But what if he's home already?

Then he is truly lost.

I prefer "all bisexual" myself. Locking myself out of content at the character creator can be paralyzing.

I think guys have a very small point. Both Cass and Josie encourage a certain knight in shining armor idealized romance, in the same way Fenris and Anders were dark, brooding men who needed to be fixed. Cass/Josie and Sera might've provided more contrast.

Oh god no. That needs to stay gone .

The best Straight Men are so good they can sometimes get laughs just by delivering a straight line so well the audience knows what's coming.

Heh, OP is now bitching about the same problem I've had for the past two games . . . wait, make that pretty much every game Bioware has ever made . . .

WELCOME TO THE CLUB, MY FRIEND.

I'm not gloating.  I'd like for everyone to have All Teh Options, but it's just not going to happen.  It has nothing to do with being a "straight man" or anything else.  It's just life.  They can't please everybody all the time.  It's well past time for people to realize that this isn't something to complain about.

I cannot believe people are still whining about this! Yes I hated my 2 options, too, but I whined for the appropriate amount of time, left the forums for the expected amount of sulking time, then returned to move on to ME4, so I could preemptively whine about my options there.

Get with it people!!

As a straight male who plays females, I was disappointed by the lesbian options in the game. But that female romance with Bull? Wow, my Inquisitor couldn't walk for days.

It's almost as if people are just now playing the game for the first time? (I played for a bit a few months back but never got that far into it and shelved the game, just came back to it)

As a straight male, I can understand the complaint to a point. Both Cassandra and Josephine invoke a samey white knight in shining armor type of romance.

I tend to mix up my characters personally. My first Inquisitor was a femQunari who had a blast romancing Sera and my canon is a femLavellan that romanced Solas. So it wasn't a problem for me, but it would have been nicer to have more contrast. In previous games there was Morrigan-Leliana and Isabella-Merrill, radically different characters and types of romances. The main difference between the Cassandra-Josephine romance is that Cassandra initially hides that she wants a traditional lovey-dovey romance.

There are also black women with perfectly straight hair .

And also with hair or without Viv is freaking gorgeous .

Black people don't have perfectly straight hair. If they do, they put A LOT of styling chemicals in it to get it that way. It's naturally tight and curly (afro). If their hair is straighter than an afro naturally, they are mixed with something.

And yes, Viv is gorgeous as is! But I think it was kinda cheesy that her and Horsemaster Dennet's daugher are the only black females in the game, and they both have shaved heads...

But back on topic... from what I've read, it boils down to straight males not having a hot "trophy" LI. I bet if Cassandra looked like Leliana or Miranda from Mass Effect, this wouldn't be an issue. Hell, I bet if Cassandra a more "feminine" hairstyle, this conversation wouldn't be happening!

That being said, as a straight male, I'm personally fine with the options. Sure, it would've been cool to have more, but that should be far from a primary focus. As far as I'm concerned, LI's in games like this are just thrown in for fan service.

As for people saying they should model their love interest system like it is in the Witcher 3? I completely disagree. IMO, the Witcher 3 basically asks the player if they would rather have a hot blonde, a hot redhead, or a hot raven-haired girl. They all throw themselves at you no matter what, you just need to decide which one you prefer... Sure it conveniently works for that game, but the mechanics are lame, IMO. The way I see it, if you're gonna bother including a serious romance segment in a game, at least have some sort of mechanic to it where you actually need to put effort into it or have a way you can fail at it to make it somewhat realistic.

Yeah, in a perfect world there would be equal but there isn't. Deal with it. It's always been the same!

Mass Effect:

  • Straight Male (2): Ashley, Liara
  • Straight Female (2): Kaidan, Liara
  • Queer Female (1): Liara

Mass Effect 2:

  • Straight Male (3): Miranda, Tali'Zorah, Jack
  • Straight Female (3): Jacob, Garrus, Thane
  • I'm not counting Kelly or Samara as they don't count towards the Paramour achievement

Mass Effect 3:

  • Straight Male (4): Miranda, Tali'Zorah, Jack, Ashley
  • Gay Male (2): Cortez, Kaidan
  • Straight Female (3): Thane, Garrus, Kaidan
  • Gay Female (2): Traynor, Liara

Dragon Age: Origins:

  • Straight Male (2): Morrigan, Leliana
  • Gay Male (1): Zevran
  • Straight Female (2): Alistair, Zevran
  • Gay Female (1): Leliana

Dragon Age II:

  • Straight Male (2): Isabela, Merrill
  • Gay Male (2): Anders, Fenris
  • Straight Female (3): Anders, Fenris, Sebastian
  • Gay Female (2): Isabela, Merrill

Dragon Age Inquisition:

  • Straight Male (2): Josephine, Cassandra
  • Gay Male (2): Dorian, Iron Bull
  • Straight Female (4): Cullen (H/E only), Solas (E only), Iron Bull, Blackwall
  • Gay Female (2): Josephine, Sera

Now originally, Cullen and Solas weren't LI's in the game... this was only added when the game's release was set back. So originally it would have been equal.

And Leliana was too goody-goody, Morrigan was a hateful cow, Isabela was a tramp and Merrill was a child. Man, the same song gets played EVERY game. There hasn't been a Dragon Age game yet where everyone was satisfied with all the options.

You shoulda been here in DA2, when all the straight girls complained about their options being limited to the broody elf, the Chantry bomber and the celibate prince.

Mother Giselle is black. There's also an black NPC in Sahrnia who's connected to a side quest. Also, one of the mages in Solas' personal quest was black. She doesn't say anything, mind you.

I think Viv has a shaved head for the same reason most NPCs in Orlais do: so it doesn't clip through their hat/mask.

As a straight man, I prefer RL LI's... The game LI's are just kinda part of the game story, correct? However they assign the sexualities of the various "Inner Circle" (or off-Broadway, as it were, such as Scout Harding), it's just the background of the game.  You know you're not actually having nookies with anyone, right? I mean, DA isn't a branch of Match.com. It's just providing more or less interesting story arcs to play through. Don't want to see Dorian's naked butt? No problem. Same thing as not desecrating Dalish burial ruins just to complete a mosaic collection side-quest. Your choice. Your preference.

Frankly the whole "romancing" subplot in DA is a bit silly for me- love-by-predetermined-clicks. Want nookies? Find someone or watch porn. No point for it in my game. So if the "options" seem insufficient, who cares? It's not exactly going to fulfill you as a human being (OK, or elven or dwarven or qunari being). As a straight man, if all the options for "romance" in DA were homosexual, I'd be 100% fine with it. Is it any better playing a girl doing a guy? Unless there are quest options only available by doing a guy which would be irritating, since... really? And how is that any more stupid than quests based on doing a girl? But neither are the case in DA thankfully, so...

That said, I'm playing a female elf trying to romance Solas. What? He's got a cool lore-based character...

I mean, why aren't we also calling for the devs to give us better side-missions? Why this regular concern about diddling the character we want to diddle in just the way we want to diddle them?

*reads the OP, where there is 0 complaint about Straight women getting more options*

*reads 6 pages of comments where people rant like the OP was complaining about straight guys getting more options because they aren't even reading the posts anymore, just parroting the same talking points BSN has been using like a shield for a year now*

lol.

Personally, I'm 100% ok with either of the last three options. I just hope they don't ditch them (they won't), and I'll roll new characters appropriately if there's someone who's arc I'd like to explore.

Also, end of the day, I think the inability of some straight guys to roleplay anything other than some straight guy is profoundly weird. They're probably not elves in real life either.

Funny, that, right?  People aren't mages.  Aren't dwarves, qunari, and elves.  But sexuality and gender is something different entirely.  Not that it's a problem.  Everyone is free to play however they want, but I always find that amusing.

"WHAT?!?  How can you expect me to play a gay fire-producing elf?  Don't be unrealistic.  My fire-producing elf must be straight!"

I prefer "all bisexual" myself. Locking myself out of content at the character creator can be paralyzing.

I hated that both Anders and Fenris were dark brooding types in DA2.  I want a KISA for my gay guy so bad, but I made do with my options.  Anders makes a compelling story, even if he's a possessed terrorist.

Mass Effect 3:
  • Straight Male (6): Miranda, Tali'Zorah, Jack, Ashley, Liara, Kelly (who gets a paramour achievement in ME3)
  • Gay Male (2): Cortez, Kaidan
  • Straight Female (3): Thane, Garrus, Kaidan
  • Gay Female (3): Traynor, Liara, Kelly

Made a few small corrections to the numbers.  You forgot Liara for straight guys and Kelly gets the paramour achievement in ME3.

How dare you imply my post about the lizardmen conspiracy against straight men could have been anything but the utmost seriousness! The lizardmen despise the perfect world that has been constructed! Do not listen to their honeyed words of diversity! For the only diversity they care for is in their diet when they feast upon our society! The only way to stop their incursion is a unified front of supporting all things that cater to straight males and shunning all other things! Down with the lizardmen! :P

Hmm ... I think there wheren't so many people making stupid jokes about this thread if he wrote: "As a homosexuel man."  But if you would make the same stuipd jokes and phrases like here in a thread about a "homosexuel romance" - everbody would say you discriminate this person.

If you don't care about this romance theme: Don't care and don't write. But making stupid jokes and moke the Thread-maker is not nice. It's his opinion and he just said what he wanted to see in DA4 or in a DLC (or whatever). No reason to moke him. That's horrible.

Hope you understand what I wanted to say, my english is not very good.

But seriously. It's not really about the fact that straight girls got more. That's just the rationalization people are using. You are seeing these threads over and over because the options for straight males just don't hit the demographic as strongly as prior games. A larger majority of guys just don't like them compared prior options.  Blame a lack of stereotypically "feminine" traits. Blame the fact that they defy the Betty/Veronica dichotomy that most guys appreciate. Blame the fact that Josie is not a companion. As much as BSN wants to believe it's four guys with hundreds of sock-puppet accounts, guys are disappointed in significant numbers.
