That ring ! MY PRECIOUSSS...! Oh man, can you imagine using that ring in conjunction with Energy Barrage or Fade Step or Wall of Fire or Chain Lightning ? Prepare for mage domination !

That, and now all Utility slots can be used for building Dexterity for even more damage.

This day just keeps getting better. First we had Walking Bomb fixed. Then Spirit Mark is buffed. Next we have Mana Surge and Rejuvenating Barriers working for everyone in the party.  Finally this and the ring..Crit-Necromancer...Critomancer, here I come !

The usefullness depends on how long the delay is on going into stealth in combat.

No, the new ring is mage only. Still great though, it's almost like having Stealth+I Was Never Here+Knife in the Shadows all in one ring. Critical Damage mage builds have a welcome new toy.

What? +20 Flanking for a mage is next to worthless, isn't it? I see the class restriction now, glossed right over it because why buff flanking for a mage? Unless specifically KE? Does SB even get Flanking damage bonuses?

The flanking bonus isn't really relevant to my excitement over the ring but to answer you question I don't see why it wouldn't .

The flanking bonus isn't really relevant to my excitement over the ring but to answer you question I don't see why it wouldn't .

I thought there is a penalty to flanking damage bonus if you aren't in melee range? Which mages usually aren't.

Flanking

  • Base flanking bonus = 25%.
  • To qualify as a flanking attack, the attacker must be positioned in an 180-degree arc behind the defender. In other words, if the defender is facing 12 o'clock, the attacker must be located between 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock.
  • All attacks except damage over time ticks can benefit from flanking.
  • If the attacker is more than 3 meters from the defender, the attacker suffers a flat 25% penalty to flanking bonus (whether the attack is melee or ranged is irrelevant for this check).

Maybe I'm being dense, but what's exciting about the stealth part? I'm assuming "while not attacking" means that any stealth/crit based buffs don't apply (assuming mages even have stealth based crit buffs ... I can't think of one).

EDIT: Wow, my reading comprehension is bad today! NOW I get it, the second bullet.

The Ring of Doubt (Unique Ring)
Restrictions: Mage only
+20% Flanking Damage Bonus
Enter stealth when not attacking during combat
You are a deadly threat to any enemy that can’t see you coming. When you attack from stealth, you automatically land a critical hit.

If your assumption is correct, then the entire ring is pretty bunk, but I don't see why it would have been turned into an item if that particular effect didn't work at all.

Separate question: has Pull of the Abyss ever worked on Despair demons?

It should. I know I used it recently on some of the rifts in Jaws, and the despair demons would go twirling in the air but not be able to fly out (they just kept getting drawn in).

Maybe there's a difference when you try to pull higher-level enemies (or those guys are just extra try-hard)?

I just confirmed that if you already looted that room before the patch, you get only the power amulet, no do-overs. :(

Yeah, chests marked as looted can't be opened, even if the contents change.

A post-game or in-progress save isn't going to be able to get any of the new items (unless it's a chest you never emptied or enemy you never killed).

Yay, you DO get to loot Amulets of Power for the Inquisitor again.

That amulet was already there (they created that new container for it in Patch 5). It's one of the three lootable amulets that were left in the game.

Now that they've added an item, though, it's probably subject to the exploit they were trying to fix in the first place (since you can grab the power amulet, reset the area, and have another one spawn in). (Not that it even matters anymore with the storage chest duping.)

I already knew the amulet was there. that's why I made my post.

Great patch.

Great work turning SB into an almost useless spell, because some idiots whined about it incessantly (even though they probably don't even play it, and certainly they don't play for me... but the subtlety of that statement is wasted here).

As a side note, I find it brilliant to add content to game in pre-existent containers. It's really smart. And to clarify, as needed, that was sarcasm.

Now I'm paranoid about everything. Is this normal for Regen potion in SP: If you take damage while a regen potion is active, the little status icon grays out. It's like a fill line that goes down as you take damage and goes up if you aren't taking damage. Is that new? Am I seeing things? I just noticed this post patch, but it might have always been that way for all I know.

Huh? If I'm not mistaken, first of all, I assume only the first hit of energy barrage will be guaranteed crit out of stealth (similar to how hidden blades out of stealth works); second, I don't think wall of fire will crit at all no matter what; and last only the first hit of chain lightning will crit, the rest of those hits will not crit no matter what the crit chance is. Unless they did something in this ring I don't see massive critical dot damage happening.

Amplified only showed for me if I loaded a save where previously I had already invested in the upgrade before. After respec, or if there wasn't a point in the upgrade already, it wouldn't be there any longer.

Ok so I made sure I had defending blade. I made a save and then swapped characters. I then loaded the save with defending blade and....nothing...

Still no amplified blade. What does amplified blade do?

Make you generate charges more quickly with other attacks (it seems twice as fast?) but expend all your charges in one SB swing.

They did add dynamic status icons, so I guess it's either there for a reason or something weird with the way the regeneration status works.

Whew, okay, good. I didn't read anything about that in the patch notes, but then again, my reading comprehension is off today.

I love seeing this because it's reminding me of arcane mages and how the good ones hit more than 2 buttons.
Good times. Good times.

Can someone tell me what the bug/s were previously with Deathblow? I've never used the ability till now (it's my replacement for Spinning Blades) and so far I'm pretty impressed it with, haven't noticed any major issues (outside of a possible UI bug after using it).

Also there's now a really cool effect to the Assassin's "Hidden Blades" ability: it now actually tracks targets  when you activate the ability, the thrown blade will actually bend and curve at angles to seek out it's intended target.  :)

Not sure to be perfectly honest.

If it strikes a second time, it drains all of your stamina and does some weird s*** with the Dance Of Death passive.
By weird s***, I mean if you wipe out more than one target it seems to refill your stamina but doesn't if it only kill one target for me at least.

That's cool to hear about Hidden Blades since I'd gotten into the habit of putting enemies to sleep first before throwing it.

So you're saying that it's still bugged, or that that was the previous bug before the patch?

Cause if you're saying the former and it's still bugged.... well s***  <_< Gotta get another respec amulet and swap to Throwing Blades, then.

Does the Barrier decay rate seem a bit quicker to anyone else? (Of course, now that the passives affect the barrier and not the caster, it's quite a bit more powerful.)

Whew, okay, good. I didn't read anything about that in the patch notes, but then again, my reading comprehension is off today.

Since when has anything ever been in the patch notes?

But yes, status icons will now show time remaining instead of just randomly blinking some period of time before an effect expires. It seems to work OK (definitely not perfect, but whatever).

It seems mana surge applys to all party members. Everytime barrior depletes, all of them have cost-free skill and freezing effect. I think it's buggy, but very useful.
