Not sure if this is really the right place to bring this issue up but apologies if not. Anyway I've had Inquisition since launch and still think it's a really solid game from bioware, hell I bought origins and 2 after New Years just so I could experience the journey. Anyway one feature I've been fairly disappointed seen removed from inquisition seen in the previous games is helmets in conversations. By that I mean the close up conversations not the skyrim style ones and yes not all look dashing but after seeing the inquisitor wear that badass helmet in the promo vids and unable to see it in the close up convos and cinematics mad me real sad. Well what do ya folks think, it may be a fairly small thing to fix but there wouldn't be harm for the devs to bring it back right?

Wouldn't work since there's a lot of helmets that cover the entire face so imagine how it would look in a cinematic conversation where the characters shows emotions and such. Would render all the cinematic animation effort useless.

But to have it as an option, well maybe but I still would see it as completely pointless.

Well to be honest and no offence to the devs with the limited resources/time/technology, the facial animations don't look good even on ps4. Having a helmet on during cutscenes can give our inquisitor more personality and practical reason to wear it during certain combat heavy scenarios (Haven, Adament fortress, Abor Wilds ect). Even more salt in the wound, you can turn them off in options and wear them invisibly in gameplay for stat purposes, goes to show that someone high at bioware thought it was cool to discount the work of those that worked on the helmets to not be fully showcased in cutscenes in final game.

They have limited ability to plan around this kind of thing, and, speaking generally, the complaints have centered more around "hide that godawful hat please" than "WHERE DID MY HAT GO?!".  So there's a Hide Helmet toggle but not a Force My Character To Wear The Hat All The Time Toggle.

Plus they try to avoid egregious clipping and many of the hats would cause clipping in the closer-in cutscenes.  So No Hat has higher priority.

Also, if you've ever worn a helmet for any length of time, you pretty much find it impossible to tell what people are saying to you without everyone bellowing.  Heck, I can't hear someone 5 feet away in a quiet room with my headphones on most of the time.  Try having a conversation with someone wearing a motorcycle helmet sometime.  It's friggin annoying.

Granted, that might make for a great scene:

Quizzy: "What's going on?!"

Cullen: "WHAT?!"

Quizzy: "I ASKED WHAT IS GOING ON!!"

Cullen:  "YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT ON THE LAWN?!"

Quizzy:  "THE **** DID YOU JUST SAY?!"

Cullen: "WE DON'T HAVE ANY!"

Quizzy: "TAKE YOUR HELMET OFF, DAMMIT."

I'm grateful they hide the helms during cutscenes.  This is the ONLY reason I would ever have helmets shown.  If showing them meant they were on 100% 24/7 I would never turn them on.

However, it isn't quite accurate to say they are always hidden during cutscenes.  Certain hats seem to show (like Cole's first hat).  It'd be nice if they would give Vivienne's hat the same treatment.  Also, Qunari Vitaar are always shown (which is awesome!!!).

I think it really boils down to the technical constraints of using canned animations during cutscenes. Theoretically... A scene that involves you and your love interest holding each other close and kissing... Would be ridiculous if you were wearing a helmet that covered your face.... I'm sure it could be enabled since you can already wear custom armor, but I'm sure it was a pretty unanimous decision so remove helmets all together rather than trying to make slight variations of each scene so it would make sense with each individual helmet...

Yasss! That Maleficent style Orlesian Hennin looks awesome on her. It seems like it would make sense to have her wear it during scenes since she likes to look all regal and all.

I don't see why you can't have them on as an option. I believe you could in DA:O, though I may be remembering wrong. Hide helmet all the time, hide during conversations, don't hide at all. Perfect. You can't wear them at Skyhold anyway, so it wouldn't make a difference to intimate scenes. You could argue it would be hard to hear people wearing them, but not only do I think that it doesn't really matter since it's an option in a game, but almost all of the helmets and hats do not cover your whole face anyway, so it wouldn't be a problem.

I'd really like to be able to see my Inquisitor wear the Helm of the Inquisitor during at least one cutscene. It's such a waste of an iconic item that was used in almost all of the promotional material to never see yourself wear it except in combat, usually from the back. I would also love it if I could set it between specific party members like in ME1. I'd love to see Cole's hat and Vivienne's hennin all the time. I never understood why so many people are against optional things.

Cole's hat shows because it's part of his 'casual' Skyhold outfit, I'm pretty sure it's hidden elsewhere.

Aside from the Helm of the Inquisitor, none are worth  appearing during cutscenes

For the Inquisitor maybe, but I'd love to see Cole's hat and Vivienne's Hennin 24/7. Possibly Bull's Dread and Blackwall's Griffon helmet. And out of those, only Bull's covers the face.

I'd love to be able to wear my collection of orlesian masks during cutscenes.

What's really weird is the trailers always show the Inquisitor wearing a helmet during cutscenes, yet you can't really do that in your game when you play the same cutscenes.

Right, I forgot about that! In the Winter Palace, it forces you into the red Formal Attire, but it also gives you an orlesian mask in your inventory. That makes perfect sense if you want to use it. But it's quite ironic, because you're locked out of your inventory while walking around, so you can't actually see it in cutscenes or otherwise... *sigh*

What's really weird is the trailers always show the Inquisitor wearing a helment during cutscenes, yet you can't really do that in your game when you play the same cutscenes.

Exactly. It's obviously possible (and numerous NPCs like Wardens wear full helmets in cutscenes, but you're locked out of the same option because reasons.

Player's choice.

I find the disappearing helmets extremely troubling, to the extent that I don't equip helmets.

If I'm wearing a helmet, it should be visible. If it's not visible, I'm not wearing one.

That would be perfect, but that's not how DAO worked.

DAO hid them in conversation most of the time. The way they built the game, helmets were hidden in conversations by default, but that could be overridden by the devs. Unfortunately, overriding it (making helmets visible) required a flag be added to every single line of dialogue for which that was true. This was both labour-intensive and prone to error, so they didn't do it much.
