I had a thought this weekend: creating a set of custom feats that could be used to unlock PrCs for companions. Each of the PrCs has its own requirement 2da file that determine whether a character can take a level in the class. These 2da files include logic that will allow either feat A or feat B to satisfy the requirement. (An example is the use of certain weapon proficiencies for some of the PrCs.) Thus, the new unlock feats could be added to these files as a prerequisite, along with a master override feat that allows access to all PrCs for the PC. (The class icons could be used for the unlock feats.) The game builder then scripts the feat additions to the various companions, allowing them to only take those selected PrCs.

I don't know whether this technique would work with the regular classes.

Well, that's how the OC did some prestige classes for players. The special feat requirements were later removed (see the Shadow Thief of Amn for instance)

I was contemplating whether I could use something along those lines as a way to allow limited re-leveling of companions. I.e. limit the classes available but allow nearly everything else to vary. But to do so, it would also need to work for the main classes so that I can restrict it down to 2-3 choices. Otherwise the characters might not match their own voice-overs or general theme.

It could be interesting to do a test at least...
