I wouldn't know.

plus there is a whole class/strategy/build section. You would think that would be the place to go.

Most long time fans already have a favorite class.

Mine changed. Started with Infiltrator, but now is Sentinel. Like all of them except Soldier; not as versatile.

And I remember when RPG's only used d6's; before polyhedral die were available. :D

Sentinels FTW! What I mean is that most long time fans won't start a thread asking others what class to play because they will have already chosen something.

I was all for Infiltrators until after replaying ME3 a number of times. But after trying all the classes, the Sentinel offered the most variety for my own playstyle. And then there were the two Sentinels on the Arcade stairway on the Citadel DLC that sealed the deal! Tech Armor FTW!

this is how I know you're just trying to bait me. You're here long enough to know better. The culture pushed by the Bioware fandom is partly why I feel awkward when people ask me if I'm into RPGs, the awkwardness started with the fox news controversy over ME1s lesbian romance with liara. And then 20 million kids called each others mum a ****** in CoD, Anita Sarkeesian was verbally assaulted to the point of becoming a huge name, and between then and ME1 a few other lesser humiliations happened.

Not really sure if I'm following your logic.  Yes, Bioware fans spend a lot of time discussing romances (both sides of the argument).  Not seeing a connection to this topic and CoD or Sarkeesian, though.  I'm just not sure what prompted you to post this at this particular time in this particular sub-forum.  Besides your thread, there are only 4 romance threads on the first two pages.  That means that, total, there are 5 threads about romances out of 60 (including yours).  That's 8% of the threads.  I'm not seeing how it's a big deal if 8% of the recent threads about ME: A are about romance.  AND, even more to the point, only 3% of the threads are discussing romances with a favorable OP.  Just seems like you're trying to rile people up about romances when it's not really justified right now in this sub-forum.

Now, if you chose to do this in response to the 5 recent "straight guys are disappointed in Cassandra/Josephine" threads in the DA: I forums, maybe I'd understand.

How was that controversy caused by anyone but Fox News and their mockery of actual journalism? It was such a sham that the actual journalist participating in the show had only ask the others one question: "Have you actually played the game?" for the validity of their claims to collapse and be flung about like a house of cards in a tornado. To my knowledge, Fox News was ridiculed by everyone of importance especially in the gaming enviroment.

You should not feel awkward over that debacle; you should feel awkward on the behalf of those who believed Fox New during that debacle especially if they saw the show and still took the claims serious.

I broadened the discussion of my complaints and grievances I have with gaming culture. Just expanding the subject a bit. I started my own subject for the purpose because I don't want to know what they're talking about in those subject titles. should I have waited for the inevitable romance sub-forum to start this?

 1. And then 20 million kids called each others mum a ****** in CoD,

2. Anita Sarkeesian was verbally assaulted to the point of becoming a huge name, and between then and ME1 a few other lesser humiliations happened.

1 - And the bad behavior of an amount of the fans of another game franchise has what to do with the "culture pushed by the Bioware fandom" especially since that behavior has none to do with the supposed popularity of romance topic that I see?

2 - Perhaps you care to elaborate on how Anita Sarkeesian is tied to the "culture pushed by the Bioware fandom" and the topic of romance because once again, I cannot make the connection?

"The culture pushed by the Bioware fandom?"

If the Fox news coverage of a Mass Effect space romance makes you as uncomfortable being a gamer as the treatment of people like Anita Sarkeesian (and the ridiculous gamergate movement in general), I don't know what to say.

I know which one is more likely to sour me on my favored hobby.

It's 2015, and "gamer culture" is basically the culture at large now.  2015 statistics show that 4 out of 5 households in America own a machine primarily dedicated to video games.  42% of Americans play at least three hours of video games a week.

Saying "I don't like saying I play games because of sex controversy" is like saying "I don't like admitting I watch movies because they have sex scenes."

I get how it used to be.  I'm in my mid 30s.  I still own games on 5 1/4 floppy (though god knows what I'd do with them).  I remember the confusion, the shunning.  I remember having to go to weird-smelling hobby shops to find PC games.  But the world has moved and it's time to stop worrying about public perceptions "gamer culture."  It's just a reflection of the culture at large now.  And, in the culture at large, sex sells.  It's how it's always been.

I have a feeling the thread is gonna get closed soon... it is already starting to turn toxic and when the romance fanboys/girls enter here... oh noes.

Still, vanguard and sentinel in ME2 FTW. Scre* soldiers (the only reason I pick soldier in ME2 was to use the Revenant), infiltrators (the only reason for infiltrator was to use the Widow) and adepts!

Outside of the ME 3 MP forum, no, I have no recollection of what the ratio of romance threads has been historically, because it seems silly thing to expend energy on working out the math for it.

Ah, I see where you going with it.  It's really more of a complaint about the direction of gaming culture in general over the past 20 years?  I see.  Okay, this is a discussion that I can see having value.  I guess this is the problem with having no Off-Topic, any more.
