quickly and empathy for others made her an obvious choice to train as Keeper's first, and she excelled in the role.

Her inquisitive mind had a side-effect, though; she always wanted to learn more. Her clan's occasional contact with humans and others made her curious to know more about other belief systems, and she jumped at the chance to visit the Conclave and see more at first hand.

I'd planned her since before the game shipped, and wanted her to lose her faith as the game progressed and she was exposed to other ideas and cultures. Little did I imagine how well the game would let me do that.

Sera was fascinating to her from the off - an elf so different from any she'd known. She immediately wanted to get to know her better and understand what made her tick.

While she didn't agree with Sera's views on Dalish culture and history, as she began to understand where they came from she found that she could look past them and accept Sera for who she was. She understood that this was what Sera needed and was willing to look past her faults in order to win the heart of this fun-loving antidote to all the bigwigs and power-brokers that surrounded her.

By the time Mythal came around, Tressa was certain that the Elven gods were powerful magical creatures, but not that they were in any way worthy of her worship. She was more than willing to let Sera dismiss them as "Demons" even if she wouldn't agree with that definition.

It was a rocky road, but ultimately a very realistic-feeling romance that will almost certainly be my canon. Sera is no good for a Dalish mage? Only if you lack imagination.

Why is Iron Bull not an option? :crying: Solas, Blackwall, and Sera(if you're an elf) all involve angst. :P

I'd rather ride the wolf. They're fluffier. The bull will leave you walking funny and you're butt aching for days.
