Not to mention (although private parts were colliding, none of them were the player's and thus it counts.):

Gah!  After ALLLLL of those playthroughs, how did I never get this dialogue???  Crap.  Time to load it up again.... :P

Personally, I wouldn't mind if it was done like ME2; regardless of whether you got along with companions or not, do their loyalty mission and they will follow you regardless of personal feelings.

I agree :) So far I've preferred the way ME does relationships/friendships to the way DA does them (I hate friendship/rivalry). I have so much less anxiety when playing ME. I also felt my renegade Shep never really did anything awful enough to make some of his friends up and leave him, or to make his love interest no longer be interested in him. (Why ME benefits from a tighter, more predefined character.)

Hm... I believe the main points for ME:A is:

Exploration, action, adventure, team bonding and finally LIs.

Gee, I hope not. Cause that's a terrifying list of priorities! (But I just know we're going to have DA:I 2.0, I just know it....)

I just don't want anything like Jack, where you missed out on a lot of character information if you are not in a romance with them. But thinking back on it, that could be because the cast was a bit excessive.

So...OP what did you think of the latest Fantastic Four?

Tali would've been a good platonic romance. I think she really should've been one, since it would've made sense for her character (and her species).

but then we'd have missed out on the truly disturbing side of BSN

I dare not think of how this forum would suffer in its absence.

Romance is in the top 3 options of every single Bioware game, and the top option for every Mass Effect game.  It is, arguably, their strongest selling point.

You're drawing a direct parallel between Google search terms used and what reasons people have for buying things. While there are likely to be a few different connections between the two, claiming that Google's results represent some kind of majority opinion about sales is utterly baseless.

One of the most common autofill search terms on the internet is Wikipedia, and it isn't because that's what people want to buy.

Oh in the name of the Goddess not another 'lets lose the relationships that leads to sex/romance' thread... the reason most people were so engaged with the ME universe was not the  combat mechanics, or the tried and very well tested hero/a has to save the universe type storyline... but the relationships that we had in game and the storyline that allowed them to be so important...  the seriously well drawn characters that with only relatively few lines of dialogue and 'convo' screen time were fleshed out enough for us to project even bigger personalities onto them...

There is a reason that Citadel was so successful and loved and although the tongue in cheek romp with our evil clone was fun and full of in jokes but the party that rounded off all our major relationships was what mattered...

This is the only comment I'm making on this thread as its important not to keep feeding the same tired old questions on relationships but its important that those of us who love this unique selling point of the ME universe speak up at least once to make sure Bioware hear the satisfied customers... always happy for development and improvement but really as someone has already said lets not go backwards...

I have nothing against romances, in fact they are part of the reason why I have multiple play-through's. I should not have brought up resources, I only did because some love to through that word around to shoot down ideas. My main want is for slightly more content and depth in platonic relationships, and no more situations like Jack where character development is behind romance. And that's not to say that I don't like certain information about characters having to unlocked through romance, in fact I like it most of the time, as long as it's not something that could be also said while being in a friendship or even a rivalry.

I am not anti-romance, at all.

Wow, what kind of stuff gets revealed if you romance Jack? I wasn't aware of this!

So i'm guessing you know all these players personally? :P

I don't have to. BW's metrics were rather extensive, and romance isn't even in the top three draws for the series as a franchise.

Several thousand forumgoers =/= 5 million consumers or even a statistical curve thereof. But of course you'll probably ignore the romance threads were upkept by the same 30-50 people posting over and over.

Interestingly enough, I work in wine sales, and there's a direct correlation between google searches and U.S. sales by varietal.  The three most popular searches - Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon - are the three biggest selling varietals.

I'm open to new statistics.  Please, I'd love to see anything Bioware has produced statistically that relates to romances.

Many have complained in previous ME games about interactions with some crew members being severely lacking when not romanced. This should not happen in ME:A, if "resources" are an issue then they should cut the romances (not completely) in favour of them.

While I guess this counts for ME1 and 2 to a certain extent, ME3 has done an outstanding job with friendship paths imo. I have both done a playthrough where I romanced no one in ME1+2, and currently I have no romance in ME3 and the interactions didn't suffer that much in ME1+2, and even less in ME3. You can still build great friendships with people, even when not romancing, as you have a lot of interactions with the characters. So I hope they keep it up like in ME3, I really liked that.

I'm not in favor of cutting romances for those that like to play them (I do, too, very much so), but I would be in favor of rivalries, as I greatly enjoyed the few scenes where characters don't kiss your feet the whole time and actually tell you when they think you're wrong (had that with Kaidan and James).

Something similar like DA2. I really wouldn't mind at all :)
