If there's one game Bioware could rip off that I had no problem with, it would be MGS.

If they want to revamp their squad and cover mechanics, they need not look any further than GhostRecon:FS for inspiration. It's the best cover-based shooter on the market (mechanically speaking), and one of the most underrated games of last gen. Whether you enter combat guns blazing or if you take a stealthy approach, the squadmates follow orders better than anything we've seen from Bioware.

Can we turn this to the general combat thoughts thread?

Apples and oranges -- Metal Gear is a different beast entirely from your average chest-high-wall-corridor-shooter like Mass Effect, and while also generally approaching stealth gameplay, if anything, the sense of bigness in terms of exploring planets should return to Mass Effect.. Not that it really matters all that much to me at this point.

Well, unless the lead writer that wrote Halo 4 comes up with an expolration imperative, exploring will be a real pain in the azz, if DAI is anything to go by.
The only idea that comes to mind is the advance tech treasures left by the Remnant race. Getting that tech may be the key to humanity's survival against the Khet.

What Kojima does in MGS series is that he puts choice in gameplay. Not in cutscenes.

You remind me why I love Kojima. He simply doesn't give a damn about others opinions. He does what he wants in his games. American developers are too much politicized by current trends in our society. Japanese people really don't care at all about what our westerner puritans (not in the religious sense) might think.
To OP MGS also proved that an AAA title can play well on console in 1080p with 60fps...no excuses!

Why can't we have choice in Gameplay for Mass Effect as well?

I don't think he does anything anymore.

I think the "fireteam system" needs to be re-done as for the most part your squadmates just kind of follow you around while you do the most of the killing. I would prefer the squad size be increased to four (the standard size of a military fireteam) as it gives you the option to split the squad into 2 two-man teams which can attack an objective from different angles. For example playing as a vanguard you could have two sniper/assault rifle characters take the high ground and provide suppressing fire while you and and another shotgun-wielding squadmate attack the enemy head on at close range.
Just look at any tactical third-person shooter like ghost-recon or SOCOM navy seals to see how its done.
Yeah I've been playing shadowrun returns and I wouldn't mind some of that game play blended into it while keeping it primarily a 3rd person shooter in combat.

ME2 and 3 were little less than your average pop-up shooting gallery, with occasional moments of coming back to the Normandy to play with your train set. Opening up planet exploration will grant it a tangible sense of bigness. Games that feel big without necessarily being big are the ones I like best, sprawly, memorable and open levels like the say.. the Asylum in Arkham 1, Silent Hill in the Silent Hill games, where progression in the game will lead to new doorways and paths being open, where they might not necessarily have been accessible before. The closest example would probably be a Metroidvania style of open world... or like Wind Waker's sailing aspect.
But I don't really care about Mass Effect, I only decided to comment since someone decided to bring up Phantom Pain.

Let's not start throwing rocks when living in glass houses considering that BioWare isn't any better if characters like Samara, EDI or Miranda are to be concerned.

I've been seeing gameplay and reviews from MGSV and quite frankly, the overall gameplay looks great and so does the graphics and the fact that it's open world and 1080p 60fps on consoles is impressive in itself. Now you might ask, what does this have to do with Mass Effect?Well, we know that the combat in the Mass Effect series has been greatly influenced by Gears of War and each new game has shown this but looking at MGSV it looks like Mass Effect Andromeda's combat system has more in common with this combat than it does with Gears of War. It has large levels with vehicles and squad mates while taking into account stealth, action and customization.I don't know how well MGSV actually plays but from what I've seen it looks good and I think it would work well for Mass Effect.
MGSV is more a game with silent kills and fast objectives, also you can jerking around with the guards either with guns or CQC, whatever.
MET however got a lot different gameplay. It is a tense action with guns, techs and biotics and sometimes some hacking, simple puzzles, pushing buttons and most importantly collecting items, loot, distributing skill points and listening every dialogue option you can, that is Mass Effect.
MGSV is a truly patiently written and done video game, the gameplay exponentially reflects this, however it sounds really bad but i can't this tell for any Mass Effect game.
So Mass Effect Trilogy's true potential is the Universe, how inconceivably big is. And the memorable places ( Omega, Illium, The Citadel ) the characters and the background story's, even some villains ( Saren, Benezia ).

What I really like about TPP´s design, is that every mission is just a guideline and can be tackled in many different ways, even more so once your base and item progression reaches certain milestones. Different "companions" - buddies, which have their own equipment tree really add different gameplay options and those expand over time like your own.
But if or what ME:A can take from MGS is really up to what kind of game it will be. Can´t really emulate many things from TPP if it isn´t going to be open-world besides some MAKO tracks. Much of TPP´s greatness comes from the open approach to it´s levels/missions.

The ability to approach quests and objectives in different locations in different ways is what I'm looking for.
Mass effect is class based and Bioware could accomplish this

MGSV's story completely crumbles, there isn't nearly enough narrative content and its entire back half is mostly redoing old missions followed by an ending that was clearly cobbled in last-minute and another ending that was left on the cutting-room floor, which makes an entire major subplot unresolved.
I've been a Metal Gear fan for 17 years, but frankly, I don't want Andromeda going this route in the slightest.

It started when GAF opened its spoiler thread. It won't truly begin until more folks finish the overly-long game, however.

LOL
MGSV has created some buzz with the character Quiet. Apparently, her design is disgusting, according to Halo dev David Ellis....he said "this feels lazy and exploitative.".
Oh please.... Have you seen Cortana in Halo 4?

I've never played any Metal Gear game except for Rising but my roommate owns the Legacy collection and MGSV so I'll get to it. This thread is mainly focusing on gameplay and nothing more.

Who plays MGS for the story? I have played most of their games and I can say most of their stories suck. The game play is where MGS shines.
I am sure you can watch any action oriented Japanese anime and probably get a similar experience to an MGS game.
Oh please.... Have you seen Cortana in Halo 4?

TPP is friggin marvelous. As far as story, they fahk'd up a bit. Not nearly as bad as the RGB, but on the border of that realm. Still, many things Kojima did with MGS and even ZOE would rub off on ME in a good way.
