I picked up the DLCs and haven't got around to them just yet and I was wondering if it's better to do them before or after the endgame. I'm on my second inquisitor and was doing all the opposite major choices from my first one, I'm at level 23 with all the open areas 99% cleared and the only quests left are Here lies the Abyss (adamant fortress section next), Wicked eyes wicked hearts and the dlc ones.

My party I run is Sera, Dorain, and Bull, not that it matters since I don't turn up the difficulty. So should I hold off till I'm done with the main quest or is it better to dive in early?

I think, it's a matter of taste. I played them post ending, but mostly because my main Inquisitor had already finished the plot.

JoH has a few allusions to finishing the whole game. (If I remember correctly, it comes up in a dialogue with Harding). I liked that, because it is so rare for a game to actually acknowlege the PC finishing her main quest!

But on the other hand:

With Descent it does not really matter, because your interaction with your companions there is really rather limited. For me, Descent, felt like it is actually set before end game. Little comments by the NPCs seem to hint that way, but it is nothing glaring.

Gameplay wise, the danger is to over level for your final fight. On the other hand, if I look at your strategy so far, that does not seem a problem for you. Also with lvl 23 neither DLCs should be too difficult to do.

Now, the only thing I am uncertain about is the loot. Does it adjust to your level? But again, with lvl 23 that should not be a problem.

Depends m8, you could roleplay that u need the Lyrium for your mages/templars thus u have to do it early, or just leave it, for me there really is no "best" time, i just prefer earlier in my playthrough cause of the gold i can make pretty fast in the place

I aways felt JoH was better to play right after what pride has wrought. You beat Corypheus, he is on the run and you need to wait for him to make his move (besides, I'm sure he'll take his sweet time to travel the wilds all the way to Haven). You get more content by having Solas along then by beating the game.

Like others said, Descent doesn't have much dialogue with companions and barely mentions the main storyline, so anytime is fine really. I still need to get it myself. I wonder if it would be doable at, say, level 15? I heard this DLC is quite the XP grinder so long as you manage to survive.

Descent seems like it should take place before the final fight...

JoH can go either way, but it kind of feels more right to do after the main game because of some acknowledgements towards finishing it. It's also

For me, Descent had two specific encounters that were a real grind (the first because I didn't understand the objective for the longest time!  Full Disclosure:  I was at Level 21-or-22 when I started down.)  And it can be a frustratingly hard map-puzzle brain-teaser.  I spent a huge amount of time back-tracking through various levels trying to figure out how to get to certain locations (or getting a team to complete a "Mission" so I could.)  But once I got the hang of it, it became a lot more fun.

There is a huge amount of XP and loot available, including some great gear.

Metagame note:  After completing Descent, the Deep Roads become an easy source of gold just by running "patrols" from the mini-War Table then selling the rewards.

So, for me it makes sense to play both during the Main Campaign, not post-game.
