...but which class and, above all, which role will he have?

I like the idea of a 2 bladed bearded little scoundrel...but I'm still not entirely sure of the party nor the exact role I wish to play. If any of you guys has been playing with a dwarf rogue, can you enlighten me? Which spec did you opt for? I'd like the artificier more than assassin... it kinda sounds to me like jack of all trades.... a dwarf that can handle every situation, but I couldn't use the hail!! :( So...I'm open to suggestions!

I choose to play as a dwarven rogue, specifically an archer with tempest specialization. At first it's a little weird running into combat as an archer, but once you get the hang of it, it works surprisingly well.

Spec him/her after Sandal, you can't go wrong with that.

Hahaha... I'll walk around with my "enchantment" war cry!!! seriously... I don't know about the archer... Doesn't it look strange for a dwarf?

Except for the Leaping Shot animation, not really. I also have a dual wielding assassin Qunari, which might be on of my favorites, so you can't go wrong either way with your dwarf.

And who shall I bring along? Suggestions?

My dwarf usually brings Cassandra (good tank), Vivienne mainly because of her Knight Enchanter spec, and Iron Bull because I like having two warriors in the party. My Qunari is about the same, except for bringing Sera instead of Bull, to mix things up. Hope this helps!

Sure it helps! I would like to romance cassie, as this is my second run and in the first I went with josephine... I never brought bull around... I hear the he's a war machine..

My dwarf romanced cassie, her romance apparently isn't for everyone, there's been a million threads about it, but I thought it was good. I also like bull and cassandra's banter, good stuff.

...which role will he have?

I'm sure whatever role he has will be a short one.

Sorry, it was just far too delicious opportunity to pass. :?

I can't imagine a dwarf in inquisition being anything other than a DW rogue because of background. Other than my personal bias, do whatever you think fits best.

Also, @above:

Well it's a karta dwarf so surely not a knight in shining armor prototype I was thinking of the 2w dwarf just because of this and the fact that cole is the only one available and I find him rather... Annoying to bring along... Which spec would you give him? Assassin?

That's my idea as well- next character a dwarf that will romance Cassandra. I decided on 2-hander though- looks great on a burly dwarf male to swing a maul especially. For a dual-wield rogue I'll be using a dwarf female because of how great the animation tends to be. At least it was in DAO. The dwarf height looks better for daggers and dancing lithely around targets than, say, a huge leaping qunari. Bows look better on elves. (Opine, opine, opine...)

I want to find out if there is any special dialog with Varric being a dwarf, but best companions at any given time depends on how you're playing your character- pro-mage or pro-templar, jerk or nice, religious/ not-religious, which areas you're going to, etc.

Again, that is really up to you. Artificer if you want to give him something with tricks and traps (like a more detailed backstory thing or something) or assassin if looking for the stealthy knife in the shadows. Tempest to if you want.

Unfortunately, I don't remember a lot of dwarf specific dialogue with varric. There is a surprising amount of dwarf dialogue with cass, however. Especially if you use the "snarky" responses from the wheel.

I played a dwarven rogue archer/assassin but Artificer/duelweild works well, its just a bit more circumstantial than the other specs. Although I respecced Sera as a Duel Weild and with Tempest she was a beast. Add in armor that has her build guard and she was almost as good a tank as Cassandra.

Varric sadly has next to no dwarf dialogue. As for companions, bring Cass as your LI, obviously, and as a mage? Personally I prefer Vivienne as my mage because Knight Enchanter rocks and suits a healing role, but if you go with artificer who helps allies who critical hit, either Solas (who is more about weakening and damaging the weakenened) or Dorian (just kill them, as fast as possible) may work better. You might want another rogue if you have an artificer as they are more likely to crit. But not varric, you probably don't want 2 artificers, although everyone will crit more, lol.

I really think the best build for a duelweild is Tempest. Slowing down time to kill people dead is amazing, and I found the assassin tree less than ideal for my archer due to Mark of death counting on lots of hits to be a really effective (although when the whole party was on a boss it was a bit glorious). Also having one potion after another is really deadly and stacks. Archers do a lot of damage but less fun to play.

So as another rogue Cole as an assassin respecced as an archer could slay, especially if you put mark of death on your target while you increase his crit range. Or heck 2, duel weild never killed anyone, and an assassin could use those buffs from artificer.

So, if I want to go dual wield, the "best" config 'd be: Me, Cass, Vivienne, and another rogue between Sera and Cole? I've already been with Cole...so I'd go Sera... unless I can bring Bull to effectiveness...

Another question is... I noticed I can put on AOE daggers... are they good? Never tried...

AOE daggers are OK, but I preferred the single-target ones for higher bust damage against individual enemies. The strength of the dual-dagger rogue is really the ability to swiftly tear down a single foe before they can turn around and kill you.

If you're playing an Artificer, take Sera. If you're a Tempest, Varric might be a good choice ... although I imagine two Tempests would just kick twice the amount of arse :D . Also, do not take the Bull if you're playing a dual-wielding rogue and want Friendly Fire to be turned on, unless you want to spend a lot of time flat on your back. (Heck, even Cassandra can easily kill you if you give her Charging Bull and don't watch her closely enough. My dwarf dagger rogue's leading cause of death was her own party.)

I'd like to take Artificier, as I'd like to be that "jack of all trades" I spoke of some posts ago. Even "lore-wise" I mean... But not being able to use a Concentration ability just sucks.... I don't play friendly fire, so Iron Bull won't be an issue...but...1 - Is he strong? 2-Does he have an interesting story?

1)Honestly, statwise they are all the same except for their Specialization, he has a lot of take damage to do damage abilities since he is basically a Reaver. I personally am less fond but many people adore it. 2) An Amazing interesting story. He has an interesting view of things and is way more balanced than he seems. I really like him and he became one of my favorite companions because of his complexity. Did you never talk to him the first time?

And basically the other rogue is because you increase and benefit from crits within the party. Usually rogues crit more because it is their thing. So a duelweilding rogue works well on top of your tank and healer, but you are talking about statwise, most interesting is way more subjective.

Take who you want. Really any disparity is usually easy to overcome by getting more gear/ exploring more. And it is cool to take who you like. If you want MY order of who I find has an interesting story here it is, but its pretty darn subjective.

1) Iron Bull, (especially since your decision has a more lasting impact on him. He has a story, and its tied into the Inquisition)

2) Blackwall (One of my least favorite, but he has a story that you can take some involvement in)

3) Cole (Coles story was told somewhere else, but deciding a lasting impact on a character and having a story puts him up there)

4) Dorian (He has a story but its short, he has complex feelings about Tevinter, intimacy, and his dad, but a funny character, has a story)

5)Solas (Um he is very important to the game but only after the game is over. Solas friends to spirits has a Theme if not a story by the end of the game)

6) Sera (My romance, she doesn't make much sense including her backstory. I don't think you are supposed to understand, but she has one.)

7) Vivienne (Another character I loved and we are told practically nothing about, she doesn't really have a story, but tiny backstory)

8) Cassandra (I love her, took her everywhere, but she is constantly down playing her past, and her story with the Seekers is meh)

9) Varric (Really he doesn't have a story, it was told. He is friends with Hawke, and doesn't know how to be with you, thats his story)

Ok, so...

I need a tank. Shall it be Cassie or Blackie? :) I already took her on my first run with Qun Mage, but didn't romance her. Do you think it'd be possible to romance her even if I don't always take her out?

Then... I'm the rogue. DW dwarf, supposedly Artificier, but not completely convinced....

Then Iron Bull... or will his close quarter fighting be redundant?

Mage...either Dorian or Viv... I was going Viv 'cause of the KE... but don't know...

I have a dwarf rogue, and he's goes for artificer. Despite the assassin specialization have some of the better powers, the artificer does not disappoint. The focus power is more OP than any other focus power, and the ability to decrease cooldown after anyone including yourself gets a critical chance makes yourself even more versatile. The elemental bombs are a must for crowd control. Artificer is probably the best for me. Alchemist or whatever Sera's is isn't that useful for me, but that's just me.

No wait.... I must have missed something...

Can I use the focus ability without a bow? :o

I don't think it does anything if you don't have a bow since it clearly states that it doubles the amount of hits for every bow attack. It's useful for Dragons and very difficult enemies, and so, if you want to use the Artificer specialization, you have to consider switching between daggers and bows. I mainly stick with Daggers, but I know how to use bows since I play Varric a lot too. You don't always need to use your Inquisitor to benefit from Artificer.
