Should the Hero of Thedas be an archer?

No. The herald should have been a crossbow wielder.

 

Still soar about that one eh? There's always a chance for DA4  :wizard:

Yes...a bit. I'm one of those who wishes that they'd return to a more origins like system. A rogue/warrior can alternate between ranged and melee with a quick swap, and the warrior can fight with any weapon. I'm also one of the few who liked the showy, whirling combat in DA2. DAI didn't include any of those elements, and I was generally bored by it's combat.

I'm trying to resign myself to this simpler, admittedly more accessible system, but I do hold out hope for crossbows.

Oh god, do I miss the weapons swap tab, back in DAO used to outfit everyone with melee and ranged weapons. I also miss my mage actually being able to use a sword :(

Uhm, having played mostly as a mage-inquisitor I haven't really noticed it, apart for the lack of staff melee animations. Then again I always thought DA2's combat was a bit too showy.
