I just have to confirm with others and maybe some people here have the answer, but it looks like I found some unused dialogue to fix something that, for whatever reason, really irked me in ME2.

Femshep always sounds like she's coming onto Jacob, which if you're not planning on having Shepard do that, makes the line really weird. So, I found a line I'm pretty sure doesn't get used in the game; complete with facial animation and the whole deal. The best part; it was a 1 byte change in hex to do it. Granted, it took me a few hours to find that one byte. :D

If anyone does think they've heard the unused dialogue before, let me know. I tested with 6 of my, wow, 14 or 15 Shepards, and always heard the "original" line; 3 male, 3 female.

So, just a little mod but I think I'll have this up on Nexus at some point.

Well, my silly little mod is available for all 12 of you who may want it. Still not sure why that line bugs me so much.

Nope, I've definitely never heard that second line before with any of my 16 or so Shepards.  It's so much better than that needlessly flirtatious tone!  It's always bothered me.

Agreed. But you know the writers had to beat you over the head - "THIS IS YOUR  LOVE INTEREST!" Sexually harass him.

Huh. I always got the second one. Weird. Maybe I stepped on some sort of glitch...? I'll have to see if I can duplicate it then.

Had the same issue with Alenko :whistle: The only way around it is to pick the bottom dialogue options every time. That's of course, if you don't mind a little renegade points.

If you could, let me know if you can duplicate it. I hadn't heard it myself after 14 or 15 trilogy runs but there are insane amount of conditionals in the games.

Both lines are used in the game. I don't have specifics about how to get the second one but I've heard both of them plenty of times.

Interesting. Never heard it myself in 14 or 15 runs. But, that's ok. I'll just route the flirty line to the other and leave the other alone then.

EDIT: @birefringent Do you have any saves on PC I could go through? It's not a huge deal but I cannot figure out how it triggers and another person with 2,000 hours in ME2 said the line was never used. So weird. But all those conditionals...you never know. I thought I had dream 2 all figured out for the "shorter dreams" mod but it turns out it can be more than just Kaidan or Ashley who Shepard will mention. Lots of variables.

Awesome idea! I've never thought of romancing Jacob and it really bothers me Shepard gets all flirty for no reason when I pick that dialogue option.

As far as I'm concerned, I've never heard these lines, but I've only made 3 playthroughs so far. Great find! (Personally, I wouldn't be bothered by it, even if the lines were already used somewhere else. To me, that's a small thing.)

I'm also wondering... Maybe just the "Let's just talk for a bit," would be enough, too? Without the "Unofficial. You and me." (If it's possible to do that.) That would be perfect, I think. I mean, just an idea if you want to hear any. Either way, this is great!

I haven't figured out how to monkey around with the lines like I do for ME3. This was more a stroke of luck than anything and some sleuthing using ME3 tools to show me what to look for. But, who knows what I might figure out?

I can believe people have heard the other line simply because there are a ton of variables. I had never heard it before, but all the info is there. Still, a re-route isn't a big deal to me so I can avoid the flirty sound from Femshep.

I think the best idea would be to eliminate the flirty line and route both avenues to  the non-flirty line. Too bad this doesn't work on the console version.

I tried pulling up my save, and it looks like I'm a bit too far for it. I think what you have to do is say Renegade things to him in the beginning when he's asking things like "do you trust me" say "No." And then when you get to the ship, give mixed answers rather than spam one side or the other. That might be why I kept getting it. I will say that I never have played as a pure paragon or renegade so that might be it. Jacob's dialogue is surprisingly complicated in ME2-- which is why I thought it was the best romance in ME2. It's not just loyalty -> Talk -> Initiate.

Heck, Male Sheps goes in some strange ways if you ask questions in ways: "Sour grapes!?"

Well, I have 1k+ files for all my chars in ME2. Not sure which one would be useful to you.

Well sexually harassing Jacob worked out well for Shepard. Take Mass Effect 3 for example. :P

@birefingent
Thanks for the files offer. You're like me by keeping tons of saves. If it wasn't a hassle, I'd take them all via a file sharing link. But only if it's not a problem. I believe you. Now I'm just curious how the trigger might work.

@YouKnow
I think you're right. I'm either total renegade or ignore the crew or I'm pretty much paragon with the crew. It does seem that the first time you meet Jacob you always get flirty sounding line but even the may not be correct.

Regardless, I still did the mod anyway since I just did not like the line and I heard it too much. :)

EDIT:

@Abraham_uk

I actually romanced Jacob with the entire intent to use CEM and then punch him in the face. Since CEM Full is years after the war is over, I thought it would be insane to still be mad enough to punch him. And she did and it was totally worth it.

I'm not going to upload all of them. They're mine, mine  :P

If I were to guess I would say that it's more of a neutral / renegon dialogue which you should get as long as you don't go full paragon on him. Perhaps being buddies and not showing JT any romantic feelings.

This is puzzling because I always go completely neutral route with him. Zero interest expressed. The only way to make it more neutral would be not talking at all, as far as I'm concerned. I like him as a bro, but that's about it. But it's true I've mostly played paragonish characters so far.

In my latest paragon play through (all missions completed on the save) it seems I hadn't spoken to Jacob since his loyalty mission, or possibly even much before.  Shep did the 'I'm interested in getting to know you better' line, then after that the 'more interested in talking for a bit' line, and he shut her down both times.  Not sure if either of the lines in the vid is more neutral than the other.
