It is time! The end times.

For those of us who wish to discuss the current spoilers, here is a thread to do so!

For those who are attempting to keep up with the various fires going on at the moment, here is a threat down of current knowledge:

  • Patch 9 was released today, and within it there were various graphical assets that could be datamined.
  • The key discovery is a mesh, available in all races/genders of the Inquisitor missing their arm. You can view the image under this spoiler cut.

Spoiler

Non-Game Related Drama:

  • People are currently harassing developers over the arm thing.

Thoughts, ramblings?

Don't think we need spoiler notes here!

Yeah, it definitely does look more cut off than not. But I tend to be a bit more cautious with graphical assets, as they don't really tell the whole picture of what we're looking at. Just that the game needs that particular asset for something.

I do think it will probably be cut off, in my opinion. But I wouldn't start freaking out until we actually have something text based to go off of.

I see this as a Dark Ritual/Ultimate Sacrifice throwback. Solas will take the arm to save you if you have high approval/romanced him or if you had low approval, he takes your life. I read a tweet where one of the devs said if poor choices make the ending bad/sad it's not their problem.

Oh, and another thing I noticed is the fact that Solas has both a hooded and hoodless armor. Think that might be for difference cinematic scenes?

And wedding dress....I totally think that's more for the other romances.

Ummm......

Spoiler

Yeah, that was my thought:  the careful folding suggests "stump", not full-fx-arm.  I have to wonder whether the choice is directly related to the "Forever Marked" achievement.

On that note, does anyone know how "official" the trueachievements site is?  It's making me a little crazy that Solas is the icon for that particular one.

I only put the spoiler thing to be on the safe side. If we are all cool with just blabbing away I'm down.

Here are my thoughts on the matter.

Realistically, from what we know at the moment...

1) We have to choose between dying or living in eternal pain or losing our arm due to the Mark acting up.

2) We might get a wedding or a funeral for our Inquisitor, depending on our choices.

3) Since we are not going to see Skyhold again (Laidlaw confirms this in the Ashe interview), this will determine if the Inquisition organization still remains or is dissolved.

In the main game its hinted so many times that the hand will be removed eventually. Most of the baddies were saying it. The Duchess wants the hand, Xenon asks for it at the Black Emporium when you're done with it, Solas says the Mark will consume you and his magic helped slow it down. 2 years without him wold make it spread up her arm like a bad rash! Corypheus says she has to die to get the Mark, but since it's Solas' Orb, he knows how to remove it the right way so he shows up knowing you want questions answered about it, and I nthink Dagna says some stuff about the Mark too.

The removal of your hand does make a lot of sense though. There has to be a very good reason why Fen'Harel keeps all that power locked up in an Orb instead of letting it be a part of himself or his body. He knows that the power is too great for any one person to wield. He even says so at the start of the game to Cassandra.

The fact that it makes "take the arm" the good ending is a bit jarring.  Can't imagine how they're going to handle that.

"So... I'm no longer dying, and you have the anchor back.  Now how about taking the rest of me with you too?"

I don't know anything about that site, but I do know that I've seen the Solas icon being used for it elsewhere. Seems legitimate.

OH wow, can you just imagine the lore stories of Fen'Harel having the Inquisitor's hand in like 1000 years?!?!?

Wow, this is getting dark really, really fast.

Hmm.  90 points definitely flags it as the obvious finale.  Damnation.  My usual DLC mode is as slow as possible, peeking under every rock and trying to make it last.  Knowing that we'll probably only run into Solas at the very end is going to destroy me.

Well, we did complain that DAI was light hearted and too cheerful. So I am okay with Bioware taking a darker tone with this game.

Dafan0903 - We had a very productive chat. :D

My canon Inquisitor will probably chop his arm off willingly, get married to Josie, go on a honeymoon in the Anderfels (just like what Yvette was gossiping in the Winter Palace), retire to the Montilyet estate in Antiva and make love with her forever. :P

I think it was already hinted that we would see Solas near the end. I'm guessing he's there to save you from the Mark and/or take it back. "I suspect you have questions" probably means not only about his leaving, but about the Mark too and how to stop it before it consumes you (as Solas said in the prologue).

I'm cool with the story twisting to the dark side.

Ugh.....the wait is going to be even worse now.

reposting from PM:

Does anyone know what program the dataminers are using?  I used to be able to poke around dialogue trees and such using the early releases of DAITools, but they've focused the latest versions almost entirely on import/export of modding patches.

I believe they are using DAI modding tools to do so. Use the latest versions to get the results. Or you can go to Reddit to the Trespasser spoiler thread and PM the thread author there.

For female Lavellan who romanced Solas, it is definitely going to be dark. You romance an Elven god, he then dumped you,you had no one else for two years and when you end up meeting with him again, he will either cut your arms off or let the mark kill you...

This makes Thane-FemShep romance look like a sunny stroll.

Well, at least us Solasmancers can be happy that he probably takes some part of Lavellan along with him? Eh? Eh? :crying:

If given the choice, my Lavellan would probably keep the damn hand, though. She's way too happy to consider herself at least mage-like, so she'd have a hard time letting go. She always wanted to be Keeper, but ended up as a warrior instead. So yay, glowy hand! Dying because of glowy hand probably doesn't sound as awesome, though. I really have to see how all of this plays out.

I have a similar predicament where my Inquisitor is very much concerned with gaining power. I don't know if she'd be willing to cut off her arm and return to normal!

Hopefully there's an option to go off with Solas to ambiguous ends. But if not...I'll have to do a lot of pondering as to what she'd do in that situation.

Who knows if you romanced Solas, you get a "walking into the Eluvian option" where you and Solas enter into an Eluvian and Solas remains by your side, his magic nursing your hand and your Mark....

& in DA5, our protagonist will meet Solas and his daughter...and Solas will be talking about how his Vhenan is doing with restoring the Elvhen society...

You may never know

The devs said we as the players will start to question if we are a danger with our mark, so I have a feeling this choice to have it removed will be the choice made by players who want to sacrifice for the greater good, but survive and disband the Inquisition peacefully (as possibly seen in the trailer).

Haha, that's too bad for our poor Inquisitors. xD Mine's not just powerhungry, it's more like...she always wanted to be a mage and be a leader. It's like a very unfullfilled need of hers. So becoming the Inquisitor is actually really cool for her. She wouldn't want to die, but she's one of the kind that rather goes out with a legacy and freakishly cool powers than to fade away (ahaha...) and become an old, hot-headed and one-handed grandma that spouts nonsense about a romance with the Dread Wolf.

...well, as long as Solas doesn't amputate the wrong arm because he forgot which hand has the Anchor after two years, I'm sure we can survive the sads, even if it's just barely. xD

Am I the only one who doesn't see the ending as horribly depressing? I mean it provides a really good excuse for the Inqusitor to retire. For those of us who didn't romance Solas, they can run off and get married and do whatever without worrying about DA4. They have the freedom to live. And, perhaps curiously, it is upped my interest In doing the Solas romance. Because I can't imagine how intense him taking off your hand will be as lovers.
