I am having a similar issue; The game runs flawlessly UNTIL I get to the point in the beginning where you have to open the futuristic locker and get the Medi-gel out of it to fix the dudes leg. No matter what I do, nothing happens when I stand near that stupid locker!! It doesnt have a blue square, or anything around it.

I can't progress any further because of this!

This makes me a saaaaaaaaad panda :crying:

Found away around this : target the Red square hit escape and hit escape , once you back in the game the square will turn blue for a second , hit spacebar to interact with the object , it takes timing but once you get use to it it will not evenslow you down anymore.

The solution I found was to go to minimum resolution (800x600) and run in windowed mode. I was looking for the thread to see if there is a better fix yet, but haven't been able to find it. For me, this creates a very small window to play with. :(

I appreciate the info on how you got it to work :) but there is no way I'm going to play the game at that resolution! Also, there is no way to select the Medi-gel locker, there is only a big arrow pointing to the ground in front of it. I also tried the esc, esc, spacebar trick, but nothing happens. Funny thing is that I have 2 Medi-gels in my inventory  already, but when I try to talk to the guy sitting on the floor (he does have the blue/orange reticle around him) he doesn't respond.

This is really messed up that the game has such stupid bugs out of the box...HOWEVER, Dragon Age has been awesome for me from the get go, so I will wait patiently for a week for ME2 to be patched. If I still can't play it...well I'll be really pissed.

I'd be willing to bet this is one of those "EA Games: BIOWARE RELEASE THE GAME NOW! Bioware: But we're not fin...... EA Games: WHO GIVES A SH*T, RELEASE IT NOW!" scenarios.

Same problem here. Really frustrating. I hope something is done to fix it soon. It makes the game almost unplayable (while it runs surprisingly smoothly, especially compared to DAO).

Did it ever get fixed? I never played past the first level because of this bug. I was kind of hoping they had worked out the kinks.

Line up with the object, hit Esc, then hit Esc again, really quickly hit the activate button and it will work. Takes decent timing to get to work, but it has worked every time for me.  Like the poster a few rows up said xD

Are you sure your PC meets the requirements?

These 'bugs' so far have almost exclusively been reported on systems close to the minimum specifications, sorry.

In other words, Gderek, there is not going to be any "fix" from anyone but yourself.  Get a better laptop.  Very simple.

Looking at the rest of the posts in this thread, no one making the complaint ever followed the Correct Reporting Procedures, and almost certainly were in exactly the same boat you are, although some of them might have had the option to upgrade a desktop PC.  Laptops are designed as disposables -- dead ends that cannot upgrade parts other than RAM and storage.

Updates to your video and sound card drivers may be required. Intel  and S3 video devices are not officially supported in Mass Effect 2."

FYI, I've gone looking for threads with the word "door" included in the subject line to find and complete any more, that like this one, had never been answered.

All you have to do is use the unity power by pressing select

That isn't going to help the various hardheads who were talking to each other in this thread, and of whom none had the wit to follow the game's System Requirement warning label.

My computer exceeds all of the system requirements and I have this problem.
Rather than calling people "hard headed", how about not being patronising and ensuring that they're making the mistake you assume they're making.
It is both presumptuous and pretentious.

What are your specs? I'm asking because we've heard that one so many times. At one point a dozen players "exceeded the requirements" and it turned out they had Intel chipsets or entry level GPUs, like the Geforce 9100.

The direct cause of this problem is a slow framerate. If you barely meet the requirements but play at very high resolutions, the framerate will drop making interaction difficult.

There just hasn't been any other primary cause for this symptom to occur, from any complainant.  That's the reason for the sarcasm and the scorn.  Admittedly, bad hardware isn't a 100% situation.  It's possible to have a really badly set up system that has such slow frame rates anyway, in spite of the hardware, but those situations are outside the scope of this forum.  They aren't the game's "fault".
