On PC, is my mic on or off?

I always thought my mic is off because I didn't push the CTRL key.  But I just discovered I could go into Origin settings and saw that I am not on "Push to Talk".  Does it mean it had been on all those times and everybody could hear me chewing or breathing or whatever else I was doing? :P

Second question, now that I have selected Push to Talk does it mean my mic is really off?   I read in another thread somewhere that the CTRL key only works in the Lobby and in a game the mic is always on?  Is that true?   What if I just change the MIC volume to 0 in Origin settings?

If it was set voice activated it is very possible everything you've done has been broadcast to your games >.< even if you enable push-to-talk, your mic will be on when you or someone else joins a lobby. This can be a split second thing or sometimes even several seconds of open mic. On top of that, sometimes in the course of normal play, a mic set to push-to-talk will randomly go off as if set to voice activated. Seriously -.-

If you set voice chat behavior to Off you won't hear other people speaking either. No mic chat whatsoever. If I want to leave voice chat on I set it to push to talk and then use the mute switch on my mic/headset. Even this has failed me before though so I tend to keep the Recording Devices window open in the background so I can alt tab out occasionally to make sure it's actually muted. Welcome to the wonderful world of PC voice chatting :(

Edit: Oh.... You're talking about the ORIGIN mic settings. Ok so yeah... The one time my friend and I tried using the Origin voice chat feature it didn't only broadcast our conversation to our origin chat room, it also shared the entire thing with everyone in our DAIMP lobby. If you figure that out.... Let me know :/

I used my mic on PC for a week but for some reason, unlike other games, it doesn't work most of the time so I just gave up. Now I play with a group that uses the text messaging via the overlay. At least I learned how to pin a window in the corner of the game so I can see what they are typing in game. Its not nearly as good as voice, but works.

My headset cost more than your Xbox, the mic better damn well pick up my farts and burps and any other sounds my wife and I make while "Gaming'.  People don't add me to their lobby due to my gaming skills.... :)

I can't hear you right now, so it must be off.

*The origin settings are not for DAI.

Yes this is annoying. Everybody should run push to talk though.

Okay, so I guess I will just change the mic volume to 0 to be safe.
