Does it apply the upgrade if you've taken the upgrade?

I've wondered that about pretty much all the Fade-Mats actually.

They don't seem to.

You can easily test it on Horn of Valor, The regular version comes out, even if you have the upgrade.

None of the masterworks are affected by upgrades to their ability homologues. I tested it with numerous masterworks, such as Horn of Valor, Fade Cloak, Hidden Blades, Walking Bomb.

Masterworks seem to be only affected by passives. You can, for example, use 15% poison on hit with a rogue and get toxic cloud after the death of an enemy if that passive is skilled. I use this on my DW rogue because of this.

They also proc their respective detonators correct? E.g. Stagger on hit and Hidden Blades will proc rupture, and stagger on hit and immolate will proc weakness.

Thats super interesting that the poison procs toxic cloud. Thanks for the info!

It's hard to land a combo with a masterwork and a stagger on hit, since the autoattack that staggers needs to also proc the hidden blades (for example) for it to rupture, otherwise the next attack will break the stagger and prevent the combo.

Stagger on being hit and chance to cast Mind Blast on hit will proc Eldritch detonator for 1200% damage. That's actually the easiest way to solo combo, since they both land on enemies you're not attacking.

Oh no I'm talking about the ability itself causing the stagger and comboing with itself. The hidden blades masterwork causing the stagger and the immediate detonation of it, same for the Immolate masterwork. Has anyone tested that?

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

EDIT: But thanks for the clarification on the Mind Blast and the Stagger on Being Hit.

I pretty much never had that happen to me, and I've soloed a lot with high stagger on hit & hidden blades on hit on my warrior.

I'm 99.99% sure on-hit effect never cause stagger on hit, and thus can't detonate themselves.

Tip: think of FT masterwork abilities as properties of the wielder, not the weapon/shield/armor they wield. Those are just the means of applying the property to the wielder, no different from a ring or amulet. But unlike rings, properties of the identical type don't stack. So putting Hidden Blades x4 on both daggers of a DW rogue doesn't get you x8 or double the chance to proc.

So go ahead and put Hidden Blades x4 on armor and Heal on Hit on a sword. It doesn't matter.
