On the 'this game is exactly like Skyrim' front. Interesting story: I started playing Skyrim twice. And even though I probably racked up over 200 hours with it...and di have a certain amount of fun. Never finished it. It was an alright game, and I get why people enjoyed it, but it just got so looonnng and boring. And BW games one after another always attracted me. In short DA I is most certainly not Skyrim. At least not to me.

I have 2800+ hrs in Skyrim, and still find it to be a different approach than Bioware titles. Bioware games are story driven; Skyrim is a sandbox. In DAI, it melds the two a bit, but still has a central story driving much of the action. Skyrim is a meld of shorter tales, and the Player devises the ways to put them together.
And FWIW, never did finish Skyrim either; not one DB reached 81st to see the final quest.

I don't think you need to be at level 81 to do the final quest.

I expected a classic BioWare title with an emphasis on roleplaying, and that's exactly what I got.
Also, I'd been asking them to give us more exploration ever since they curtailed it in BG2, and now finally I got it.
I think DAI was a brilliant game.
Like I said in another thread, the new DLC seems to be more narrative focused instead of exploration. If this is to mean anything, then perhaps the momentum going into DA4 is that narrative is the what fans want, not lore/exploration like the previous 2 DLCs and vanilla DAI.

I think Inquisition is a fun game. Not my favourite bioware game, but still solid. Certain parts remind me a bit of Kotor, actually. I'm not entirely sure why.
In some regards, I find Inquisition to be a step in the right direction: More exploration, more choice in where you want to go etc.
The Party composition is easily the third best in any bioware game, only beaten by DAII and ME1 if you ask me.
My favourite quest is Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts. It was so different from everything else in the game, and I found that night of political intrigue to be very enjoyable.
Inquisition suffers a bit from having too many quest like "collect X amount of this", or "kill X amount of this", but most RPGs have these kinds of quest, and the positive outweigh the negative for me.
That said, the game is very long if you take time and do everything, and i'm not really tempted to start up any new playthrough any time soon.

I am not sure but I think the Ebony warrior won't show until then. I have never taken a DB beyond 60 something =).

Or it simply concludes the same way as it started.

I have added a mod where I am able to change that starting lvl restriction; should see the Ebony Warrior is my next campaign. Believe it is titled Timing Is Everything.

BioWare often experiments in DLC. Look at that dreadful stealth mechanic in MotA, or the gimmicky fights in Legacy. Or the level scaling in JoH.Like I said in another thread, the new DLC seems to be more narrative focused instead of exploration. I wouldn't be surprised if BioWare pulled back from the things that made DAI great. They did that with DA2 after DAO, as well.
But I will keep advocating for greater roleplaying freedom, a less tightly woven narrative, fewer cutscenes, and greater control and knowledge of what our characters do, regardless of the direction BioWare takes.

I choked up hearing 'The Dawn Will Come'. for the first time as well, and then was very excited on that scene of first seeing skyhold. It makes me a little sad now that the music doesnt affect me anymore.
It still affects me. That was the moment for me when the dragon Age games stopped being an RPG setting and became an actual place.

I heard that too. Can't quote the source (at work now) but I'm pretty sure your memory is doing just fine running on the caffeination equivalent of fumes
Yeah no clue as to the when but I do recall it was Gaider and the topic was how often place holder names can end up sticking, that Thedas was just the place holder because they couldn't agree on a name, and when they came back to the issue later everyone was used to using Thedas so it stuck. Or at least that is what my head is telling me.
Oh and eight months later, it's still my favourite game of the past twelve months. I've loved almost every part of it, could some bits be better, sure. the day the perfect game comes out.... is the day we never buy another game ever. No game is perfect but this one was pretty damned good.

They were trying to come up with a name for The Dragon Age setting, but kept shortening it to thedas which stuck. I'm sure they've talked about it on stream before.
Apparently they used it on the forums and it stuck. There's a thread from 2009 speculating about it, but the links are dud.

Yup. Finished the story precisely ONCE. I have 69 hours. I haven't even started another character. With DAI, I have over 300 hours now, with at least two characters planned when I finish Nightmare. Please note that I have played maybe thirty hours (generous estimate) of DAMP.

I agree. Skyrim is a sandbox. After all, wasn't one of the marketing lines to "Live another life, in another world"?

Wicked EYes probably could have been but I felt there was no real mystery to it...I was like...yep she gonna do it.

I'm not leaving Thedas any time soon. I have Ben's playthrough to finish up and then have planned anywhere between 1-3 other additonal play threads. AT LEAST.

If it's any comfort I won't be leaving anytime soon =) But, yes it is a bit melancholy that they are finished with this cycle of DA.
However!
A new Dragon age game will rise like Phoenix in the bright future. =)

I've almost exclusively played Dragon Age: Inquisition since its original shipping date, and yes I preordered the Inquisitors Edition. I've dabbled some with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but have yet to invest myself too far into the game (plenty of time left to do that); I mean a new DA game only comes along every so often - right?
I've had many previous series favorite companions, but the current cast is the strongest overall and the most diverse. Every game has flaws and to me this is seldom a valid criticism leveraged against them. The forum is chock full to bursting over things that failed to resonate with some of us, but even with the high volume of critiques - we all seem to keep playing this franchise (and I hope that continues for many years).
I'm approaching next Tuesday with equal parts excitement and trepidation!!

He was either inspired by the Eleventh Doctor or Gandalf.
Speaking of LOTR I know this is not strictly speaking related to DA or DA I but its fitting:
Hope they do something like this for DA. I mean we did hear that they were doing more tavern songs right? Right?
