Dalish Elf, in all honesty. For the shallow reason that they were the first I played. XD

Still, considering that Merril and the eluvians and the Dalish in general make a prominent appearance in all three games, it seems quite fitting.

So as I understand, the favorite origin was the one that also deals with the later story of the Merrill and the Eluvian, based on reflection....

Female city elf rogue is my all time fav and canon. Dwarf noble comes second as the rare option to RP as pragmatic pampered b@stard without becoming a caricature. I felt the mage origin had the weakest plot relevance and connection to the world apart from Jowan. City elf and Noble dwarf get into the class disparities and darker mood of the world fairly quickly. Human noble is fairly stereotypical fantasy story, so it didn't stand out much for me.

Human Noble.

Because it's not just your origin story, but it's also made clear over the course of the game that it was part of the main story as well (since Howe betraying Bryce to take Highever was part of Loghain's plan and done with his blessing, and I hope no one tries to say it wasn't...) So the Human Noble origin has you doubly invested.

It's funny looking back at my trophies, and seeing that Dalish was my first try. I don't remember that. CE ended up being my favorite, but over over time, I found a lot of value in Dalish. It's kind of sad it isn't the most developed plot, but at the same time, it feels like the most stereotypical (or iconic) beginnings for a Bioware hero. Lots of stories of being changed by an artifact.

I don't really care to play it with Witch Hunt though. My Dalish is dead. And I'm not sure they'd be fascinated by that point anyways. Not to mention the Dalish hate thieves of their heritage.

Human female mage.

Elf female mage.

City Elf female rogue.

Male human mage.

Those are my four worldstate combinations so I think its pretty easy to say that the magi origin is my favourite. City Elf female comes in close second though. She's just so damn badass.

Revised Post...

1 Female Cousland - I like how I can marry my love, Alistair in the end.... And become his queen Consort. Plus; I love the Cousland family (I was happy when Fergus lived; he's the best older brother ever!) and Male Cousland included too..

2. Female Amell - The Cullen crush did it for me.

3. All the rest were so meh to me; its not even funny.b

Cousland is the best origin IMO. It just puts a whole new twist on the emotional pull of the storyline. You are extra driven to bring an end to Loghain's schemes and gut that bastich Rendon Howe. Make sparring Loghain at the end almost impossible to rationalize though. You are, or at least I am, simply more invested on a personal level. It's not just about defeating the AD and ending the Blight.

A line I wish could have been in that moment in Eamon's estate when Loghain and Howe show up: "You killed my family. You took my home, my lands, my people... Before this is over I will stand over your corpse and smile." Then just walk off. Loses effect when you consider the lack of voice over for the Warden...

City Elf, although the human noble was certainly interesting too. I just hate how the city elf gets the least amount of unique content after their origin story is over. They get to return home, but it's far more brief than the amount of time spent at Orzammar or the Brecilian Forest. The most notewothy things about your return to the alienage were <3 Shianni and "Yeah, I used to be engaged".

1. F!Amell

2. F!Tabris

3. M/F Cousland

4. M/F Dalish (I played Dalish first so this origin will always have a special place in my heart.)

5. M!Amell / M!Tabris / M/F Surana

6. M/F Aeducan

7. M/F Brosca

It's not that I dislike the dwarf origin stories, but I just don't connect to them as much, even though they are still really well done. I'll always love my Amelia Aeducan. But female Amell and female Tabris are definitely my favorites. Cullen crushing on Amell is just too adorable. Plus I love playing a mage, and I love the connection to Hawke's family. And City Elf is just so well done and so resonant, especially if you play as female.

In context of origin stories, i enjoyed Mage origin, because

i. started at outside world realm - it have some background cutscene that explain things, then just jump into action fighting Fade creatures and demon. All things about Templar vs Mage explained along the way.

ii. test of trust - who i trust more, my friend or my mentor? Even though it is a short introduction toward characters, but i know that Jowan is my best friend, and i am Irving pet student. There is a conflict that i like, about trust.

iii. mini quest - fighting spiders in the store room (cave?).

iv. more fighting - fight all the way to plachatery room.

v. multiple endings - the whole origin have many endings

So, in short, Mage origin is long, have phases (in the Fade, in store room, in repiository), have an early conflict, have actions, meet many characters we can talk to with interesting dialogues, so many infos about the whole things in the game...it's full for an introduction about the world of Dragon Age compared to other origins.

But only one thing i am annoyed...the music make me yawn....especially in the Fade

Female City Elf specifically for me. It's just so personal and a really good vehicle to introducing the relationship between elves and humans in the setting. And the Dwarvern Noble origin was top aswell! Gotta love Harrowmont's 'I believe you' when you say you didn't to it. It really sets up the Orzammar portion well.

^ I like how your perspective of Harrowmont and Bhelen change depending on which origin you play.   One of the best parts of DA:O is that each origin fills another piece of the larger overall puzzle.  SWTOR is like that as well.

Dwarven Noble is my fave by far. Lots of skullduggery, not to mention the potential to be a complete spoiled royal snot, and ability to achieve glory at the Proving. I kind of like how everyone is out to get everybody else. Lots of interesting stuff here.

And, in descending order:

Circle Mage: I like playing mages in these sorts of games, but I have to say that I took an immediate dislike to Jowan. If I had my way, the twerp would have been tranquilized and the whole Redcliffe mess could have been avoided. Since I found out it was an option, I ALWAYS rat him out to Irving. The Harrowing is fun, Senior Enchanter Leorah is funny and if you play as a female, Cullen is equal parts funny and creepy (just plain creepy when you return to the tower later, and he goes on about his sex fantasies about you in earshot of your companions!).

Casteless Dwarf: Being a gangster is fun, but the “sneaking into the proving” bit is a little cliché. Still fun, though!

Human Noble: Well, I like that this one has resonance throughout the game, but it’s kind of a cliché storm. And the Mary Sue-ness is strong with this one. I mean, Hell, you can make yourself king/queen!

City Elf: I like that there’s a strong vengeful streak with this one (again, giving strong resonance later in the game), but it’s just so f---ing depressing! The scene with Shianni is just heartbreaking! I almost never play elves, anyway.

Dalish Elf: YAAAAAWN!

While I agree that the Dalish Elf is my least favorite origin, it has one of the better conclusions offered to any of them.

It's just nice seeing how much people love the origins.. whatever they are. Even after all of these years, these little parts of the game are often talked about.

Fast forward now.. and Gaider told me just to make up my own story in DAI. lol. I can do that, but I find it a little sad. The origins felt like a two-way street with the writers.

That, but I talked to him directly too. That was his answer. Make it up.

I'm still puzzled by that.. considering DAO and even DA2 (which is like a whole origin unto itself).

Where are all the money goes to? What makes DA stands out of all other games is the story. Next time you talk to him directly, suggest him maybe we should focus on the story again instead of the graphic...

It's a shame because I always felt that the origin stories were the most fun part of DA:O.
