no clue why they thought having a dedicated love shack sub-forum was a good idea in the first place. guess they didn't have enough volunteer mods to manage story, character and campaign without sectioning off romances. that kind of backfired on them though.

Objection: My circuitry is has a design far superior to that of any other forum droid. If that were to be malfunctioning, my systems would be forced to shut down so that my redundant systems could take over. Since we are engaged in dialogue now on my primary system, that possibility can be ruled out.

Observation: Is it possible that you have simply chosen an inferior character class in which to specialize, and feel the need to disparage my hardware in order to defend it? It is not too late to change your favorite class. Your organic status allows you to reprogram such a designation on a whim.

Qualification: A possibility also exists that, since the Engineer is generally the favorite class with which to combat synthetics, my programming does not allow me to comment positively on such a threat to my own well-being. My threat analysis software considers this unlikely, however.

It's possible. Bias is admittedly a very common trait in organics. Still, I've converted enough synthetics into scrap metal through the use of my "inferior specialization" to suspect that your threat analyses software might need adjustment.

I'd suggest that you should rerun those probabilities, if only to to verify accuracy, but as it is I'm a little charmed by the notion of a synthetic experiencing something so reminiscent of fear in the face of the class most capable of utterly destroying its kind.

No.

I think you're viewing the past through nostalgia goggles. Even back in ye olden days when Baldur's Gate was Bioware's most popular game, there were plenty of threads devoted to 'mancing Viconia or Aerie or whomever.

These are the words of someone who has no idea how much fun a "dedicated love shack" is!

Agreement: A logical suggestion. I will do so.

Analysis: 1%.....

Soldier. I find the best advanced battlefield strategy is to have more bullets than the other guy.

Infiltrator. Playing on insanity tactical cloak+headshot makes the entire game a breeze. Only problem is running out of ammo really.

Only time Infiltrator has ammo problems for me is early ME2 with the Mantis, and only the rifle ever runs out, not the pistol or SMG. ME3 may as well have had infinite ammo with all the clips lying around.

Oddly enough, ME2 soldier is a better sniper than the infiltrator because Adrenaline Rush both has a faster cooldown and higher damage bonus than the cloak, and it's the only other class with access to the Widow. Doesn't get the aggro dump on demand, but still.

which is the whole reason to use tactical cloak. You can cloak, flank an enemy, then shoot them in the head. Same thing if you get surrounded, you can cloak and then sprint back to cover.

Plus as a soldier in ME2 there's no reason not to get the revenant as assault rifles are basically the whole point of the class. If you want to use shotguns play as a vangard, sniper rifles play infiltrator. The best sniper choice for a soldier in ME2, based on a few ME2 soldier insanity runs myself, is either the viper or incisor rather than the mantis or widowmaker as it allows you to weaken shields and barriers at a distance where your AR and shotgun aren't very effective. As soldier has higher health than all the other classes you're kind of gimping yourself if you choose to stay back and snipe from cover like an infiltrator instead of running-n-gunning whilst spamming adrenaline rush and geth shield boost/barrier/fortification.

Also infiltrator has innate time slowdown whenever you zoom in, whereas soldier needs to activate adrenaline rush to get the same effect.

On the other hand in ME3 cloak has a shorter recharge time and has a higher damage bonus with sniper rifles compared to adrenaline rush. Plus there are no weapon restrictions so you're free to use ARs and shotguns with the infiltrator.

Depends on where you go. The Gameplay and Multiplayer sections of both ME3 and DAI delved into the nitty-gritty of systems and numbers a lot.

If you go to the Story and Character forums... well, you get what you asked for.

I've never understood the mentality of "this is the mathematically optimal way to play, any other way is stupid."

Playing extreme characters is part of the fun.  Playing Fallout with high Intelligence is clearly the best because you get skills bonuses and lots of additional optimal options on how to proceed with quests that net you high XP.  But playing as a dimwit with the lowest intelligence that wants to punch his way across the wastes is also super fun.

But then I guess that's one of the downsides of attaching multiplayer to RPGs.  You're forced to play the ideal roles to be competitive rather than explore other fun game possibilities.

why does everyone all talk about their vanguard with a shotgun? I hardly ever used shotgun, and I thought I did great. Used carnifex and paladin mostly, they didn't hit the hardest but they had a great weight/damage ratio and could be rather precise from much longer ranges too. was able to take up to two other other guns with my carnifex with nearly a full recharge bonus

No guys it is clearly all about the Mattock and how awesome it sounded in ME2. Engineer army squad with drones in ME2. (Those things tank like nobody's business) Also Liara best L.I. /end discussion.

All done here folks.

Adding on: And then Bioware killed the drone in ME3... Weeps..

I can't decide between infiltrator, engineer and vanguard... Soldier for gun nut mode :D ... If there had been a class with shadowstrike... that would have been my fav.

...

Nothing wrong with romance thread, beyond threadspammers that is. All romance threads are.... is a testament to the quality of the characters, that bioware can create and the stories they can tell.

A little bit. But I don't really blame people for making so many romance topics because how much do we really know about the game? We don't even know if the same classes are coming back.

Close range the shotgun is going to hit with all the pellets and it has a high stagger effect giving you a better chance of surviving until your next charge. Its not the only way too play it, but that is some of the technical reasons why.  I really suspect its just because shotguns are cool and are best used at short range and the vanguard is the best at getting to short range immediately. I like shotguns on my adepts, use biotics to stagger, close in while they are off balance and unload on them until the shield drops then follow up with more biotics.
