Since we've got a "Characters that won you over" thread, I thought we could use the opposite as well.

What characters did you initially like, but came to dislike? For me, the main two are Liara and Legion. The first's personality shift in ME2 and ME3 really broke her otherwise-enjoyable character for me, and placing her as the Shadow Broker would have been funny if it weren't so sad.

Legion took some forum reading, but once I figured out just how much he lied to and manipulated Shepard (coupled with realizing the difference between ME2 and ME3 Legion), he swiftly lost my admiration.

Well, for Liara, it's understandable. You did die for 2 years since the destruction of the first Normandy. People change within that time frame. Liara's personality became more cold and she became more self-reliant. I don't think I can blame her at all for being the way she is in ME2-3.

If I dislike anyone from 2-3, it'd be Hackett.

Legion definitely.

Also Jack. Her ME3 personality is naff compared to her ME2 one, really toned her down.

Shepard. Trying to add more emotion to Shepard was a bad choice. (Some fans got what they thought they wanted.)

Maybe Liara? I liked her at first in ME1, but subsequent playthroughs made me dislike her a bit, mostly because she ninja-romanced one of my Shepards even though I am positive I told her I was not interested ... but she is still the best squadmate to have on all missions except the Luna mission. Because biotics are overpowered in ME1.

Ashley Williams. I liked her in the first Mass Effect but not so much in the third one.

Joker probably.  There really aren't that many options.  (Joker, Shepard, Chakwas, Anderson, Udina, Hacket, Ashley/Kaiden, Tali, Garrus, Wrex, Liara, The Fan)  Other characters appear in one game and then have a token part in one of the others like Zaeed, Kasumi, Miranda etc.

But maybe you meant what character did you like the first dozen times you played and then disliked that character the more you played the game.  Ashley would fit that criteria in ME1.

Well, the only characters I do not like are Jacob, Samara, and Liara, and I never much liked them at any point.

I think Ashley was the best - or at least the most believable - squadmate in Mass Effect 1, but it went downhill after that point.

Dishonorable Mention: Joker, Garrus and Jack

Shepard, too. If I can´t get sad or mad about shooting abducted and brainwashed civilians, I don´t want to get auto sad about "losing" against the air support of a space ninja.

I guess Jacob. I actually enjoyed his no-frills straightforwardness in ME2, though talking to him with a FemShep was not that pleasant, but then he turned into an even bigger cornball in ME3. When he told Shepard that the Normandy was her true love, the rest of his cool points flew out the window. The heck kind of statement is that? Jacob didn't have the history with Shepard to make that kind of assumption XD

As the game progressed I lost interest in Tali. I don't hate her but dear God she is so booooring by the end of ME3. If she wasn't part of SR1 I would have never bothered with her, as the trilogy was progressing she was becoming more dull and boring.

While I don't dislike her as a character, I'm not fond of the way BioWare tries to force Liara upon you. I'm playing a game that's supposedly about choices and then here comes Liara practically waving a sign that says "Look at me! I'm so much more important than the other guys!".

Being romantically involved with a character changed my perspective and not always for the better. Liara is the only character who provides this option in all three games and only if you have the ME2 Shadow Broker DLC.

Tali was kind of a downer. I was really looking forward to see how she would react in ME 3. All the flirting dialogue aboard the geth dreadnought seemed too weird. Strangely, if you brought Garrus along as a team member, I found her comments amusing (turian chocolate, "couldn't find a gun your size").

Wreav. I liked him in ME2, but they turned him into the cliched Krogan bad guy in 3.

Although he does have some awesome dialogue . Tool or not.

"Krogan don't generally voice opinions, we just crush anyone else who has one [sic]."

Alright, but apart from that
and Barla Von's shadow brokers' squad
the Asari second fleet
the shadow broker intel
the sex across 3 episodes
the 5000 credits she gave you on Illium
and saving your ass a few times with her biotics.
then writing you name in the stars
What has Liara really ever done for Shepard?

Except she's able to do most of this 'cause she's the shadow broker, and let's face it. She only became the Shadow Broker because she had plot armor stronger than a fully-upgraded Sentinel. Liara's Bioware's pet; of course she'd be able to do important things.

Sadly this is true. I like Liara, but not how Bioware uses her.

Liara is forced on the player on way to many occasions.

When you don't have a romance, Liara takes the spot that would normally be taken by your romance.

She asks to be in a relationship like 2-3 times.

She is really intimate with Shepard even when you're not romancing her.

It's very easy to accidentally romance her. In ME1, when I was playing full Renegade, I showed disinterest in her, was mean to her and pretty much said her species was disgusting, yet the romance happened anyways. When the sex scene arrived, I turned her down and made her leave my cabin. Then in ME2 they act as a happy couple and all and I was disgusted by it.

Garrus.

Spoiler

My Shepard would throw your skanky *ss Shepard out of the airlock and then go have a few beers with Garrus and laugh about it.  Buh bye.  *high fives Garrus*  "Scratch one!"  "One less to worry about!"

Garrus - I used to think that he is that cool space-Batman on Omega, but then it hit me that he is really childish, like his in midlife crisis or something. There's something in him that stops me from taking him seriously, as if his entire life was cosplay "how I imagine being badass".
Krogans in general - on my first run ME-ME2-ME3 I liked them a lot i gladly cure genophage; maybe I grow cynical, but lately I found myself unable to believe that it would bring any good. Krogans won't change, I don't believe that, and they new Krogan Wars will happen. My dislike applies also to Grunt, who is basically cunning animal with no moral sense whatsoever, and Wrex, who get dumbed down in ME3 - I mean, his aggression and barking around to salarians and turians make him look stupid: how can those oppresing salarians not see that krogans are poor I'LL EAT YOUR LIVER OUT!

Dude, what the hell? If you disagree with something, express that disagreement with sensible arguments, not butthurt attacks and disgusting insults. Your response pretty much just says you're a person of poor character that's sensitive as frig about somebody disliking your darling turian bebeh and nothing more. You haven't given her a single reason why she's, in your opinion, wrong. You just threw a fit. Chill the heck out.

My Shepard would hold on to the ship and hack her way back inside and pick up her Black Widow and turn your Shepard's brain into fancy wall decoration and kick the freeloading imperialist racist scum out via the trash compactor.

"Crap. Wrex! I didn't ask them how the sex works for them. Oh wait, loads of itching, burning welts and watery pustules when the cloaca rubbed......."

Well my Shepard would grab both your Shepards and make them kiss!

In any case, it's too bad that Garrus can feel a bit underdeveloped because of this. I mean, he will apologize to Tali at some point, yet somehow I never quite feel that the character grows much.
