Well, I think I am going to use this thread as a way to toot my own horn about something.  I have what I would call two failings in RPG (one is specific to the DA universe) where I have been unable to separate me the player from my characters.  (DQ members will be aware of this already)

  1. I haven't, as a straight male, been able to bring myself to romance a male character.  Haven't been able to put myself sufficiently in the shoes of my character to do that.
  2. I always save the Wardens.  Always.  Because I, the player and not the character, fanboy over the Wardens something terrible.

Well, #1 has been put to bed as I finally began a romance with Blackwall with my female elven rogue Inky.  Woo!  Course, it damned near blew up in my  face when that sniveling bastard backed down after he wanted to walk the battlements.  But it's back on track now, so WOO.

So here's to me for dynamiting scenario #1 into the dustbin of history.

Awnser to question 1.

Try to become someone else. make your character persona and and morals as you play

To 2.

Play like you don't know the results.

Usually I can.  I'm very good at keeping to my "story" for my individual characters.  That's why I consider those two situations above that I listed as failings because I just haven't been able to do that with them, up until now RE: romancing a male character, that is.

Take Solas, for instance.  I, me, the player, cannot stand that character.  He's a lying dog.  Wait, no, that's an insult to dogs.  He's a lying pile of nug crap.  However, more than one of my Inkys gets along with him fabulously.  That's just how their relationships have formed.

Im not sure why some guys get angry about straight women having more options, the only good straight F/M romance for girls is Cullen IMO, IB is mostly used for comedy & the inquisitor has to submit to his rules, essentially becoming his b*tch, to really start it, Blackwall is a lying murderer who f**ks you before leaving to get himself killed after lying throughout the entire relationship & i hesitate to call Solas a real romance tbh, its mostly the inquisitor trying to have a proper relationship with him until he finally decides to reject her right after telling her how more of her Dalish beliefs are lies.

Cullen has an addiction problem and so far there is no cure for Lyrium addiction so he's not safe either.

See all male romance are interesting. Female have no ups and downs. Just boring disney princes yes she have betrothal but it's only for fun as joke. And she not even companion. Cass much better bu still no intrigue nice fluid ride, well it's not exactly true she break up whit inquisitor if become divine.

Mother Giselle is black. There's also an black NPC in Sahrnia who's connected to a side quest. Also, one of the mages in Solas' personal quest was black. She doesn't say anything, mind you.

I think Viv has a shaved head for the same reason most NPCs in Orlais do: so it doesn't clip through their hat/mask.

My point wasn't that there aren't enough black people in the game, I was just saying the ones that are there all have the same hair style. Also, I don't have an issue with Viv's shaved head either.

Uuuuum.....

Those African's depicted in those videos are likely from Indian descent, you can tell from the facial structure. I'm not talking about just people from Africa however, because just like many other continents, there's a large variation of ethnicities. So yes, you can have African's with that kind of hair, you can also have white Africans, etc... From a Western perspective, I was meaning what we consider to be "black". People in that subcategory have that specific texture of hair.

Dude. The video clarifies they are form west Africa and are non mixed and are living in africa. Africans are that diverse.

Also, all the indo-african mixes in afria are is the eastern part of africa. These are west africans.

Dude, I just said that there's a large variation of ethic groups in Africa and that I was NOT talking about citizens of Africa as a whole!

I guess the correct term of the people that are labeled "black" would be African diaspora.

Yeah, the addiction stuff is quite bad but id still take it over finding out my romance choice had a entire family murdered for his own personal greed or getting dumped after telling my elven wannabe boyfriend i loved him

They should just make everyone really hot. All different colors, all different shapes, plus dwarves.

Problem solved.

But then "hawtness" is subjective, so what you may consider hot, another person might think is ugly.... back to square one..

That's very much a matter of perspective.  Some (delusional) people don't think Cassie is hot.  I absolutely find her smokin' hot.

Calls Cassandra bitchy, then adds that he likes Sera. Are you sure you base your taste on their personality and not appearance?

Based off that, he should still prefer Cass. Sera got hit with the ugly.

I feel I should note the irony in telling Bioware to forget about romances while in the same post lamenting how Bioware are not allowed to decide how create their own stories.

Well, well, well sweet child ^^

At least I am not trying to give rules and decide how many characters need to be men and women and how many romances for each orientation.

They are dictating how Bioware should present their characters. An hour crying because of the female characters, another time crying because of the male characters.

It's great to make a suggestion, but enforce this as a rule? It is absurd.

Probably all weeks here in Bioware forum appears a new topic about gender / romance and this situation is getting ridiculous.

It is already ridiculous.

Bioware forum is a gender war.

It's great to see diversity, I love, but it has to be something natural and not imposing the amount of each.

Let's just play the games, people.  :kissing:

As a straight male gamer, I thought both romance partners were great. Only thing that I would have liked was for the selection to be somewhat polar opposites. Like one being pro Chantry and believes in the Maker and the other having another viewpoint (not just religious beliefs but a different flavor for RPING a different character). Needless to say, they weren't bad at all.

I don't understand how people think Sera's cute, appearance wise or worse yet personality wise myself :/

That's one reason I thought Viv would've been cool to have as a LI, since she has some controversial views and a very imposing personality. I'm not all up in arms that she wasn't available as a LI, but it would've been a cool dynamic... especially if you were able to get together while having conflicting viewpoints on Chantry Circles...

I find this amazing in the fact of how i  perceive these subjects in a totally different light, must be cause im a straight male lol

I found Bulls romance an the way it goes to be him giving you space to be you , to relax, have someone to confide in an to basically have somewhere n someone u can sit down an just be you with, there was comedy to be sure, but there was also alot more than that, an to not see that?? mind blown tbh

I always said it would have been hilarious had Bull ever had the opportunity to tell my canon Inquisitor how it would be in their relationship. Ain't no one dominating that particular woman for any reason, ever, and he'd have been at least one horn less for suggesting so.

Don't ask where the horn would have ended up.

Because while some people might be fine with their love interest straight up telling them that they will be the submissive party in a relationship, it's just not gonna work for everyone. :P

I never took it to be submissive in a bad way(even at all tbh) though,i took it as "hey your in charge of this huge organization, daily, when you get home forget about it an relax"

Reminded me of the old dear tbh, i mind she used to rage at me old man "dont you effing bring your work home or i effing kill you, i mean it i got enough sh!t to take care of" ha was great listening to those 2 :D he was a prison warden for years lol

It just another day in my fascination of how something the same can be perceived sooo differently by someone else, be it good or bad :D

IMO, it's hard to imagine someone with the childish personality of Sera to willingly join an organization like the Inquisition. But I guess that's part of her appeal... She goes against the proper/professional personality of most in the group. It was a bit much at first, but I admit, I got a few good laughs with some of the banter between her and others, and she ended up being one of my go to companions.

As far as her appearance, I don't think she was made to be a "hottie". To me, she looks realistic, as with most of the newer companions. Some of the older(from previous games) companions look like mannequins. People like Sera and Josephine look like they were modeled after real people as opposed to someone creating them from a CC screen.

And my point was that you forgot a couple black NPCs. That's it.
