Better camera work?

Again, one of these threads that doesn't exactly have the right category listed.

With my project, I run a youtube channel with 1073 fans. I love featuring my work, especially tours of areas I built.

Unfortunately, most of these tours consist of me walking around in-game looking at said area, or a still capture of bits of the areas, fading in and out.

I'm probable not wording this right :P But I would like to pan these areas, not doing what said above.

I tend to use the free cam to do the still capture, but say I wanted to pan the camera down a road, or do a 360 circle of the area, freecam in the debugmode is very choppy and unable to do this.

Example:

I was using the freecam, but had to constantly have both hands on the middle mouse wheel to get the zoom out as smooth as possible.

For an example of still capturing w/ the freecam, watch the entire video;

I've always been curious for this for years, my only hope through searching various places, is all about the character camera.

Any information would be helpful!

The conversation camera can do pans and such. For an example in the Trinity module it is used to move smoothly among the trees early on during the game, when the player goes to the first outdoor area. It's still not as good as something like nwn1's gestalt camera system, but nwn2 doesn't have things like that.

That's what I was afraid of :P I guess I'll make do with what's available. Thanks!

I think there was a way to make a camera follow an arbitrary creature. So you could set up an invisible rat and have it follow a walk path.

I haven't managed to get the Pan function in the cutscene conversation working, but it's in there as an option so there must be a way.

I'm pretty sure the cinematic camera in the opening scene of Heist at the Neverwinter Lights Casino was done by parenting the camera to a creature as well.

I use this all the time. Invisible rat, give it a node and camera pans or tracks. Just, you need to destroy the rat at the end so that the player's cursor won't detect it :).

The rat does all the hard work, and how does it get rewarded? It gets destroyed. That's gratitude for you... :rolleyes:
