Pretty much everything that screamed 'cross-gen compromise'.
So this thread already has that covered, thanks everyone above.
DA4 needs to remember this.
It seems there is no 'protect Skyhold and see all the consequences of your actions with companions, other NPCs, Skyhold upgrades and customization, political decisions, etc'. Another missed opportunity, like how ME3 missed out on having a much more extensive battle for Earth. I have reached the end of my tolerance for this, because it doesn't just make me go 'aw', but actually feels like a section of the 'full game' was cut out for whatever reason. Only 'feels', but nonetheless, I don't like it.
DAI felt like it tried to be a totally new step for Dragon Age, but it ended up, in many ways (story and mechanically), to be a Dragon Age 2...point five. Which is just weird. Open world!... that is still just a little more dynamic than DA2. Romances!... that seem just cut off when they're getting good. Visual gear is back!... but so many copies. Just over and over a feeling of cut cut cut.
Its still a step up overall. I'm not a DAI basher. But DAI definitely speaks "unfulfilled potential" to me. I enjoy it, a LOT of it, but I'm ultimately glad I didn't pay for it (sorry my boyfriend!).
I hope DA4 just 'gets it' and while being in the same general vein as DAI (that being on the same engine most likely, tied to plots starting from DAI, attempting an open world to at least some extent, etc), it sees all those parts that DAI 'half assed' (at least in some way), and does them 'full assed'.
We should never have another Hinterlands (filler, filler everywhere). Or Doom Upon All the World (lackluster finale). These are just two of the biggest offenders.
I just want a Bioware that effing remembers that it can take all my previous decisions and do something awesome with it (DAO, ME2, kinda DA2). In the main game, at the end.
I fully understand you in everything you've said.
I constantly watch the Alpha gameplay looking at the direction the game was headed.
OMG the Crestwood mission was amazing. It showed the world still continued without me being there. It allowed choices the affected more than just one party.
I miss the part were you could set fire to enemy ships so if they want to escape they can't OMG.
The viewing angle was one of the things that really got me ready for inquisition it was a step in a new direction.
THE MAGE AUTO ATTACK ANS HOW THE SPELLS LOOKED OMFG YEEEESSSS I ALMOST DIED WHEN I SAW THOSE BEAUTIFUL THINGS.
The keep customization OMG another amazing feature we didn't get to see.
And I wish they would have keep the AI system from DA2 I loved it.
But then just add the ability to give the companion multiple commands IE. Cassandra walk her then us War Cry and such.
It was a great game it just could have been a group breaking game for the series as a whole bringing it in a new direction.
