No more DLCs for the PS3?

As a Playstation 3 user, I'm extremely upset at the announcement that there will be no more DLC content made for the Playstation 3 or the Xbox. I understand that it's difficult to make new content for older systems, and that companies like Bioware and EA want to move forward, but I can't possibly understand how anyone can justify making plot-important content like Trespasser and The Descent without making it available for everyone. I'm a college student, so I don't have the money for a Playstation 4, and even if I managed to get one, I can't transfer game information across systems, so I'd have to start from the beginning.

Please, I'm asking you as a dedicated fan to reconsider your decision. I want to continue supporting the Dragon Age franchise, but the limitations of my playing experience has disheartened me considerably, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one who's disappointed in that decision. Even if you have to charge PS3 players more for DLC content, it would be better than not being able to play it at all.

I don't think the PS3 could even run the new DLCs. It would choke on Descent, for sure.

It's a crappy situation. But you can transfer your content to the PS4. They created a tool to do just that.

You'd still have to get a new copy of the game, though.

How would that even work, though? I can't imagine it would be a smooth transition between a Playstation 3 and a Playstation 4.

Edit: I looked up the possibility, and game data doesn't carry over to the newer system. So transferring game content, like the 120+ hours I've logged into the game, won't work. So I'm back to square one.

They call it a save transfer, so It should.

I can't seek out the link at the moment, unfortunately, but I'm almost certain that it will transfer your save file and your DLC.

DLC isn't transfered but there's a cross-buy thingy that apparently gives it to you.

That would make sense on PSN. If that's the case, though, then I'm pretty sure it gets transferred, or credited, on Live, since I don't think there's a cross buy option there.

My guess is this is an economic decision: there are likely not enough PS3 DA:I players to cover the cost of developing (or porting) content to run on last-gen systems.  It sucks, but that's they way it is.  Frankly, I'd be happy that I got to play the latest greatest Bioware game on an eight-year-old system.  Try doing that on a PC.  :)

I have a hard time believing that, considering they're still allowing PC players to access the new DLC content.

I'll check again but I think that will only work between a Playstation 4 and another Playstation 4. Considering the PS4 isn't backwards-compatible I don't think it will ever be possible to transfer a save file from an older system to a newer system.

I think what he meant was that an 8-year-old PC wouldn't be able to run DA:I while PS3 is able to.

It's rather simple, tbh.  From what I remember, if you have the Black Emporium installed on PS3 and PS4, all you have to do is go there with one of your Inquisitors on PS3, save there, then go over to your PS4 and I think you should get a notification about there being a save being available to be imported.  It works on 360 and XBONE too.  You can only do one save at a time, though, but it also lets you import your DA MP progress (which is linked to your platform as well as your account).

The thing is, you have to get DA:I again, on top of getting a PS4, which seems to be an issue that most people have with the decision.  As for me, my main issue with it is that we weren't given a heads up about the possibility of DLC support being dropped on last-gen (fellow PS3 player here).

I simply don't have the money to get a PS4, and even if I did, I doubt I'd get it right away, anyway.  It's just not cost-effective for me to buy a brand new system only to play 1-2 games on it.

You both are awesome, I searched the Inquisition page but somehow didn't find that information at all. I'm really glad to hear Bioware is aware that old-gen users will be upset at the decision (I wasn't sure for a bit there), so even though I agree that buying a ps4 just for one or two games isn't cost-effective, it's still good to know that if I eventually do get a playstation 4, I'll be able to transfer my data over.

Sorry for my earlier replies, I didn't actually think it would be possible for data to save across systems. I guess I'm still not accustomed to cloud-based servers or however that kind of thing works.
