The less predefined the protagonist is, the better. So no, I don't want a set birthday and age.

This.

We've always been able to create older looking characters, but as far as I can tell, Inquisition is the first game they've given us where an age range hasn't been heavily implied or specifically forced on us. I'd like the freedom to play an older character in Andromeda and at least not have my circumstances contradict it.

Like others have said, it depends on the story and PC's career/position but as long as it makes sense within the context of the story I don't mind if it is defined.

That said I think it is more inclusive to leave it undefined, but rather hinted at. That way if you want to play a 16 yr old or a 67 yr old, and you can square that with all the hints in your mind then go for it. Its your play through not mine.

Actually, I think I'd rather give myself my own age; show wrinkles, or not, in CC and roleplay my way through.  It adds to the immersion, especially since I'm amongst the people who play for that, than being assigned an age or age range.

Perhaps I want to be a protege in one play-through, or a somewhere in the middle, in another.  Maybe I'll even be a kick@ss octogenarian in another ;) LOL?  I'd love it to be my choice.

Personally I'd put the age somewhere between late twenties to mid thirties.

Even though I am currently approaching that age range(mid twenties, currently), I've never felt a particular desire to play characters in my own age range. When I was a child and a teen, I actively disliked protagonists who were my own age and preferred series where the protagonist was in that mid twenties to mid thirties age range because that was range where the character had their head out of their own ass for the most part but could still go, physically.

So, yeah, that's just always been the most appealing age range for me, personally.

Well as so many old people say, age is just a number. It is entirely possible to play older characters as though they were younger ones. Some people just have that youthful exuberance about them, regardless of their actual age. This is probably doubly true in a setting like ME, where medical advances keep you younger longer. On the flip side, you could play a character that is more mature than their age would indicate. And of course, being able to set your character's appearance helps a lot. Hell, even in ME1, you could make Shepard look like a recruit fresh out of boot camp or like a grizzled veteran on the verge of retirement, canonical age be damned.

I don't think I would care overmuch if they set an age, as long as it isn't ridiculously young. I like my characters to have had time to build up a reputation and skillset.

I prefer to be a young upstart like between 18 and 24. Then as the series goes on (ME5 and ME6) I would like my protagonist to grow and mature and become more wise.

to be honest, i liked the way ME1 did it, where its a character that lived in that world, but you define their backstroy in quick choices you make early in the game :) thats fine to me, the future is mos important to me, at least when it comes to details and shaping my protag

edit :  but i would like more options than what ME1 gave us. :)

I would prefer they leave the backstory as vague as possible which includes no defined date of birth or age, I generally prefer playing an older more seasoned type of character and giving the character patches of grey and wrinkles doesn't make much sense when they are only supposed to be 25, also would it kill them to give us some proper beards? Thinking along the lines of Joel from Last of Us.
