Wow, I can't wait to try this out!

 

Hmmm I just hit a respec on my KE to see how investing in the power works, and it is back to just listing "Defending Blade."  There might be something strange going on.

Definitely something weird. When I checked, my KE had both upgrades listed, but Vivienne didn't (and she also didn't have Defending Blade "bought" either, so that may be why). Varric had both listed (and his upgrade was bought), but when I swapped them, the explosive upgrade disappeared until I reloaded the save. I've heard if you swap the blade upgrades they'll disappear forever as well. So yes, something weird.

Can someone on Xbox One test if the Skyhold storage chest still allows for duping? I really would like to know before patching it since I would need to make some more +25 runes.

No he didn't have it bought. Neither did vivs and only defending is showing up for each.

No he didn't have it bought. Neither did vivs and only defending is showing up for each.

What happens if you upgrade (are you only seeing one empty upgrade, or did you already try choosing it)? (I'm not sure, but I think they still only take a single upgrade point and you pick your toggle afterward.)

I heard Bryan say Storage duping still worked.

He did, but I double-checked. Tested an Amulet and Rune. Both worked! :)

What happens if you upgrade (are you only seeing one empty upgrade, or did you already try choosing it)? (I'm not sure, but I think they still only take a single upgrade point and you pick your toggle afterward.)

I slapped defending blade on vivs but didn't save and load to see what changed. I'll do that in a sec.

I went to the first save after getting to Skyhold, and then took Vivienne to the Hinterlands to unlock her specialization thinking that maybe it was unlocking post-patch that is necessary, but it still just came up as Defending Blade.

Lasting Mark is useless, the bônus you get from triggering the Mark is way beyond the dmg you can get from 4s.
Time to put it in another place.

Ffffff....... THAT was what my problem was??  :blink: They changed the upgrade path for Mark of Death.... geezus, I thought I was losing my mind or Mark of Death was now bugged to hell after this new patch  <_<

 

Well, guess I'll be using a Respec amulet to get rid of that Lasting Mark, cause I honestly like being able to manually trigger the Mark when I want to.

With this patch, it is possible to actually make a hybrid Knight Enchanter build now. You can just stand back, use spells and only use spirit blade against very tough enemies.

Another update on Mark of Death - it looks like the previous "armor reduction" effect from the original upgrade path is still getting applied, as enemies are still getting Sundered when I place the Mark (even with the new Lasting Mark upgrade purchased)

Ok just checked in-game. Flask of lightning upgrade still further dilates time, but no longer extends by 2 seconds. Instead of extra 2 seconds each enemy you hit takes 300% lightning damage.

Upgrade now called 'Thunderstruck'

 

Is it still good? I won't be experiencing this patch until the day I get a PS4, so I can't even check. You know my opinion on tempest, so I don't want it becoming worse.

 

 

Shadow strike changed too. 

 

It used to give 200% bonus damage if used from stealth or not being hit.

 

Now you get back 70 stamina if you hit a target that isn't attacking you.

 

Old cost was 50, new cost is 20.  So net return of 50 stamina.

 

Shadow strike Upgrade (Quick blade) has also been changed.

 

Old version reduced stamina cost and GCD of all skills by 4 seconds.  New version adds the 200% extra damage if used from stealth or not being hit.  So no more using Shadow strike under Flask of Fire to stay perma-flasked.

 

Evasion changed:

 

Old was 5% to activate, new is 10% to activate

 

I never really used shadow strike like that, despite it being an option. I won't notice. Definitely a nerf though. Evasion is at least semi-decent now.

That's exactly why others say it was nerfed. You can certainly enjoy the changes but I don't agree that it's objectively better now.

I think it is. You can boost the damage of your lightsaber spirit blade well beyond the pre-patch levels with the Force your spells. Couple that with Conductive Current and the lightsaber spirit blade will be very powerful now in terms outright damage.

 

Before this, Knight Enchanter = Spirit Blade spammer. This adds a new depth to the Knight Enchanter that was previously missing.

 

Now you have to be more tactical with using Spirit Blade.

 

What's more, the damage to guard and barrier is still there. Previously, it was too much.

 

Additionally, the lightsaber spirit blade still has a low mana cost.

 

IMO, this is not a nerf because it opens up new ways to play the Knight Enchanter.

 

What most of us must realize is that the core of the Knight Enchanter specialization is Fade Shield, in the same way the Restorative Veil is the core of Rift Mage, Simulacrum is the core of Necromancer and Opportunity Knocks is the core of the Artificer.

Yep. That is the bane of Rift Mages. Now the Necromancer is actually viable and I think better than Rift Mages because you can get enchantments to reduce spell costs and stack them up, which in a way sidesteps the mana issue.

 

Rift Mage though ? You cannot use enchantments to sidestep the shock/weakness bug. :crying:

Look, we have different opinions on the Spirit Blade change and both sides have reasons for having those opinions. I don't think I've presented my opinion as the only valid one.

You use spirit blade combined with clean burn to shorten the cooldown of your longer cooldown abilities, allowing for unprecedented low cooldowns difficult to replicate with any of the other mage specializations, which is why it's so high damage. 

 

It is however a straight nerf in its guard and barrier reduction abilities, as well as rune damage. 

 

But in terms of playstyle, the KE remains the same. 

 

Thank god necromancer is getting love.

500% explosion damage (down from "600%", but hopefully up from 200%), not DoT.
 

Now all we need is a caltrops buff

Caltrops is buffed, I think (it does the new bleed damage when upgraded).

Or changed, at least (I know it was already made a lot stronger in multiplayer sometime in the past).
