Maybe Skyhold is taken by the quanaris and we have to leave, for this we cant go to Skyhold.

Yeah , but this gives you an idea about the dlc pacing , by the look of it , we won't have anytime to explore , each eluvian leads to another and before you figure out , you're in front of Solas and the epilogue rolls.

How can it be similar in size to Hakkon and Descent both? I think Hakkon is much bigger than Descent.
I thought the same thing, but it's possible it only feels that way based on how they are structured and what content their content is.

Much more thoroughly, since they wouldn't have to spend time updating the ambient dialogue of the 50 jillion NPCs in Skyhold. We're going to have some kind of home base (they mentioned the Golden Nug hangs out somewhere new in Trespasser). It just won't be the castle.
Maybe we got kicked out of Skyhold. Or maybe we'll have some sweet pad in the Crossroads. Who knows?
That gave me an idea! Perhaps Skyhold gets attacked first, and we have to retreat through the Eluvian to the Crossroads? Or they blow it up with their gunpowder, or Solas uses some ancient magic to blow it up?

I guess something must have happened if Skyhold is inaccessible for the DLC. My best guess is that it was invaded (Trespssed) by the Qunari due to Morrigan's Eluvian.
What I do fine interesting is that the Crossroads do look like the Wellspring with the perpetual haze and bright light and etc
We better get a new stronghold if we lost Skyhold.
