I'm torn between Dwarf Noble and Human Noble lol. I love Human Noble cause I love REEEEEEVANGE! storys. While I also love Dwarf Noble cause it's sorta a REEEEEEVANGE! story but sorta not, due to you can side with the guy who may or may not made you kill your brother. Hey though...we got Gorim everyone's favorite loyal friend/love interest...although. Human Noble also has Ser Gilmore who has a beautiful mod to make him a party member.
These are my picks that I'm torn between, however yours could be totally different hehe lol. What are yours and why?
Which Origin did you enjoy the most?

Dalish Elf. It was my first. Too bad she kicked the bucket at the end.

Human Noble ascended to the Throne, while the Dwarven Noble made enough gold to purchase Amarathine. Both stories were superb.

Independent of everything else in the game, my favorite Origin story is the City Elf. It's hard to beat un-kidnapping yourself and leaving absolute carnage in your wake. Nothing better says "don't mess with me and mine".

Must say I loved what both Elhanan and Lazarillo had to say about why they played the way they did. Great story ideas. I don't much like to play as an elf, but agree with Lazarillo that the city elf origin story was my favorite, for the very same reasons as (s)he stated. I have played all of the origins so many times that I'm not sure I can choose a favorite. I like playing as a human but don't much care for the human noble origin. Wish there was a human story with more of a ragamuffin tilt to it. Not too crazy about playing as a mage either, so human stories are tough for me. That said, I probably chose the human noble more than any of the others. Liked both the dwarf stories ok, but don't want to be a dwarf at the end, as I want to marry Alistair.
However, I'm not really answering the question, am I? I guess my favorite origin story is the city elf which I played second most, and the story I played the most is human noble.

Hmm, personally... I have to go with the Dwarf Noble (which was my very first play through of the game), the Human Noble (my second), and the City Elf (which was my third). They all have very memorable moments to me and I believe they have some amazing story lines and alternate dialogue as you return to your place of Origin or take revenge upon people who have wronged you. They make for great experiences.

I'm torn between City Elf and Dwarf Commoner for sheer epicness. Taking on a bunch of people who think they're better than you and wiping the floor with them? Yes, please!
However, I recommend playing every Origin at least once, just to get a feel for them all, because they're all enjoyable.

Human noble will always be my choice, everything in it seems right, you're Fereledn nobility who'll unite and lead Ferelden against the blight, if female is your choice you could ascend the throne.
And if you're going Dwarf switch to the commoner one, it has very solid moments in it when you go back to Orzammar.

Actually, either gender HN can ascend the throne.

Considering that becoming king means you have to stab Alistair in the back, it doesn't feel quite right to me either. Having said that, I do intend to try it on one of my playthroughs.

I don't see any betrayal with Alistair. It's not like you ever told him we're going to kill Loghain no matter what. You do give him the option that he can return if he changes his mind, and frankly I think that's probably more than he deserves in that circumstance.
As for Origin, male Cousland. it's good to be the King, er Prince Consort.

You may not have told him that explicitly, but he still sees it as a betrayal.
As far as Origin, I will also admit that Elf Mage gives a unique viewpoint, particularly if you roleplay that your character is from the Denerim Alienage (and was old enough when taken to remember it).

It's not just about Alistair(it is to some extent), my Cousland is Warden first and last after what happened at Highever he was born anew shaped by what it means to be a grey warden, it's his new identity and purpose in life to serve the order as the best example, and a king one would ruin all that even as much as i like Ferelden (which is my nation of choice in DA) i know it would be in good hand with Theirin blood on the throne, Highever returned to my family and Amaranthine to be granted to the grey ones.
After all the trails he was put throw and emerged triumphant, Cousland warden became what it means to be a grey warden and i would never take that away from him, he earned it justly.

Queen sounds better than "prince consort", though.
And considering how thirsty Anora is, I doubt that she'd allow the Warden to have any real authority.

I've played all the origin stories but have never finished the game with either city elf or mage elf. Of those I finished, I liked human noble (getting to take out Howe) and dwarf commoner the best. The latter gave Orzammar an entirely different feel upon returning, even more so than dwarf noble.
For carry-over into later stories, probably Dalish elf is the best.

I liked HN mostly for the story connection, the Cousland family and getting to be prince/princess consort after. And for being king, I had Alistair kill Loghain and my Cousland married Anora. No betrayal there. Alistair didn't want it and was much happier staying a grey warden. As long as the Blight is taken care of and Loghain gets justice for his crimes, I don't think Alistair minds the HMN taking the throne.
My second favorite Origin to play was CIty elf, though not too keen on the actual in game story. Not much different from the other elf origins and less fun than the elf mage who gets all kinds of mage-specific dialogue making it more fun in game.
Neck and neck with City elf is the dwarf commoner who has a lot more interesting stuff in Orzammar than the dwarf noble, IMO. Was actually able to put Bhelen on the throne without much conflict about it on that run.

Yeah I don't like stabbing Alistair in the back either especially as he's by your side effectively all the way through DAO but like you say it's interesting to do things like that now and then to see what happens. I did so in my current run by sparing Loghain and converting him into a Warden. However that was my plan with my latest warden anyway as I wanted her to be a contraversial type.

Depends on the view you take... I like both dwarf noble and human noble origins for their twist and presence of backstabbing (more for the dwarf)... you lead pretty comfortable life with your family, your parents love you and such... and suddenly you get slapped, your parents are dead, you get thrown out of your home and have to find a different way. Cousland origin also gives you some sort of motivation on the side (revenge on Howe) that is intertwined with the main story. I also kinda liked the brutality of city elf origin...
But in terms, who I can project myself into better, it would be Amell origin. I just like playing a character that is considered kind of a freak by general population, but also gets much better insight into certain areas of the lore that most of other people lack. Plus all that power you can potentially have at your fingertips... ![]()
As for Surana origin... it's obviously pretty much the same deal, but for the life of mine I have never been comfortable playing elves. Don't know why, I'm perfectly fine have them as team members (I really like Zevran for example), but they just never appealed to me in pretty much any universe (with the exception of Dunmer in Elder Scrolls). They have interesting mythology, but they just not interest me as people, if that makes sense. That is also reason, why I'm not much interested in Dalish or city elf character in general.
As for nobles... again, I don't know why, I just don't get much attachment to a noble character. Always seen them as pompous, full of money, greedy bastards with focus on politics and other petty stuff...
I'm also not a "family friendly" character - don't get me wrong there I have great respect fro anyone who makes his family work, I just don't want to part of that system, really. For some twisted reason, I find it much easier to be in a role of a character, who either doesn't know anything about his/her close relatives or have not seen them for so long, that he/she basically doesn't consider them a part of his life. Basically I have no problems to help my relatives out with practical problems, hell even take a beating for them, but for crying out loud... don't make me spend time with them, talk with them too much or participate in a family reunions and dinners and all that kind of stuff... I can't take this. ![]()
So at the end of the day, I'd say Amell, despite his/her origin part of the game isn't all that special or emotional.

It's always weird to me to so commonly see that scene described as "betraying Alistair". If anything, to me, it comes off the other way around. Alistair's the one who insists on having things his way and throws a tantrum when you try to put the mission first.
Although it's worth noting that you don't necessarily have to spare Loghain to marry Anora, if you play your cards right. Just let Alistair himself fight the duel, and if he's not "hardened", either because you didn't pick that option, or because you haven't done that mission yet, he'll still automatically kill Loghain, but will not declare himself king, so you'll still have the alternative option, as far as I can recall.

Just my personal thoughts:
Human Noble will always have a special place in my heart (enjoying my recent ASoIaF/GoT-lite male Cousland).
I'm also partial to both dwarven origins. As backwards as their society may be, it's still pretty cool.
City Elf is alright. Nice that the way it plays out changes depending on the gender/sex of your character.
Dalish can choke on it.
Mage was nothing special but the retroactive connection between Hawke and Amell was nice.

Dwarf Noble.
The spectacular alien character of Orzammar.
The rigidity of their stratified society (reminds me of Klingons a bit).
The intrigues of Dwarven Politics.
Fighting duels in the provings.
Total betrayal by my own brother.
It is totally epic. I played them all, and none hold a candle to this one (IMO).
#2 would be Dwarven commoner. Last would be everything else. Nothing has quite the epic character that the Dwarven origins do.
