Is my reputation just one general score that all NPCs judge me by, or does each PC-NPC relationship have its own reputation score?

Example, I have Jaheira, Khalid, Minsc and Imoen. When I invited Dorn in, everybody pitched a fit and console text says my rep went down 2.

Do potential companions stay where  you leave them? Example, will Xan be down in that cave forever being as I didn't take him?

Does Boo do anything? Besides entertain, I mean. He is firmly entrenched in that quick slot, but I don't see that I can use him for anything.

Are you able to have conversations with your companions?

Can I buy scroll tubes, potion boxes and gem bags like Icewind Dale, in this game? The gate to Baldur's Gate is closed to me, so maybe I need a big city, but just curious.

Thank you for any help!

Reputation is how the society views you. Good characters like high reputation, neutral characters (like Jaheira) like neither high nor low reputation and evil characters like low reputation.

In original BG 1, characters stay right where you leave them if you are on good terms with them - if not, they leave forever. If you never talked to a character, then normally they are there for the whole game - exception is Montaron and Xzar and Jaheira and Khalid - if you solve the Nashkel Mines problem without them, they disappear for good.

No containers in original BG 1, but lots of different kinds in BG 2 and Throne of Bhaal.

Boo is strictly there for role play reasons - it has no effect on game play (other than giving Minsc less quick item slots then other characters)

In original BG 1, the NPCs would comment on various things and interact with other party members sometimes but wouldn't have conversations with the player character - that happens in BG 2 and Throne of Bhaal - note some mods give this functionality.

Having both good and evil characters in the same group can get tricky... yes they do offen come to blows in both bg1 and 2.

Your rep score also has an effect on shop sales and what special powers you get as the game goes on... it's worth noting that most npc characters have some quest that needs doing within a certain time or they get upset and will leave for good so in that they do have their own score against you in a way.

To manage to keep evil and good characters (i have minsc and edwin almost everytime), you can use the temple to increase the reputation and the peasant to lower (kill them get -4 reputation).

Around 8-12, they will stay with you

  • fyi if you play on a laptop it's 3 taps on a touch-pad = 2 taps on a mouse
  • make up a story & work out what you could have done different when **** happens... it helps next time.
  • Play good first then play evil but don't assume evil should kill people in public view of the guards... there is a difference between evil and idiot!
