Alright so heres my problem, so strap in cause...I don't know how long this will be.

A long time ago when DA:I came out, I was still playing DA2 I was nearly done it too. DA:I came out so I went out and got my copy before they ran out, again I was near the end of DA2 at the time. I wanted to play DA:I SOOO BAD, and I was just entering the last Act in DA2 plus I still had the DLC...I still had so much to do. My time with DA2 was alot of fun, I was playing it for the first time on Nightmare and I was having a good time. Then I had the bright idea was rushing that playthrough, uggh I should have never done that. I put the difficulty on casual and just speedthrough everything even ignoring the side missions and DLC just so I could play DA:I. After finishing the game, I installed DA:I and had my fun with it...that was untill I made this guy **Corypheus** and they started talking about Red Lyrium and I had NO IDEA what was going on (despite me finishing both games in a row.) So in my mind I thought...ok maybe I need to do those missions after all. I uninstalled DA:I and popped in DA2 only to....find out I unintalled the game and deleted everything cause I needed space to install DA:I (course)

I got mad at myself and never picked up the game since, until recently. In the past few months, I've been trying to do another Dragon Age series run. Where I playthrough all the games until I finally reach DA:I :) little did I know how hard that was...I can't even past through DA:O not because it's bad but because of I can't make the right character! I used to have this "Go to" face slider on here. I found it many years back on a forum and I loved it :) I always used that slider whenever I couldn't think of a good character's face. Then Photobucket had to be a D*ck and delete the photos, I even contacted the creator of that slider and he said he can't remember how he made him.

Now I'm stuck here, I can't play DA:O cause I can't make a good/badass looking character. I still need to do DA2 right and NOT rush through things and do the DLC.

My question is...probably---no not probably, some have walked into this game blind. I've seen it before...should I walk into DA:I blind not knowing what happened through the parts I skipped in DA2? or should I keep trying with my Dragon Age series run? (I mean...eventually I SHOULD be able to make something good right?)

I got into Dragon Age through Inquisition. I had Origins before, but I didn't really know how to get into it. Now that I've played and experienced DA:I, it is definitely harder to go back in a series.

Power through it. Dao and da2 aren't super super long games. I mean dao's longer but da2 is about 30 hours. You can totally blast through it in a weekend.

No it's not a matter of how long the games are....it's the matter of I can't even pass through the first game due to character reasons.

Well, if the question is : can you enjoy DAI without having played the previous games, I would answer : yes you can.

My first DA game was Inquisition and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it so much, that I had to do the previous games. Now I've finished them all and I'm in the middle of a second DAI playthrough with the worldstate I set up and I think it's a more satisfying experience.

So to sum up ; you can enjoy DAI (if you do a little reading about what happened in the previous games) without playing DAO or DA II, but you will enjoy it more if you establish your own worldstate by playing all the games. (and if you can't make a good character...make a warrior and put an helmet on! ;) )

Have you tried mods? Hairstyle mods are quite easy to get and apply to DAO and DA2 and they can do a lot for character creation.

And if you really can't, well... you can always go to the Dragon Age Keep and when creating your world state for DAI, you can read on Wiki about things you meet there and won't be familiar with...

DAO is the one I'm having problems with on creature creations. DA2 I don't really mind, I like default Hawke. Sigh I suppose I could just read the wiki it's just...doesn't feel the same then actually doing it you know. (thinking about it.)

I know about Dragon's Keep, I've known about it since day one lol.

Until a cut-scene somes by and I have to look at my gross looking of a character lol. It's just hard, it feels weird jumping into a third game without me playing the past games recently.

Yeah I prefer to play that way too. Setting my history up as I go along through the series into the keep  I've had DAO and DA2 for a while but it took until early this year for me to finally make sense of the mechanics of the game. Since then I've been thoroughly enjoying it and have done 3 complete playthroughs of the series and am now part way through a 4th as I'm near the end of Act 1 of DA2.

The best way to get around this is just make subtle changes to the appearance of your character. Use the default faces and make subtle changes. As I find the more you play around with the settings the uglier they tend to get at least for me. I tend to only change the hairstyle, eye colour, (lip colour if playing as a girl) and that's about it.
