I mean, it seems highly inconsistent with it's damage. Just recently I had one wraith shoot me on perilous (at 900 hp) for 100. Then it ticked me to death in three stages, meaning it ticked then stopped then ticked again. Now I guess because I was standing still or some such that may of contributed. One wraith, one shot. Not the wraith shooting me multiple times. Just once. Now I've survived being hit by fire wraith ticks on nightmare, but I guess not on perilous where fire burns hot.

Is there some way to negate it besides the obvious don't get hit? Like the frost's dragon freeze where if ya stand too long you'll end up a statue.

Fast... Very Fast...

But more seriously...

A fire resist potion is always good. It last for the duration of a round, but on Perilous and lower you'll get Fire Wraiths on the first 2 rounds only so you're covered. I think you can get Fire Wraith on later rounds on Nightmare, but at that point a teammate could have fire resist too, it's not like we're missing any of those at that point...

Another solution would be to always have an ability that negates it. On Warriors, you get Combat Roll. On Rogues, Elusives and Stealth. On Mages, Fade Step and Fade Cloak.

A lot of willpower (promotions) helps a lot too.

Finally, you can get Fire Resist armor upgrades. If you don't have any, the Magic Defense is usually available, except maybe Mages?

Hm, I didn't know that combat roll clears burning. Thanks for the tip, but I'm more interested in the mechanics. As I said in the op, the damage is inconsistent. Sometimes the burn only takes out a third of my hp. Sometimes it just burns me to death. And I'm not playing different classes here with different hp. Before an..incident today, I believed that burning lasted as long as the hits you took. Say you where hit by a fire wraith twice, then there'd be 2 periods in which damage ticks very fast on you and stops. So it'd do tick tick, pause, tick, tick. Yet today I was hit just once, and there were three periods of ticks on me, which killed me. It ticked me off so much I rage-quit the lobby.

Some classes have inherent defense or resist against magic (even buffing for allies), and there's other ways to debuff the enemy as well. You wouldn't need to be a different hp to get different results.

Incorrectly. Fire dot damage is something they haven't figured out how to code properly.

Exactly this. Sometimes it will hit 5 times per tick, sometimes once. Another mechanic that can be chalked up as working as intended.

They shoot you, you scream like a school girl it's as simple as that.  Even promotion lords scream.

Not very well against guard.  My mages have Yvanalis on permanently.  (If I even spelled that correctly)

I get quite a few messages about how I am getting guard on a mage.
