The derivative English nobility of this human family, friends, nanny etc was so evident that Rex was the obvious name for the dog.
War Dog names, anyone?

I named him/her Bran or Sceolan after Fionn MacCumhal's two Wolfhounds. All the celtic names/flavour in DA just fitted somehow.

I named him Enkidu. During my next playthrough, when I'll use a male Warden, I'll name him (the Warden) Gilgamesh, so that their names will match.

I just name it Maba. I think it is quite fitting for a mabari.

Kin, since naming your dog the literal term which refers to one of immediate relations is appropriate.
Nyx, if your name is Selene and that's just how you roll.
Granola if your Warden is bald and has a hunk of wood for a best friend. Or not.
Ryder if your Warden has a mustache and a pair of ass-less chaps that they never take off. Ever.
Warmageddon if you're into Soulfly.
God if you think a play-on-words like that is funny, or something.
Snowchild; fitting (you're an artsy, wolf-loving hippy freak).
Gorgoron the Bone-Crusher; if your canine is the herald to a new beginning filled with pain, misery, and hastily marked bushes.
...these are all horrible names.

My first character named the dog "Dog". Funny thing is that I don't remember being prompted for the name, so I'm still not sure if "Dog" is a default name when acquiring him with a human noble origin, or if I chose it while I was half-asleep and thought it was funny at the time.
On my second playthrough, I was a ruthless elven mage, so I wanted my name for the mabari to reflect my character's attitude towards it. I settled on "Meatshield".
Now I'm playing as a thieving rogue and named the dog "Bandit".

Now if only I could find a way to make my PC say, "There you go Cuddles, now feast on his flesh."

My mage just called him Dog, until Zevran joined my group and told him that dog was what he was, not what he should be called. After some brainstorming, we settled on Perro, which Zevran later informed me is the Antivan word for dog... yeah, we Zevran fans are an odd bunch.
