As I was just saying to my friend, it's heartwrenching and sad but in a GOOD WAY.  It's almost hopeful, but depressing.  Like, how can it be both?  BUT IT CAN AND IS AND WEEKES HOW DID YOU DO IT???

Wow, it's beautiful.  Man, I'm Solavellan for life.  I don't give a crap if they can't get married or anything else.  If I wanted that, I would've chosen Cullen for her.  But a false god trying to fix what he screwed up, still in love with her, visiting her in dreams?  BE STILL MY HEART.

"Nuvenas mana helanin, dirth bellasa ma."
-> "Want/need distant past ???, speak (something with eternity?) your/my."
-> "You want (to know?) your distant past, speak about my/your eternity."

"Virthar ma. na din'an sahlin!"
-> "(something with way?) my. Your death now!"
-> "This is my way. Your death is now!"

It probably refers to the fact that the elves aren't immortal anymore and the Inquisitor replies with that they are on their own way and that the spirit champion will die now? It's the best guess that I have. Is her Inquisitor even elven? Gosh, I have no idea. xD

so uh what's the consensus?

Solas evil or naw?

Or possibly going evil ... or crazy ... or both

Trying to do the right thing the wrong way and losing it because of that. He thinks no one but him can make it right, that he will most likely die and it's his punishment. When a friendly Inquisitor says they will show him he's wrong, he says he will treasure that moment. It's a silent cry for help. He wants to stop himself but he can't do it alone.

I don't think he wants to stop himself. He had years to think about this. Rather, I think he hopes the Inquisitor is able to come up with a solution where modern Thedas does not have to be doomed. He does not want to doom Thedas, but he thinks it's the only way to reach his goals. If Inky finds a way for that to be possible WITHOUT having to sacrifice Thedas, then he'd be happy about it. He just doesn't think it is possible.

Yea that's basically what I think is happening

He's definitely "hardened his heart" so badly that he's lost the ability to possess a full, properly working conscience

I'm not sure if he's savable though. what will probably happen is that he'll die, realize he was wrong during his last breath, reference to lavellan and their undying love, die dramatically, and then the DA:4 protagonist will win the day.

Pretty disappointing actually. I can't see a way that he can be redeemed (without cheapening the story they've already started)

Years yes, but I think he never thought a human/dwarf/qunari or romanced elf could change his heart. If he does this, they die too, but his pride won't let him stop himself after coming so far. And as you said, he hopes the Inquisitor can do it for him without death. He can't and he won't himself but he doesn't want to kill them either.

The fate of the ancient elvhen makes me sadder the more I see and read about it. Damn, no wonder solas would sacrifice everything for what could have been. If only that apple hadn't been rotten at its core.

Well honestly, he went a bit more hardcore in the end than I expected.  I figured he would try to awaken the "gods"/tear down the Veil and let the consequences fall where they may, but he seems to implicitly know this will cause the current world to be destroyed.  That's a bit...on another level entirely.  Outside of meta-gaming DA4, I don't see how our new protagonist can not want to murderknife him on sight, ya know?

If he wasn't redeemable the option wouldn't have been given. Like all DA games, we will have to make a choice in DA4. Hopefully our new hero is ok with saving him and he hasn't sent them into a mad revenge from killing a loved one or something.

Yea i wasn't predicting him to end up being a sociopath (as he evidently is) at all. The amount of disconnect he has to be able to think that the lives of the whole world is worth "what was" must be immense.

I thought better of him.

he'd probably just say "thank you" to me like he did when my Lavellan said that. that little cheeky ****

So what's with the purple smoke I keep seeing at the beginning part where you're talking to everyone? Looks like maybe a spy is following me?

What I mean is he can't be saved (from doing horrible things). His opinion could be changed, sure, but his plan is already too far deep. I almost feel like he has placed an obligation on himself to carry it through no matter the consequences. makes me sad just thinking about it ;-;

Soooo, I tweeted Patrick Weekes asking him if Solasmancers will get closure in future games and why our choice of them having sex was taken away... And he just favorited it...
I'm super confused now.

I don't get the impression that he's evil. But that he's willing to make the "tough" choices to fix his mistakes, even though that choice is only going to "benefit" elves. LOL

He feels he has no other choice, but there is ALWAYS a choice. Lavellan must find a way to show him there are other options to save the Elves. He must realize we must move toward progress and not the nostalgia of the past!

That right here is the part that has me so excited about it.

It'll be like Loghain again I bet, but with a far more dangerous person at the helm.

But I'd like an answer on why the took away our choice. Da4 not even green lit so taking this as we will get closure in the future and a love scene isn't really... I don't know. I'm just confused.

You know what makes me really sad, though? He put the elven gods away because they killed Mythal, the one being that protected her people. Yet here we have Lavellan, who is the Inquisitor and also protects her people (well, more or less, it depends on how you play her) yet he doesn't even grant her the opportunity to stay with him. Sure, Solas, go ahead and put that elven goddess above your one true love.

I don't think he's evil at all. He has great morals (mostly) and puts other people's best interests at heart (only the elves apparently) and has the capacity to love.

Good people can do horrible things if the circumstances are right. I feel like he has such an amazing personality. It would be horrible to see it be wasted.

Games take a while to make either way. DAO was in 2009, DA2 in 2011 and DAI in 2014. They have 3/4 years maybe more now to get ready if it's finally ready to be produced.

I feel he emboddies the "healer has the bloodiest hands" saying we got in the main game. Or at least, he believes himself to be. so caught up in his own mistake he sees no redeeming quality to the thousands years of history and just... people living their lives, that have happened since his rebellion ended up costing the elvhen everything.

Oh! Not Solas related, but I got a mention from Cullen about clan Lavellan being wiped out. Nothing major, but nice to see that finally acknowledged.

I want Weekes to answer us on this!  But it does make Solas seem even more morally focused and considerate that he wouldn't sleep with her unless she knew the truth :3

I would hardly call him a sociopath. If he was he wouldn't be able to love Lavellan. He wouldn't feel remorse for what he's done or what he's about to do and wouldn't be able to experience empathy. Her certainly wouldn't care about the suffering of others, which he does.

What I get from Solas is that he thinks suffering is worse than death. He doesn't like to see people suffer from poverty, slavery, the aftermath of the Breach, etc. However, he believes that his people are suffering because of what they are in the world they're in now. So if he believes suffering to be worth than death, then I can see why he would think ending suffering over sparing lives is better. That doesn't make his views right. I don't agree with them. I think the Inquisitor or whoever needs to do all they can to make him see that he's wrong, but that's just how I think he measures things.

I'd like it confirmed (to be ambiguous, haha) because *I* don't think it states they never had sex.  I took it to mean he never had sex with her while faking who he was, emotionally and spiritually.  It was really only a name and overall motive that he withheld - and the motive isn't even related to their romance, so...  (Also, I like that we found out that Solas is his real name.)
