It's a shame because I always felt that the origin stories were the most fun part of DA:O.

That and the "tactics",in DAO I had to really put my mind into managing everyone's tactics, what everybody should do when this and that happens in battle...in DA2 and DAI you don't even need the tactics anymore. Just mind your own behind. Many fun things has lost since DAO.

I think you need them for Anders at least. If you want him to be both Panacea/Vengeance. You can do other interesting things with characters too (like set up chain shots for Sebastian).. maybe it's not as necessary, but it's all there. That's more than I can say for DAI.

Yes,I forgot to mention. I'm doing my second walkthrough of DA2 (coz I started with the default world state few years back)...and this time I decided to make it as quick as I can,so I'm not bothering with tactics anymore, and enemies are still dropping down like flies...yes,in DAI I didn't even found the tactics and finished just fine, which is quite unsatisfying for a DAO fan like me...if they makes the next DA game with DAO's graphics I'll be just fine,as long as the other elements can match DAO's again.

I'd recommend Hardcore for Da2 at least. Avg enemies aren't anything, but some of the bosses are surprisingly good.

Kidding me? I said I'm trying to finish it as quick as I can this time...I didn't even bother to set the screen resolution this time.  :P  If I could find a world state exactly like mine on youtube I would just watch there....and now I've just finished deliver Flemeth's amulet...Gaaawwd,it's long a** journey ahead.

Fair enough. I was recently trying to make some DAO saves myself.. I wish there was a "Skip Fade" for every level. I love this game, but years later, I'm a little burned out.

I'd rather skip the Deep Roads than the Fade, but isn't it odd that they took the most complained about areas and put them in every game?

Funny thing is,in my second walkthrough I heard Isabela and Anders having a conversation about the Pearl (the brothel in Denerim where we first met Isabela in DAO). And Isabela mentions she saw Anders in the Pearl before, and says something like "you used to do that electricity thing, that was niiiiice!" to Anders, and both of their tunes are kinda flirty...and right after she said that Hawke butt in and said:Pleeease stop! ....Does that mean Anders and Isabela slept together?  :bandit:

In order:

City Elf.

Mage Elf.

Dwarf Commoner.

Dalish Elf.

Dwarf Noble. (Started off hating it, really came around after my boyfriend convinced me to give it a chance. I'm still kind of outraged the Dwarf Noble can't become King/Queen of Orzammar the way the Human Noble could become King/Queen of Ferelden. You were first in line until you were tricked or framed into exile. There's no reason you shouldn't be able to clear your name--at least if you were framed--and declare yourself a third option for the throne, especially with a Paragon's crown.)

Human Mage. (It's so BORING! I couldn't even get past the Harrowing.)

Human Noble. (After playing right after the city elf, mage elf, and dwarf commoner origins, I was sickened by the amount of privilege and worship the HN received. Not to mention I was put off rather than charmed by the game's ham-fisted and heavy-handed attempts to force you to love your "oh-so-pefect" little family. I just found them all obnoxious rather than lovable. Since the "meat" of the origin hinges on you being sad that they're dead, there's nothing there for me.)

Favourite : Mage! I'm probably biased as this was my first character. I'm one of the few people who actually likes Jowan, there are multiple options on how to play through this origin, and it seems like one of the longer ones.

Least : Noble, Dalish, City Elf.

Noble - oh so perfect family, with zero flaws, who all die in a very clichéd way. Boring.

Dalish - WHY WOULD YOU TOUCH THAT MIRROR?!? I don't mind most of this origin, but it relies on your friend being a complete moron who has never heard a single horror story. DONT TOUCH THE CREEPY ARTIFACT WITH WIERD NOISES COMING OUT!!

City Elf - I really want to like this one, not a lot of stories are willing to give you this type of content towards your character in the first few hours for anything other than shock effect. But I can't take it seriously with the terrible dialogue from the nobles, who parade around in broad daylight sexually assaulting Elves. It's ridiculous. The devs themselves said its not a normal occurrence, and the Origins were supposed to teach you about normal life, not what happeneds in some one off occurrence. If I had written this Origin, I would have made the Elves servants, so they would have been behind closed doors in the nobles house when it happened. So no one would know/ be able to help you, and there would be the added pressure of the Elves losing their job if they don't go along with it and not being able to provide for their family.

To be fair, the Couslands may have been unaware that Howe was voiced by Tim Curry. Cannot blame them for not knowing of the typed casting choice....

I love all but the Dalish, and generally dislike it because one is coerced into choosing a way to recover property that seems rightfully theirs.

As a suburban college student with no prior combat training or experience, I was able to relate the most with the mage origin due to the fact that casting spells does not require being able to do 50 push-ups. I also liked that as a human mage I was related to the Champion of Kirkwall which added some much needed continuity to the boring premise of DA2.

I felt the same about the dwarf noble becoming king of Orzammar at first, but at the same time, the shapers consider you casteless the moment you step foot on the surface, so I can understand, even if I morally disagree with the caste system.

I have to say that I don't like playing humans. I'm a human every day of my life, so why would I want that in a fantasy game? So if tehre is anotehr option, I will mostly take that - but I did all Origins to get an insight (and I have an active fCousland at the moment, whom I actually like, so maybe she will see the end of the game...)

I like Dalish Elf the most. I just love the concept of elves in DA and I do like the Origin story. I'm still sad, Tamlen died

Dwarf castless is great too. It's much more fun than the dwarf noble. I like that 'in your face' attitude of my castless girl.

Female city elf is nearly as great as the dwarf commoner, despite being a bit unrealistic, like someone mentioned before. On the other hand, if I remember correctly, that serial killer in Kirkwall, who was son of a high ranking politian, could go on killing elven children for years, despite the fact, that his crimes were known. But he could go on, because he was a lords son and his victims were 'only' elfs. I guess it's not that different in the ce origin. Maybe that Arls son (I forgot his name, I never listen to him and kill him as soon as possible) took the opportunity, that the king and many guards were away. It did not feel, like that sort of incidents were common.

I don't like the human noble origin that much, it's kind of boring and the family is a bit too perfect. It's nice, that some character has a functional family, but they went a bit over the top with that (maybe to make up for the lack of family in some of the other origins - the Dalish is an orphan, the dwarf commoners mother is an alcoholic, the dwarf nobles family is a bad joke, the mage has no famliy, the city elf only a father left). I always wanted to finish at least one playthrough with a hn though, to get some of the specific content, you only get with that origin, apart from the marrying Alistair and become queen option, that's a nogo. I deeply suspect, my rogue Cousland will end up with one of the rogue companions, most likely Zevran.

Mage and dwarf noble are both ok, not that great, but ok. In the mage origin they didn't do a great job in establishing Jowan as your best mate. You did get that best mate feeling with Tamlen in the Dalish origin or with Joris in the city elf origin or even with that red headed knight everyone seems so fond of in the human noble origin (the one, who should become GW , forgot his name, but he seems to be a fan favorite). WIth Jowan, I never had that feeling and I guess, that's the reason, he is not working well in the mage origin. I tried to be his friend, but nowadays I normally go behind his back to Irving and I really don't feel bad about it.

And in the dwarf noble origin, the family is a bit too unlikeable for my taste. I get it, that your character and Bhelen are supposed to get along well before he starts killing off his family, but to me it feels like Jowan in the mage origin. I always thought, it should be a big shock, when you find out, what Bhelen did, but somehow, it did not work for me. At the end, most of your family is dead or dying, but I feel nothing (well, a bit of anger about that stupid noble caste, but that's it)

One family seems too perfect, and another is too imperfect? Sounds a bit hard to please, esp as one prefers the origin with no family at all.

I think either human noble or dwarf noble.  I love the political backstabby intrigue in both.  Very Game of Thrones-ish

Human noble... Yes I am boring but I can't connect with my own oc's if they aren't human origin...

City elf for me has a really really close tie as one of my favorites especially if your female because escaping a place full of soldiers will always be badass

Human mage because the class is really cool and also I love the fade <3 interesting place

Castless dwarf was really fun and well I found the sister here really adorable

dwarf noble

I definately played the Human Noble the most, it's my favorite. You, arguably, get to have the most involvement in the world, and getting vengeance on Howe is good personal story, as well.

Other than that, definately both of the elves' origins. There's a bit of mystery to the Dalish Origin, which is great, and the City Elf Origin has that delightful bit of the old ultraviolence.

Dwarf Noble

Mage (human or elf, it's the same.)

Dwarf Commoner

Human Noble

City Elf

Dalish Elf.

I like them all and have no real dislike of any of the origins, but that's the order I'd put it in.

Dwarf's also have that. And they are intrinsically linked to the fate of the crown there. The Dwarf Noble has just cause to turn against Bhelen (or try to keep the crown in the family,) but may have some additional drama if a male noble had a son with Mardy and now is asked to restore his casteless son his rights and give him a house. A casteless dwarf's own sister is Bhelen's consort and nephew is the heir to Aeducan now. Add in how Casteless are treated and how Harrowmont actually supports the brutality as it is tradition.

The whole Orzammar segment is much better if you play as a dwarf if only for the extra drama going either way.
