I've just realized that the most prominent Companions in the DA games who had major plot content have been mages.

Morrigan-Old God Ritual, Daughter of Flemeth/Mythal

Abders-Destroys Chantry, igniting Mage-Templar War

Solas- The Dread Wolf, possibly responsible for every bad thing to ever happen to the elves. Not to mention the hole 'Orb of Destruction.'

Coincidence?

Coincidence.

That they happen to be mages anyway.

OBJECTION! The whole Landsmeet subplot revolved around Alistair, and the entirety of Act 2 in Dragon Age 2 was set up by Isabela's theft of the Tome of Koslun. Also, Cassandra started the Inquisition and could be made Divine.

A Rogue kills the empress Celene.

A Warrior let the king die in Ostagar

A Rouge kill all the Cousland

A Warrior gets insane and try to kill the Champion of Kirkwall (Meredith)

Isn't everything about the mages -.-

Branka, Samson, Bhelen, etc.

Only one of those people is a companion though, which was OP's point. In all 3 games the Mage companions have generally been the ones to have something big about them.

I'm gonna squint at the mages in the next game like a Templar.

Well.. Alistair (son of a king), Isabela (about the relic), Sten (Says no to everything), Zevran (He tries to kill you), Blackwall (Good lair), Iron Bull (A giant spy)

Everyone have big things.

I know you are talking about how all mages blow up the world, or part of it (Jowan pls) but is because the magic isn't easy. Like the kings who have too much power and destroy his own kingdom, but mages like Wynne... possessed by a spirit...

Velanna :D ... who is aggressive and kills humans.. :(

or.. Irving (?... Who doesn't care for the apprentices...

Merrill

Oh.. well...

There must be a mage who does something good, no?

Cassandra and Leliana founded the Inquisition, Alistair can become King, Isabela stole the Tome of Koslun.

Of course Mages do have an advantage as far as plot importance goes because they can do magic.

When the devs need something screwed up, mages are the easy answer.

It's a fantasy game based on something which we don't have in our world, magic. So obviously, many of the interesting plot points of the game are going to revolve around the fantasy aspect of it. But BW have done a good job with balance. While *some* people tend to believe the only ill-doers in the world are Mages, it equally shows how common ignorance and greed is just as bad. The civil war between Celene and Gaspard. The Qunari invasion due to Isabella not being able to keep her hands to herself. Lord Seeker Lucius, who willingly gave his Templars Red Lyrium and allowed a Envy demon to impersonate him etc.

Unlike Isabela who leaves in the middle of the game.

Yeah but the world has been saved.  Why do they need to stay?  Unless said mage is your BF/GF there is no reason for Morrigan to not bounce after the Archdemon has been defeated.  Heck, if she is pregnant having done the dark ritual you would in theory want her to hole up in a bunker somewhere and not fight. Same with Solas.  He doesn't actually need to stay.

In DA 2 Fenris might decide to bounce on you and hang with the Templars if your approval isn't high enough.. same with Belt Buckle Boy.. er Sebastian. So it's not like Warriors and Rogues don't flake out early either.

Magic is powerful. Powerful enough that it can and often does cause world threatening problems for protagonists to solve.

Because they're "unnatural", at least according to the Chantry.  Who knows, they may even be right.  Mages may be the products of weird ancient Elven alchemy or breeding with spirits or something.

I think you've got it wrong, though.  In the DA 'verse, it's the Elves.  It's always the Elves.
