I think developers prepeare Michel de Chevin as our follower in DA 4. This conclusion has been made by three points: his place as main hero in the book, his knowledge about eluvians and unusual attention to him.

Michel is elven blood chevalier from Masked Empire who saw the eluvian network and in the end of the book  he has left Celene and travels around Thedas for Imshael. In DAI we could end his story and take him as our agent. 

That could possible be the end of it unless we read WOT 2 and see that all secondary characters  with finished storylines have notes. All Masked Empire characters have even their  own pages except for Michel - he is mentioned only in Imshael letter.  That means Michel story isn’t over. In DA 4 we will know more about the eluvians and Michel is one character of four main heroes from the book whom can help us with this: Celene, Gaspard and Briala won’t be useful for this purpose because they could be dead or rule Orlais. By Orlesian laws Michel is criminal whose noble titlewas forged so he has no reason to be in Orlais anymore. Even if we send him to court once again the Emperor or Emperess can command him to help us if we need to make research about eluvians. And we seems need to open their scerets.

First detail to support my thought is that Michel has too many detals about his life in the book to be just throw away after this and I think he is prepeard as the follower just like Cassandra was in her game support content- anime in her case told us more about her life as Seeker.

Second point is that quest with Imsael Inqusitor can make plot twist and send demon to kill him could be easily avoided- demon could just seriously damage Michel in the game.

Third point - Michel has his own voice actor Damian Leech. Too much attention for “just background NPC”, don’t you think?

As the conclusion Michel could show us Cevaliers as faction just like Dorian did that for altus class or Cullen for Templars. We really need somone show us Chevaliers from inside to make Dragon age lore deeper.

Maybe we'd get to have Imshael taking over Michel's body. 10/10.

As much as I like Michel, I'm not sure.  If there was a game to make him a companion, DA:I would've been it.  He's deeply tied into all the stuff going on in Orlais, and has some familiarity with the Eluvians that will play a role in Descent.  Instead, he's a background agent for the Inquisition.  

 

And I think BioWare is trying to steer clear of the "whoops this person didn't really die" problem.  They caught some flak for it over Anders and Leliana.  So if you notice in DA:I, there are very few major characters whom you can actually kill on-screen.  Not even Blackwall; the worst quizzy can do is leave him to the Orlesian justice.  Presumably they execute him, but the devs have started leaving themselves loopholes like that for characters who might come back someday.

To be honest, I'm surprised he was in DAI at all, and I kinda wish he hadn't been. If they'd left him out, they could have saved him for something where he could have had a larger role.

 

There are some folks out there who didn't like him in The Masked Empire, but I did, and very much so. He had so much potential as a character: an intriguing past, a scandalous and dangerous lie with the potential to destroy him, a crippling sense of honor, and just enough flaws to make him interesting. But now, they've gone and tied up his loose ends with minimal fuss or fanfare and very, very little in the way of exposition or explanation. He could have been a compelling as either a companion or even a villain... but no. They made him boring.

 

Part of the problem is that he was introduced in peripheral media, not the game. In a way, that makes him Patrick Weekes's property, but not necessarily BioWare's. It was a lot easier to integrate Cassandra. Yes, she was a character in secondary media, too, but she was first introduced in DA2. She belonged to BioWare in the first place, and the anime just borrowed her for a while. It would have been harder to bring in other characters from that anime (even though I liked both Galyan and Alte better) because they were never BioWare's property to begin with, and they got killed off to simplify things.

 

Sadly, that's what may have happened to poor Michel. I'd like to see him again, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Aside from how he can be dead, I honestly thought he was given a very generic looking appearance in the game. He literally looks like a blonde version of some of the enemies we fight.

Inquisitor kind of stole his fire with the Imshael arc, yeah? I wouldn't be totally averse to another appearance, but my stance on a certain knightly order will remain the same: Chevalier punks f*** off.

 

However, I would like to know the setting and basic story of DA4 before making my final opinion, because depending on the circumstances it just might not be able to accommodate him.

Besides the whole "dead" thing, he can be welcomed back to the Imperial Court by Celene/Gaspard.

There were so many plot points and characters from TME which were just dropped or poorly executed in DAI. I don't think players should be penalized if they don't read secondary materials, but the book writers really need to think ahead and make sure whatever characters and plots they introduce into the books can realistically be incorporated into the games. Briala's eluvian network seems like it would be difficult to incorporate into the game (which is why they didn't bother mentioning it?) and also seems dissonant to much of Morrigan's role, as she makes it sound like the chances of finding a working eluvian are near impossible. She hadn't learned of Briala's network by working in Celene's court? And Corypheus wouldn't try to infiltrate the city elves' network rather than fight ancient elf guardians?

I suspect Morrigan was welcomed into the Imperial Court because of Celene's experience with the eluvian network.

I find it extremely unlikely since he just doesn't seem particularly significant, even taking into account that he was a major figure in one of the novels. I really just don't see an Orlesian half-elf chevalier having anything substantive to do with events in future games if the stories have more to do with the Old Gods and/or magical phenomena in general. Sure, he has a bit of experience with eluvians, but there are other people who know a lot more about eluvians and who are entirely more relevant to the overarching story such as Morrigan.

Agreed, I think he'd be interesting, especially in Tevinter.  But if they're going to have a time skip, he may be an old dude by then.  (Not that some "old dudes" aren't sexy.    )

He's half elven, and hated his elven heritage so badly that he willingly killed elves in cold blood.  Young, old... no matter.  That's murder.  And he did so only to gain power and prestige for himself.  I guess people are impressed by his ability to keep a promise, but even if I didn't play elves, I wouldn't trust the guy enough to wish him in my party.

 

He might or might not be a companion in DA4, if there is a DA4 (which let us hope there will be), but personally I don't want him to be.  I'd rather have Neria, the Keeper from multiplayer--and I don't care for her much either.

Plus his appearance is fairly generic, rather than a unique model, like Briala. Even Gaspard and Celene have unique faces, and they spend most of their time under masks.

 

So in practical terms, I think it really could reasonably go either way.

Well, I don't hate him, but I just don't like him.  I couldn't get past the "probably killed young people for the crime of being elven," thing, especially since half of his own family is elven.  Did they reject him and treat him badly?  I mean I know the human side of things wouldn't have treated him well upon knowing, but still... And he doesn't even seem to have had any regrets about it.  That's the worst part.  Much as I hate what Blackwall did (and much as that made me sour toward Blackwall), Blackwall regretted his actions.

And by the story Imsael should be dead. I mean what reason for Inquisitor should have to let live the demon, whom create red lirium frtom living people? Some players may hate Michel, yes, but this? This says more about them than about Michel.

It's entirely possible to be stabbed in the abdomen and live - the Warden only gets one go with the murder knife before Morrigan falls backwards into the mirror. We can conclude that they didn't hit anything vital and that she was able to stop the bleeding in time and eventually recover.
