Time to admit it here, I am so apprehensive about what may happen that I'm not going to play it straight out the gate. I don't want to ruin the rest of my vacation sobbing about what may happen.
I'm going to cling to this thread for information from you all and watch spoiler YouTubes to brace myself first before I play it. That's how much I am dreading what might happen to my LI. I just can't stand the thought of watching her heart get broken again.

We know people want to A) see him and
I think he was referring to Solas as a whole. Everyone wants different outcomes for the meeting, from punching to kissing, and probably both. We can't all be satisfied with what we get. And whatever we learn from the base convo with him will have us intrigued probably more by him and what it means for DA4.
They did say they're waiting for the discussions that pop up. If it was all terrible heartache and complaining they forsee, I doubt they'd be looking forward to that.

Sort of. To quote, he said, "You may not walk away completely satisfied, but you should walk away utterly intrigued."
Whatever that means.
Ah, yes. That's it, sorry! They said Solasmancers won't get closure somewhere else. I got it from Twitter, so it's likely that the tweet came from either Mike Laidlaw or Patrick Weekes. Maybe it was in that Game Informer article? It wasn't said on the panel where they showed the trailer, I know that. But I definitely remember the not getting closure being specifically said because that's the one thing I was hoping for with Trespasser so I was crushed!

Meaning he doesn't die or settle down for a white picket fence and 3.2 elf kids.
I'm expecting utter doom romance wise but haven't taken any of their tweets or interviews as romance specific.
Might just be me and my wonky brain though. xD
Edit: Besides, that's a spoiler if they did mean it that way, right? And they haven't dropped hints till now so I doubt they'd start. No romance has ever had closure in that case. Everyone keeps disappearing.
Take a deep breath and have hope, everyone.

I thought it was that Solas' story arc won't have closure since they still have plans for him?

I completely agree. I believe the "walk away intrigued" comment was referring to all fans of Solas, romancers or not. It probably means the Lavellans won't be settling down with him in a hut somewhere and that we'll be left with a lot of huge questions.
I'm still hoping that we can run away with him, if getting married and having "3.2 elf kids" (lol XD) isn't an option.

I'll try to see if I can find it!
What they said was Solas' story, or rather everything about what Solas is up to wouldn't get closure (or complete closure). They never said that about the romance.
The only thing they said specific about the romance/solasmancers is that "You may not walk away completely satisfied, but you should walk away utterly intrigued." stuff. Take from that what you will.
Be if good or bad, happy or sad I imagine the romance is going to get closure, they can't drag it out if they want a new protagonist for the next Dragon Age.

I don't want to get anyone's hopes up, but there's a teeny, tiny chance the romance could continue in DA4.
...it would just get very, very meta.
We take it for granted that our Inquisitor existed before the start of the game, yes? She had family, friends, goals, dreams: a life of her own within the DA universe. This changes drastically with the events at ToSA. Suddenly we- spirits from beyond the "veil" of our computer screens- assume complete control. Every choice, every word, every action is now entirely dictated by this outside spirit, who is literally anchored to her in game.
The Inquisitor, from a certain perspective, is an abomination. ^w^ We are the spirit possessing her.
What gives us that tiny sliver of hope is that this is precisely what Solas falls in love with. Not Lavellan's looks, or status, or backstory, or power.
"You have a rare and marvellous spirit... in another world."
It's possible, given the way Solas and Cole occasionally brush up against the fourth wall, that Solas recognizes the player as a separate entity interacting with the game world through Lavellan. Consider the way he interrogates her about the anchor's affects in the balcony scene.
"Has it changed you? Your mind, your morals, your… spirit?"
It's a potentially leading question. Is the person he's falling in love with the same woman that existed before the anchor? Or did the anchor -that connection to our overriding spirit - change her nature entirely? Does he love her... or us?
Again, this would get tricky and meta as hell- but if Solas does perceive the player as a distinct entity, then it's possible that he'll recognize the same curious, determined, compassionate spirit he fell in love with- "possessing" a new body in DA4.
I'm not getting my hopes up personally. Still, DAI sets up a conceptual foundation that would make it work, and Weekes could be just that crazy.

Did anyone ever figure out why it was stated that Solas was a female only romance for story reasons? Literally story reasons or just lack of time? Or did Weekes even say it to begin with?
That has always bugged the crap out of me.
Someone told me they suspected Weekes probably wrote the romance with consideration of time and resources. In an interview or panel or something he said when he pitched it someone said it would have to be for female elves, and he said that's what he wrote it for. I don't know if the gender is specific to story like elf reasons, though. It could be that's just what he wanted to write.

elf was because he is an elven god, female was never stated but they said he kept it to 1/8th of the possible changes because of lack of resources
I wonder if there's any more to it though -.-

*snip*
Wouldn't this also suggest that he would need to be a companion in the next game as well? I know they usually have one repeat companion, but if Solas' story isn't going to be wrapped up anytime soon (I recall they said something about possibly using him for several games) then I doubt he'll be a companion. ![]()
Also, I doubt I'd appreciate him being passed around like candy through my PCs. Especially if Lavellan isn't actually dead in these scenarios. ![]()

Yeah. To be honest I'd rather have a horribly sad ending than for him to move on to another protagonist just because the player moves on. It would kind of ruin the special feelings I get from Solas's romance in the first place.

^This. As fascinating as the idea of Solas actually falling for the player "possessing" Lavellan is, I'm not sure I could roll it. I'd like to think that he loved Lavellan for herself and her own marvelous spirit. And yes, the idea of Solas falling for the next DA protagonist after Lavellan does not sit well with me, even though it's still me controlling them.
The Solavellan romance is so beautiful and tragic and to have him just move on and fall for the next DA protagonist would kind of cheapen it. Especially after he's already sacrificed his own happiness with Lavellan and broke her heart in order to continue his mission. ![]()
EDIT: Also, I'm selfish and I want Solas to love Lavellan foreveeeeeeerrr! ![]()

So, I hear the DLC is up now for XBox One. Somebody play this and report back!
Meanwhile, I'll just be over here on PS4... waiting for the late afternoon/early evening EST store update.
It's just as well since I'm trapped at work all day anyway. It should hopefully be out by the time I get home.

Dammit, I didn't drink from the Well because Solas didn't want me to.
I hope my Lavellan can access this info regardless. ![]()
