However it seems far more common and accepted in Orlias than in Ferelden. Tevintir seems to treat this as a punishable by death thing because there more keeping it men and women only which is why Dorian is elsewhere anyway and away from his dad because Dorians dad was against this and 'tried to change him' (quoted by Dorian) which Dorian hated. Orlias wise it seemed like gay/lez or multiple relationships or affairs are the norm. Celene was only meh about her own relationship because she was afraid of any political backlash. However when exposed it sounded like (if) Celene and Brialla hooked up and wed this gets accepted by most. As far as affairs and multiple relationships Vivianne says it herself she loved her husbands mistress and had 'relations' with her. They were on good terms despite the mistress eventually dieing (I suspect how,why and who). She still loved her husband despite the threesome relationship they had.
Tevinter is not like that. The only thing they're concerned with is preserving magical bloodlines. Quite a few noble houses have married men who at the very least are either gay or bisexual that keep male servants basically as sex slaves to compensate. Marriages are very superficial there. Dorian's dad only cared about Dorian being gay because he refused to marry another woman to continue their bloodline, which is a noble one with high esteem and his family felt it would be tantamount to scandal if it ever reached public. Dorian's dad actually didn't like Blood Magic but was so obsessed with preserving his family's dignity that he attempted to use it.
EDIT: VIvienne also was the Herald's mistress, which isn't frowned upon there, not in love with a mistress.

There may a problem with those plans if his Chargers were sacrificed.

As others have said, it depends on where you rank in the social scale. A Trevelyan inquistor SHOULD face more social pressure to marry someone their family picked out for them compared to say a dwarven inquisitor.
If you think about it, the Trevelyan inquisitor, mage or non-mage (especially the latter) if they are on good relations with their family as some backgrounds are should have letters flying back and forth from Ostwick with marriage proposals. Depending on how high the Montilyet family (Josephine's family), they would welcome a marriage between a male inquisitor and Josephine but be very, very unhappy with a female inquisitor marrying Josephine.
The chantry itself probably doesn't give two figs about it, but the Trevelyan family definitely should care....especially given in Dragon AGe how much bloodline/heirs and political alliances are mentioned....but then again, this WOULD take away from the player and be seen as a negative for picking human (although I actually think this would be cool).

Antivans apparently pick their heirs by merit, not by birth order, so there should be slightly less pressure to pop out litters ... provided at least one of Josie's siblings gets around to doing that duty and manages to produce something less flightly than themselves. ![]()
Before Trespasser essentially turned the Inquisitor into more or less of a pariah, a formal alliance with her/him would have been so prestigious that it would probably have outweighed all other concerns. Now, I suppose s/he is lucky to be accepted by Josie's family despite all the distrust, hate, blame and fear.

It actually would have been really funny if as a Trevelyan (and maybe less so for others), you got more and more marriage proposal letters as you went on. I always thought your writing desk in your quarters should have had letters from various people, especially your family, like in Hawke's estate. Missed opportunity there. (Also, the room itself isn't that useful. At least the wardrobe is there now.)
And it is very odd that more conversations about the future of your relationships don't happen. For Josephine, every combination besides a human male rogue or warrior should get at least some level of concern from a family like Josephine's.

I guess Skyhold can always use more kindling, and Varric more material for his origami-folding or whatever it was he uses the Merchants' Guild letters for.
My (asexual/aromantic) Inquisitor would swear a public oath of celibacy ASAP with Mother Giselle and both Hands of the late Divine as her witnesses.

I would have loved my room to have a mailbox.
There were several things/areas of Skyhold that were underutilized.
The blacksmith area could have been a cool place to learn/customize schematics.
The library was.. wtf was the library?
Downstairs room could have been for something.
Empty rooms that customization and Skyhold growth could have increased utility of.
DAI feels sometimes like a streamlined RPG in the casing of something that could have been more complex and grand.
Good-the-hell-bye to last gen consoles.

When I saw Cullen and Sera could get married to the Inq I was immediately reminded of this thread and some of the people argueing that marriage was only for political reasons in Thedas, which seemed reasonable.
...

What hidden political agenda are those two planning?

I'd already finished Trespasser when I posted that so it wasn't speculation
(I would never and have never sacrificed the chargers on any character so everything's sunshine and roses for me

I ruined it by looking at spoiler threads and Youtube. Good thing to because he always came with me in adventures and he had some killer equipment that I crafted for him.

re: Antiva
Remember that Fergus in Origins actually was setup with Oriana BECAUSE it was considered a good match. Antiva struck me as somewhere where marriage is all about the alliance the higher you go in the social ladder.

Yes, same-gender marriage does exist in Thedas. You can get married to Sera in the Trespasser DLC!
Although I noticed that with both the marriages the idea was that nobody would try to stop you because you are the Inquisitor, the Inquisitor can even say that marriage generally has nothing to do with love when Sera proposes. So i guess it's just a, not forbidden but unlikely that anyone who isn't a crazy elf would even consider it type of deal.

Regardless of whether the setting needed gay marriage or not, it has it now. At least for crazy elves and their Inquisitor lady loves

I have a femQunari Inquisitor romancing IB. I look forward to Trespasser with her as she sacrificed the Chargers ![]()
More on topic: the same-sex marriage thing has already proven to exist in some shape or form pretty much throughout Thedas.
