If you have or are thinking of playing the game in nightmare and solo, no companions say maybe the dog for a stretch,
Which character design would you go for?
Mage with no pots
Warrior low Str
Rogue low Dex and Cun
What character would benifit most by only putting points in con?
Which character would be most fun solo to play

Why would you intentionally gimp yourself? Solo runs, without potions, are common, and very possible with any character, built right. You can solo with a Caster Mage, an Arcane Warrior, an Archery Rogue, a Ranger Rogue, a Backstabbing Rogue, a Dual Wield Warrior, a 2h Warrior, a SnS Warrior, and probably a Archery warrior (haven't seen it though).

Right those all work, but wheres the challenge?
Say Shapshifting mage with only con added?
A Full Cunnng warrior?
Has everything been tried?
I ask because of the all out shapshifting group ongoing

A solo run without potions? Can a sword and shield warrior really go through the entire game without potions? (without excessive reloading?).

Solo run without potions would be a bit tough. Boss battles will get you. I don't know if you can do Uldred with no potions. I have, however, done the entire Circle Tower+Fade without potions, except for Uldred.

Uldred is definitely a tough fight without potions. It wasn't a solo run, just no healers/no pots, and that was probably second hardest after the first Revenant in Brecilian Forest. I had to reload several times to get Uldred before I found the right technique. I can do a lot of bosses with no healing or potions, but that's with the damage and CC from a full group.

You can solo the sloth demon battle with no potions? That is pretty remarkable.

There's two lyrium veins, and you have all the forms to cycle through. Sloth is easier than you'd expect. I think the only challenge would be getting through the first and last forms.

Yeah the first form can chain ram you, so I guess it must be hard if you don't have knockdown immunity. The last form has winter's grasp and I think it has crushing prison too which must be tough going for a solo run with no potions.

Sloth Demon fight is easy solo, like Soteria said, there are Lyrium nodes and the Spirit form has a healing spell, and shifting also heals you. I described in another thread how to deal with the chain knockdowns from the first form, I'm too lazy to post it again here but it's not difficult.
The thing with Uldred for me is that at the level I usually do it at, which is soon after Lothering, he hits too hard for a low level solo character to tank it out with no potions, and you can't kite him because that makes him cast Crushing Prison. So let's say you leave him for later, but then some other boss is going to hit too hard for a low level character.
I've done the defense of Redcliffe solo with no potions at the same level, right after Uldred, but I can't tank Uldred.

Hmm, this vid
seems to indicate that doing it without potions is not consistently an "easy solo"...

He plays it a bit differently than I do, doesn't use the golem form. I've done that fight with 9 different solo characters of every class and spec. I've never used potions and usually 1 shot it, it doesn't feel very hard.

Actually, this is on my to-do list of playable characters. I think it would be very effective because every strike would get the use the most damage or enemy armor may not count at all. I don't know but its worth a serious try. It would be like uber precise stricking.

I've been thinking of a "Jack of all trades" solo, as a warrior. A maximum of four points spent in each of the weapon trees.
So, you might grab Indomitable, Sunder Arms, and Mighty Blow from 2h, Momentum and Dual Striking from Dual Wielding, Shield Defense and Combat Tactics from the Shield tree, and Arrow of Slaying from the archery tree.
It would be like playing as shale, or constantly shapeshifting to change your abilities. Like, switch to 2h for knockdown/stuns, open with AoS, use Dual Wield for DPS, or SnS for defense.
Would be interesting.
I've still got another (not solo) challenge up my sleeve though.

Rogue. Anything that can't be handled solo can be avoided by slipping into Stealth. Plus the ability to sneak up on an enemy position and lay out an in-depth minefield to lure enemies to their doom can be functional AND entertaining.
